Might be my favourite streamer from you Cheech!

Grey fox maybe and a coyote tail would probably work as well

Hi Cheech, man I love your streamers, and that one is a mouthful! Great post on the website too! I have a whole silver fox tail, awesome material. I thought yours may be a marble fox but I searched it and the color is the same but the markings are distributed differently. I believe those are crossbred, but who cares, it's still great material and made some interesting reading. You lucked out in finding that mutation that blends perfectly with that 4B saddle. I should've jumped on the January post anouncing the new hackles, Whiting 4B is new to me. Have you looked at the daiichi 1870 larval hook yet that I mentioned on the stonefly pattern you tied on the 1730? Thanks Cheech, you're one of the best. 👍

      Thanks Joe.
Regarding the 1870 hook, we sell it, but there's something about the shape vs. the hook gap that kind of weirds me out a bit... Maybe I'll have to fish it to see.

Fly Fish Food Thanks Cheech and I agree about the gap however I think the shape (York bend) is graceful. I asked because a tyer I know designed an upside-down streamer and used the 1770 for it. That hook better suited his purpose & design and I think is a near perfect bend back hook although I've never tried any of them. There's a 3X difference in wire gauge between the two hooks also, which I think would make the heavier 1870 a better choice for a streamer and bigger fish. I know Larry Tullis uses the 1870 to tie his crane fly larva but I think that hook flips over when fished. Well thanks for the insight Cheech, you gave a very sensible answer. I'll have to do some experiments myself. Thanks again.

Fly Fish Food PS, that wiggle whitey is so beautiful I can't stop looking at it. You should make a "pin up" calendar of twelve flies to match the months to fish them, like the calendars I use to see in the garages when I was a kid. (but those weren't featuring flies ;-) , maybe I got spring fever...)

Curious, do you guys have a hard time with articulated streamers hooking up on lakes? The other day I was getting a lot of bumps but missing them. I was able to see one cutt hit it three times with a side swipe. Interesting to watch and wondered if Im the only one that struggles with them on lakes. I do great with them in rivers.

tyler wares if it was on strawberry, it’s a different ballgame there. They will hit hard and then kind of disappear. Just strip set and if it doesn’t go tight just keep retrieving. They will come back and eat it.

@@FlyFishFood awesome, I had more success on the baby fat minnow for sure. But missed ones that haunted me on the articulated streamer - lol. Thanks for the quick reply!

I think the shank might be pulled out because there was no foldover or glue. than again I mighr be wrong and it's perfectly fine. but I'd be cautious when using this fly.

The super glue and thread wraps keep it rock solid. Kind of like the nail knot on your flyline.

Fly Fish Food strangely, I've never used a nail knot. It probably would be better than the Albright knots I've been using.
