There will never be another higgins that man could do shots that no other snooker players could do he was unreal god rest you alex
could. past tense. plenty of players today that can, but they just arent as exciting or eventful.
why the ugly cuts?
ThalesPo I know. No idea why cuts from a vhs tape.
Alex was the man who put snooker on the map , for Jimmy , and of course today, Ronnie O Sullivan.
100%.
I think they hire professional coughers to be in the audience
seriously, what's with all the coughing? maybe they were all smoking, as it was the '80s?
shedasaurus most of them probably smoked Benson & hedges or embassy the main sponsors back then of the masters and the world championships......cough...wheeze.
Simon John Hinton
It's the farts you have to listen out for!
This tournament should have been sponsored by Benylin.
Smoking
Alex higgins was the best middle pocket potter that the game has ever seen. And the way he could pot them really hard with top or bottem side on the cue ball, and that shot is so hard to do. If there was a hard pot to be made and your life depended on it alex higgins would be the man to make that pot. He has did shots that will never ever be seen again.
Yeah he was the king of the isolated flash shot but his positional play was not the best. It’s the reason why he only ever made 86 centuries in his whole career when some players have made more than that in one season these days
Hard to believe nobody noticed Higgins' foul at about 58:46 I'm not surprised that Higgins didn't call it, but you'd think the referee or the commentators or even a spectator might have.
Higgins always called his fouls.
Higgins does what he wants to. And in snooker he always does the right thing
@@aodhryan Obviously based upon this he didn't. As a pro he must have known what he'd done. He was waiting for the referee to call it and when he didn't he took the gift.
Probably too drunk as usual to notice 🤷♂️.
Like when Alex pretended not to hear Cliff Thorburn nominate the green ball in their memorable match.
No one is saying Alex is a cheat, but he's not averse to bending the rules when it suits him.
Parrot was a great player underestimated
Should've got to another masters final blew it against Mike hallett
love these rare alex vids . really great
Hey this is a classic but is that Dickie Davis the commentator from my yesteryear? He now reminds me of Benny Hill with a moustache, what with the dated video and now showing my age.
Alex Higgins - the man who created the landscape for future players to get rich. The best ever.
Your not wrong there, none can entertain like him either
Absoulute rubbish, RAY REARDON 6 TIMES SNOOKER CHAMPION OPENED THE DOORS OF SNOOKER&STEVE DAVIS&JIMMY WHITE, HIGGINS WAS A COCAINE USER&DRUNK
Created the landscape, Yes but the best ever,no way,Ronnie is without a doubt the best there has ever been
@@davidmellish3295 You either forget or don’t know how Stephen Hendry was. No one will ever dominate like him, even Ronnie. E.g. Ronnie has just 3 more ranking titles than Hendry even with twice as many available per season. If Hendry had that many available he would easily have got to 50 ranking titles in 10 years, rather than Ronnies 36 in a 30 year career.
@John Mc OF COURSE no one will ever dominate like him,the standard is far too high for any player to dominate in today's game. A fact which Hendry freely admits,if he was playing at his best in today's game, yes he would have won a lot but no way would he have ruled like he did in the 90s. He was brilliant and so were others but the general standard was miles away from what it is now.
It's not me that's forgotten who Hendry was,it just so happens that everyone in the game, pundits, players, commentators, Jimmy,Dennis,J.V etc etc all say that Ronnie's the best ever,Hendry always says it,the only person who says that Hendry's the best ever is Ronnie,as after all nobody's going to vote for themselves in public.
I think you'll find, you're in the minority here mate, but that's fine, you're perfectly entitled to your opinion
Sir Higgins is, was and will be the best to my mind.
The greatest with White.

Ah, the days of smoking indoors ... and the audience passive smoking and choking by the sounds of it! LOL
Hell many of those people were Irish and it is well known that Irish people smoke a lot.
@Neil Mcintosh "Passive smoking is the inhalation of smoke, called second-hand smoke, or environmental tobacco smoke, by persons other than the intended "active" smoker. It occurs when tobacco smoke permeates any environment, causing its inhalation by people within that environment." Passive smoking doesn't exist huh?
Who knew John Harrot or Pohn Jarrot was such a good snooker player? 🤔
Parrots before he spoke continual utter bollocks as a pundit.
I did not realize that Dennis Taylor was in the commentary box so early in his career.
Thinking the same thing, his style of commentating is still the very same, this match could have been last week, if you were just listening to it 😅😅👍
@michael holson. Its becouse taylor knew he couldnt compete with the top players during the 70s and 80s so he jumpend upstairs to commentate lol. Yes he did win the world title in 85 but thats about all he did. 10 times out of 9 steve davis would beat him easy and should have potted that easy black he famously missesd to win it, but he bottled it.
🎱 JP looks like he’s in Beatles tribute band!!🥊😂🎼x
Nothing quite says glamour like the Lada brand name. Who could forget top quality cars like the Riva and Niva? Put together by craftsmen using the finest materials.
The worst player of the tournament has to drive a Lada car for the rest of the season.
That is the reason why this event was finally stopped in the year 1992.
The Snooker players could no longer endure the stress and the great brutality inflicted on the losers of the tournament.
Haha yes, driving a Lada would certainly be a fitting punishment. On the plus side, they wouldn’t have to go to the gym. Driving a Lada is like working out with heavy weights.
Aye, nearly a classy as Cazoo😂
Hurricane your SIMPLY THEE BEST Alex Hurricane Higgins made snooker look so easy what a fantastic player Alex hurricane Higgins was my favourite player and Snooker never will be the same with out Alex Hurricane Higgins you are THEE people's CHAMPION ALEX HURRICANE HIGGINS R I P ALEX HURRICANE HIGGINS
The chance to win a Lada whilst developing lung cancer. What a prize 🙈😩
Yeah lada s were the only new car that wouldn't pass an mot lol, I know a car doesn't need one when new, but somewhere they tested one and it failed.
5:59 does anyone think he played that into the jaws for those two reds, because i thought he did by the confidence he was walking after the shot, does anybody else agree?
ofc lol...You really think Alex Higgins accidentally put top spin in that shot? Dude he's a genius he's not your average pub player
The Lada Classic - January 1984, Spectrum Arena, Warrington, Cheshire
In his interview he sounds like a future champion. Not sure how old he was here, but he knew what he was doing from an early age.
Just 19
This was the only classic you could put up with the name lada ,cars were shocking i heard some new ones didnt pass mots 😂
It’s a good job Alex was a great potter, because his positional play wasn’t great.
That table was as slow as a week in the jail.
Slow as molasses in wintertime...
Slow as trickle down economics 😂
As slow as a video tape ejecting in the 80’s.
oh my god the coughing its like a hospital and a TB epidemic
By he sounds of the crowd they gave out 40 benson & hedges with every ticket.
Imagine the joys of winning a lada... classic... wonder how it feels... lol
Just forget the name and take the money!
Probably much better than riding in a Lada 😂
The 4D shoot at 37:17
Dennis Taylor commentating when he was 12
RIP Alex.. you were simply beautiful. ❤
Not as beautifull as you caz, but a great man and very misunderstood.
@@mickharrison9004 Aww thanks! Yes, a great man, sorely missed. ❤
@@carolineg1872 🌹♥️🌹👍
spot on brilliant he was rip alex
What a shite car the lada was, in the end even brand new ones couldn't pass mot s 😂
Brand new cars don't need an MOT, ya muppet.
Parrot was and is such a gentleman, Higgins was always a jerk, and is clearly a has been here.
ysgol3 if you say so , moron
ysgo you're the jerk
@@paulhiggins8524 correct , a total knobhead
Never been able to enjoy John Parrot playing, he’s like his generations Murphy, something inherently boring even though they’re both high quality players. Very dull all rounder.
Parrot was a percentage player, what did you expect !!
Anyone notice Alex changed to a one piece cue for the evening session?
All that time just to put the white ball in the pocket?
What year was this?
What a cheat Higgins fouled the red, ref didn't even say anything.
You prick is that the only thing u see?
Craig Stevenson whereas you are very dull and a homosexual
Tavy@ every time i watch an alex higgins video i have to laugh some times at the way the referees have to basicly run around the table to keep up with alex lol the other day alex was about to pot a red and he had to wait about 6 seconds till the referee placed the blue again. Am sure alex sank the red as the ref had just put it on the spot? It was the way the ref had coverd alex camera view leaning over to place the blue. The man is just great to watch. When hes form he pots balls as if hes on a 6ft table. Long and short pots, safety play the lot. (goat) rip alex
Have you got footage of the Hendrey v Gary Wilkson at the assembly rooms derby circa 1990
wow the foul was so blatant too
As clear as day ha
Itv after the ten o clock news those were the days
I wonder how many Ladas were sacrificed for this tournament?
Not sure how old he is in this video, but he looks no older than 15.
Think he was 9
1984
John Harrop lol
Audience sounds like a doctors surgery in mid winter
Yes John all them smokers
He probably sold the larda for a couple of quid 💷 seen as he never drove
Thanks for the upload, love the snooker.
Parrot looks so you g back then. Alex always entertaining to watch.
I wonder if that lada still has mot.
Griffith, parrot.Thorburn, Taylor, no wonder Higgins lost to these guys utterly boring
Harrot :)
When was this
andrew davis : 1984, according to the intermissions during this match ... Greetings from Antwerpen, Belgium 😉👍
Some crazy safety choices by higgins
lets be honest , parrot couldnt carry alexs cue
Let's be honest, Parrot beat Higgins here, which makes your salty comment look fucking ridiculous.
Parrot won the match so obviously he could
@@allanhall7863 even the sun shines on a dog's arse some days ,Alex was a genius Parrott was a bore tbh
@@thespursfan7564 so they were all bores apart from Higgins then?
@@allanhall7863 fr me bar Jimmy white ,pretty much ,Doug mount joy Terry Griffith Steve Davis John Parrott ,I'd actually put Kirk Stevens in with Jimmy and Alex ,but the rest were a bre fest ,and I've been playing the game a very long time
John parrot looks like one of the Beatles lol
No. He look like mr bean. Watch him closely
And talks like one.
John parrot has defo got some eyebrows on him
I think the prize for a 147 was a lada car ?
Dickie Davies in his native region (Granada)
How sweet did JP hit the ball.
A woman in the audience knew it was going to be a shit night when her and Higgins got home.
You can sing it. Alex probably headed for an 8 day bender directly after this and then home for carnage.
Nesse dia o Alex estava muito MAL na defesa.
Mas valeu
What year was this please?
53:56 massive fluke lol
What year
ชอบครับ
The guys who are commenting about the foul that Akex knew or he cheated need to get a life people like u will always have negative perceptions regarding someone great. Higgins is a legend period.
Sikander Grt Khan He was a wanker pal.Threatening to have Dennis Taylor shot, head butting a tournament director.Yeah,What a great man...
Higgins was not great, he just had an unusual talent for playing snooker.
@@michaels8386 higgins is one of the greats who made snooker what it is today you only have to listen to what the other players say about him to know what a legend he was
@@neilgilder7065 He was no doubt a great player but that makes it even worse. He definetely fouled that shot which could have changed the match strange one.
ROFL @58:44... I guess in the 80's they didn't own up to fouling. Cheating turd
Jimmy White does on a regular basis though. Fair Player he is
Wow! Parrot is very handsome so much.
Alex the Great
Great video mate
Have you anything on tony knowles ?
I think he drove a car once with no MOT
First frame, Ray Edmonds; “Alex looking really sharp here, he hasn’t missed a single pot he’s gone for so far” Next shot he misses easy blue! Friggin idiot commentators!!! And the worse thing is that in the 35 years since they still haven’t learnt...
Ray Edmonds was a far better commentator than most today. To be fair he was correct, Alex hadn’t missed a pot and his next stroke was over stretching ridiculously... look at the angle his cue arm is at! Not saying he should have used the rest necessarily because he was remarkable at reaching balls but it was no gimme.
Blimey...watching this without looking at the score line I thought Alex was stomping him!
Not only beautiful but in terms of nature as well.. 💕
