Riot 207 I love drummers like Carter Beauford, but it's not always necessary. You can be "next level" without trying to do too much. This drummer is phenomenal. He's technically sound. He knows when to throw in fills and when to keep it simple. He knows when to keep it clean, and he knows when to open it up. His playing gives the songs texture. For instance, at 25:52, 21:33, 22:42, 4:27, and 19:45. He reminds me of the drummer from Rumspringa. If you haven't, you should check out their live version of "Shake Em Loose Tonight." I think you'll see what I mean. That video of Rumspringa, like this video, showcases a drummer who really has an ear for music and knows how to shape a song without overpowering it.
Thank you for your recommendation, I'll be sure to check him out. I personally don't like the electronic kit he plays during this session. I feel Asgier sounds so much better acoustic than with full band. I just don't feel that Carter Beauford is a Neil Peart(Rush) or a Keith Moon(The Who) and will never be, especially if he stays to the electric drum bull crap.. (I am extremely against that type of drum style, I find it sounds cheap.)
The host was so sweet and genuinely seemed interested in them! That's always great to see - someone who has taken the time to do their research. Especially considering he is quite shy, so she was able to guide their interview sessions well! :)
It might our water is great! Hehe I think it's about that how big the music scene here in Iceland is for such a small country, the musicians here all know each other and you have to have a different sound from each other and that maybe pushes them to find a different sound, idk, it's just a thought!
I saw them this weekend when they opened for Hozier at the Orphium .....they did amazing. I have found another band that I love and will play on repeat!!!!
Thank you KEXP for the live-stream of this performance! Technology is great, I was watching this performance live from the other end of the world (in Indonesia) on the palm of my hand through my iPod touch. I would love to see him live one day though! :)
saw them live by accident in Copenhagen on a weekly summer event called Friday rock. unbelievable and I am hooked. I'm south african and live in London. keep up the great work and would love to see them live again - hopefully in Iceland👌
LOVE LOVE LOVE this album and this was a gorgeous performance...Juli (sp.) never gets quite enough credit though...he's been here since the very beginning and seems to contribute a LOT...
I find it pretty unbelievable that this doesn't even have 500k views in 10 years. Waiting for Ásgeir to blow up and this video getting millions of views.
Love all your work. The funny thing is when you sing home (one of my Favorites) I think of pictures of Iceland! Not bad! Ontario, Canada An Icelander Ef aðeins í anda.
Sometimes I don't even understand how I don't find out about these bands sooner. This is pretty good and the interview is so awkward in the best way :)

hahahaah kexp interviews are always a bit awkward. don't know why... check the one for Bomba Estereo and the one for Kimbra...
Mário Longhi I wonder each time, how all these guys can sound so beautiful: the mix is always very precise, you can listen to anybody who you interested in. Just great work of hosts, sound and video engineers... just amazing. =)
Does anybody know what the deal is with their outfits? Is this sort of Appalachian American-style popular in Iceland? Is it part of their image for this musical project? Coming from Texas, I see the camouflage, flannel, and trucker hats in a certain sense and did not expect to see it here with these musicians! Totally curious. Great music!
just got back from Iceland, totally in vogue, beards a must, long eylashes to keep your eyes from freezing and trucker hats under hoods totally on trend.
yeb the beard thing has been going on here for some time now, i am guilty as well, but mainly because is use it as an excuse to not shave.. believe me when i say that there clothes are not part of an image, this is music for the sake of music, there is no such thing as an pre fabricated image
If the internet did something good, it was giving the world KEXP
Life goal: be as happy as that drummer.
Hard out .hes a classic
Well he has a Willie Nelson Tshirt on, so we know from where does his happyness come from... :-D
Cheryl Waters is ALWAYS the consummate professional! Such a great interviewer! She is a walking music encyclopedia!
Humble guy, amazing music.
That drummer is intense, love it!
William Patino lol you must be trolling...

+William Patino he's probably high. Explains his Willie Nelson t-shirt.
+William Patino His name is Helgi Svavar, he´s one of the best drummers in Iceland.
It's cute, he's so shy :)
They are so talented, can't stop listening to their stuff !
+Enola L. they are not shy, they are awkward.
@@martinknap8466 Well, I would prefer being awkward over being a mean asshole (like you) any time :)
@@martinknap8466 just like me fr

I figured it was because you have to have some way of dealing with life when you live in darkness for half the year...
Seriously though. Asgeir. Kaleo. Of Monsters and Men. It's amazing.
Methane gas is in the water
Love the host Cheryl! She is the best host ever :) and Asgeir is amazing.

Watching in 2019 and still love the music. Great performance and host.
This is a lovely set. I had the pleasure of seeing Ásgeir live three times as Hozier's opener and was very impressed. Thanks for this, KEXP!
Talented, sweet and handsome.
And a great host.
Ásgeir is phenomenal. Home is phenomenal.

It would be absolutely incredible to see this band with brass and orchestral sections like they talk about during the interview
Jesus this is amazing....love the deep expressions of voice and synthesized beats
I was in Iceland once, and believe me, you can feel this kind of music in the air.
The first song, EARGASM.

KEXP! Love you, people radio!
Music from island......

wow. such a complex sound. i love this!
This is my first time hearing this in english and I think it is just a totally different dimension almost like 2 different bands.
I would love to hear him collaborate with Sóley
this is amazing ...
I just learned how heinously wrong I've been pronouncing his name this whole time. Sorry man. This music resonates hard, all of it. So much talent!
Great Artist; Band & Music.....
Amazing. I love it
I mean that in the nicest way possible, truly...
Amazing live performance! 🔥
how good is the harmonizing by the back up singer!!
You're amazing Asgeir
Only just discovered Ásgeir's beautiful music, why didn't I find it sooner?
I should have gone to his concert that was held last year in Seoul. I wanna listen his music in front of him.
내한한적이 있나요?!
+Hs Kim 작년 1월 17일에 현대카드 5 nights에서 공연했어요 (루디멘탈이 급 취소해서 4 nights가 되긴 했지만..).
Powerful music, very intense. Love the instrumental :)
"Going home" ending is amazing
Love Asgeir, so excellent and love Iceland of course !!!!!

Mário Longhi Wow, so the Kimbra was here on KEXP too? That's great, have to check her performance, thanks. =)
Sergey Shidlovsky yes, just search "kimbra full performance kexp". as per usual, she was amazing live (better than studio version!)

Oh it was funny when Cheryl said she 'heard about' Iceland Airwaves and smiled ^_^
Chills
The drummer at 4:43 reminds me of some kind of crazed percussion pirate
Harmonies remind me of State Radio/Dispatch
Yeah
Wonderful
Hey Cisco!
I can't believe i was sleepin on him. 🤦🏿♂️
Does anyone knows where can I buy his shirt?
❤👌
That drummer's beard is dope
I like the Icelandic versions better.
