what's the difference between a size 4 (#4 if you will) and 4/0? New fly tier here. Having trouble knowing what to order etc. Also knowing how big of a streamer I can tie for my 5wt. Thanks! Great vids!!
Fly Fish Food ok. That’s what I was thinking. I have ordered size 8 before and thought they were gonna be bigger. This stuff is so addictive haha! We have two stores locally but they carry minimal supplies. Learning a lot from your vids and site.
I just finished watching the Mongrel Meat video. Thanks Cheech for another KILLER STREAMER! Here's a question for you. I prefer to fish un-weighted streamers with a Streamer Express line. Instead of using the lead barbell eyes and lead wire wraps, what do you think of leaving both out and using one of the clear Flymen Fishing Co. Fish-Masks?
Thanks, we do a trip to the Taylor River in Colorado every summer and I started chucking streamers a couple years ago over there. Last summer I landed a three lb. rainbow on a streamer. You can bet this fly will see some action this summer.
In my opinion that UV Spirit River schlappen sucks. I've bought several packs now and I always seem to get tons of unusable shitty feathers. I actually like the Wapsi schlappen better. It might not be labeled as "UV" but I highly doubt a trout takes a predatory strike at a streamer because the fly had some bright feathers on it.
AJ, I really think it just depends on what you are doing with the Schlappen. If you are tying it in for tails on larger flies, it's not as good as some of the other stuff. If you are wrapping it on a fly like this one, it works great. I have gone through many packs of it in the last few months, and it all seems fine to me. One thing I realized is that not all of the feathers "look" like they will be good, but they actually get the job done just fine once you start wrapping them on hooks.
Clark? who is this Clark fellow? I ONLY KNOW CHEECH!
This looks great to me.
I will try this to catch some pike here in The Netherlands.
Great vid,..thanks and tight lines!
The bass in Austin Texas love it! Thanks for the tutorial... Tight Lines

Been waiting for this. Looks great! Thanks

hook size would go (small to large) 4, 2, 1, 1/0, 2/0, 3/0, 4/0... A 4/0 hook is huge... Usually used for pike/musky and some bass stuff.

Sick pattern guys!

A+ .Thank you so much for posting .
Any reason to have gone away from tear mender on these dubbing heads?
If I'm coating the while head, I'll do it with UV resin. If I'm only sticking eyes to the sides I'll use tear mender.
