  • Lots of stuff wrapped up this month for this update. The heater for the garage is finally installed and sealed up, ballast has been laid in for the newest yard module section, and prep work is done for further scenery. Inside a the bench, I got a lot of new cars wrapped up, and even a new locomotive!

Mainline Hobby Supply in Blue Ridge Summit is a very good hobby shop, and if you are in Ohio it may even be on your route to Timonium. That show is heaven for model railroaders. Thanks for the videos. They've been just what I needed to get back into my N scale trains after a neighbor's fire caused enough smoke and water damage that I had to scrap my 19x20 N scale layout.

Mainline is really the only good shop left in PA. Dan they have one long wall of all detail parts you can think of.
About an hour or so away is White Rose in York, Pa. They are pretty decent too. Large selection of cars and power.

Wow! That's a huge amount of work you put into those cars and locos but it really paid off. They look terrific. The W&LE units look super-realistic with the hand painted yellow faded scripts and stripes. You've got so much patience and skill to complete that work to perfection - such inspirational work. Thanks so much for sharing!

Greetings from Clarksville, TN. If anyone can 'fix' that Dash-9, it's you.
Unfortunately, people who aren't even model railroaders buy up all of the models when they're released just to resell them online for an outrageous price gouge.
    Awesome video as always. 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃

Add a dehumidifier to your train room and it will also help with your shrinking issue.

Mr Dan, In regards to saving cash on ballast. Harbor freight sells 20lb boxes of crush walnut shells under blasting media for 25 bucks. It’s same material and grade as woodland scenics only thing is it’s brown. There has to be a way to color match it or dye it.

Dan, What brand of cars and locomotives offers the best scale detail and quality? I have no room anymore for a layout but am considering small dioramas.
Your weathering is incredible and only looks even more realistic when you zoom in on it. Amazing!

That former AC/WC SD40 shell looked like a former MILW unit
    and road number (SD40-2). I
believe it to be a U.S. built unit!
    Great work on your modeling!
Incidentally, the stenciling of the lt. wt./ld. pmt. looked to be
from a 33,000 gal TP type tank
car, used for Anhydrous Ammonia or LPG service. Great
    looking models!

Those covered bakey power or soda hoppers produce a lot of blow back on cars coupled to them. Especially black tankers or carbon black cars. Its a cool looking affect.

great work as always Dan. I have done a model of that SD40 ex Algoma Central painted in Wisconsin Central as 6001. Like you it had to do a lot of mods but looks like you have done more as on the loco i modeled all the roof fans were the same, no rear ditch lights and it had snow shields on both sides over the air intakes.

Do you check to make sure all your locos have working DCC and sound decoders at the show? I have a friend who bought a nice loco that was a bust once he got it on his layout….😡

I have what I think a basic coupler question. I'm converting some of my older Athearn rolling stock to Kadee couplers. I just bought one of those Kadee coupler height gauges and it seems that quite often the problem is "coupler droop". Rather than put a washer on the bolster it seems to me that a shim under the shank would help right at the problem area. Am I wrong ? Does anyone produce such tiny little shims ? The thickness of the washers looks great, but I of course I need straight and not circles.

Could you do a video on how to make gondolas sag? I tried it once on an el-cheapo car and totally wrecked it.
Edit: doh! Unpaused the video, watched five more seconds and you said you've already made it. Thanks! That's completely awesome! 😁

Nice work on the 5413. One nit-pick though. The rear class lights were never blanked. Just about every rear end photo I’ve seen of this unit show the rear class lights in place. Looks good otherwise.

Such a bummer on that Scale Trains BNSF unit. Too bad you didn’t film an unboxing video and let the choice words fly. 😉 Another show to put on your list is the Springfield Mass show. Good to see the room is now climate controlled and we can see those sexy legs. LOL! Great video Dan and looking forward to the upcoming videos!
