If lucknow was sophiscated. Mumbai won my heart ..Gladys was so loving .. they were all so simple n the east indian accent n the little laughters of Gladys..❤was so pure
She is so cute... I see 'cooking with grannies' show from Italy and something like that from Japan. At their age, they are still passionate and proud about their culinary heritage and with their bent backs slowly do what they still love... It makes a lovely heartening watch. Maybe it will be a good theme for a series in India too !
Moraes aunty is so adorable, cute, very smart, and OMG her humor, its next level....from her intro to the end of the recipe...I enjoyed watching her cook...love that tone and dialect she speaks. Pure Joy ..❤❤
Hi Aditya, I bring you warm greetings from Australia. I have watched all your lost recipes episodes. I am proud to be an East Indian. My Mum comes from the same village of Gorai as aunty Moraes. I have spent all my childhood vacations there. Thank you for offering the world genuine recipes, now considered lost, though most of us have the East Indian cook books which we follow. Bless your commitment.
As an East-Indian, I still keep my traditions alive. You can also see other lost recipes on our channel and also world recipes :) Greetings from England. Have a great day everyone!
Wonderful video tracing in detail, the history of the East Indians of Bombay, ( how they their community got to be known as East Indians)their culinary traditions so well explained by Mr. Swamy , the ancient clay pot which remains a precious cooking appliance in East Indian kitchens, as it doubles up as a rustic oven and is acknowledged as the predecessor to the modern ovens. The rice pudding , the bread made of rice and the fish and vegetable curry made in kanji water with a fiery green chilli masala ,are dishes which should remain the pride of East Indian cuisine. A big salute to Aditya for the sincere interest and considerable effort he has taken to track down housewives , who still make the flavourful East Indian dishes with such flair and pride like Mrs Henriques and her daughter Switsy. Also , this video gave us a glimpse of the fabulous heritage homes of the East Indian community Thank you.
Thank you for sharing. We are third generation Indian in South Africa. History books also tell us about Dutch East India Company settling in South Africa. The knowledge, information and resources you are sharing is important and valuable to those who enjoy History without involving politics, simply humanity. Great job. @chefaadityabal3838 Thank you for delving into our East Indian Culture and Food. As the original Mumbai sons of the soil, our story often goes untold, and with many from our community (like myself) having moved away from Mumbai and its Gaothans, shows like yours are a sort of time capsule and showcase for all. Keep up the good work.
Great episode as always, love how you tell us about the history. She looks like a sri Lankan grandma. Guess thats coz Sri Lanka was also invaded by the Dutch, Portuguese n British.
So nice to see the culture& lost recipes of the west coast where the East Indian / koli communities reside. Plz show more such especially the Konkan recipes.

Hi Aditya..the East Indian dish made with Bombay duck in an Earthen clay khapri/pot the dish is called Khapola (not sure if the spelling is correct) ..This is one of the EI lost recipes..
The very first recipe shown of Rice flour (Leteri) is also cooked in Kokan Region as Shewale or Ras shevaya which is severed with coconut milk and jaggery.
The East Indian aunties used to fill the masala into dark brown beer bottles to preserve the masalas.. nowadays they fill in different bottles and grind it in the masala chakkis as the traditional pounders are scarce
Thanks bro.....how about an East Indian Restaurant in Mumbai....work on it...I believe you would suceed....Take your time but give it a thought. Kudos Amigos.
Aditya in Goa we use to make rice ka roti with fresh cocount and it was cooked on the Tava with leaves it would taste so delicious And also they make same thing in the handi but sweet and it would cm out as a cake
This Recipe is wonderful and tasty, we have often made it at home. However this Recipe is still well scripted the Eastindian cookery book. Pudim de Letria
Why not people will stay loyal to East India Company, it was giving better treatment & equally to all people than India's religion, Varna & Caste based situations?
*The dish's common English name, "kanji or Congee" is derived from the Tamil word "கஞ்சி" (kañci).* Congee (/ˈkɒndʒiː/, derived from Tamil கஞ்சி [kaɲdʑi]) is a form of savoury rice porridge made by boiling rice in a large amount of water until the rice softens.
Agri and Koli communities are originally from Mumbai and theses Hindu communities which got converted to Catholicism became known as East Indian. They share the same ethnic origin and culture
