The "lute" (the tear shaped box with strings on it) is a mountain dulcimer. Common in the Appalachian region of North America. It's a nice sounding instrument tuned to Open D with a Diatonic scale. It can be rather limited in range, but it sounds nice for the Scots-Irish melodies common in Appalachian songs.

2:43 - That’s called a fiddle stick! It’s a stringed instrument (obviously) that only has frets in one key. They’re fun to mess around with since it’s impossible to play a wrong note

It looks like a modern adaptaion of the dulcimer, i have similar thing called a Merlin Seagull, two high D strings together an A sting and a Low D, the frets look like they're set up like a merlin too, as long as its in tune you cant play a wrong note anywhere on the fretboard
Came here to say this. I’m from Kentucky, where they legit teach you to play that thing in school.
@@damienhicks3462 yeah, I grew up in the TN mountains and I have distinct memories of folk musicians coming into my elementary school and playing for us. I sing a bit of everything but mostly jazz and folk.
@@damienhicks3462 Haha brings back memories ! I'm from Kentucky as well, and we'd play it in our general music class. I saw it and thought nothing of it, but being at a Cashie's the instrument is definitely foreign (to Australia).
@@em-agan Hey, same, I grew up in Knoxville, and my mom used to play one, I would so love to learn to play one someday
I'm in Costa Rica. A couple of weeks ago I had my old classic iPod serviced (to see if it could be brought back to life--although I'm starting to think that it got bricked beyond recovery as I haven't heard from the place) and while running the options on what could be done for it, I brought up the 1000GB and 2000GB classic iPod videos from a couple of years back as a conversation starter...
The guy at the store told me that he'd seen the videos (and that he is a sub) and that the store has done memory augmentation on other people's iPods but with "far more reasonable" memory capacities LOL
Congrats on the 1 mil!
Que bueno otro fans de Dankpods tico mop! Saludos!
You've blown up and I'm genuinely happy for you. I've been watching you since before reaching 100k and I've been a Patron for a while. Thank you so much for putting out content like this. It has helped me throughout quarantine and will do so throughout the rest of my life by the entertainment you provide on your UA-cam and Patreon. I hope that your channels continue to expand and get better, you deserve it.
I hope that you have a good day and continue to record and publish videos on your UA-cam channel.
Been here since before 1k. Really astounded to see how this channel has grown so fast. Love that the content hasn't really fundamentally changed, all the while improving in quality, and that so many people enjoy it as much as I do. Keep up the great work, and congrats!
I can only wish I got here that early.
One of my favorite parts of the videos now is seeing the Patreon list get bigger and bigger and the sheer amount of love and support that’s poured into the channel. Love the content and garbage time too! Congrats on the 1m dank, never woulda thought it could happen this quick!
"You guys saved me from certain oblivion"
Times may be tough, but that's no reason to play Elder Scrolls 4. Instead there's the 4th or 5th release of Skyrim, coming out this week!
come on, It's not that bad, even if the everyone looks like psychonauts rejects
Mate, just play Morrowind
@@mr.bobcyndaquil4214 I have, playing oblivion now
@@mr.bobcyndaquil4214 Not when Todd Howard needs you to buy Skyrim. Again. And even if you don't, he'll auto-update your PC version and break all of your mods!

9:30 If you're a man of culture you know why i put this time stamp
Dank: *uploads a cashies vid*
Everyone: *drops everything for cashies national anthem*
(Huge congrats on the 1 mil subs!! Cheers to 2 mil mate!!)
9:25 Wade visibly recoiling when he hit that drum was hilarious.
I actually bought a "sexy speaker" new from Australia. I live in the southern US in louisiana. I'm probably the only person in the state that has an efm toledo. I love the speaker though. Has the best range of any Bluetooth speaker I've ever bought. I also noticed it doesn't have to be fcc compliant lol. Also the package said water resistant and not water proof. So the fact that yours still works is amazing. I also unfortunately had to buy mine through ebay and got it about a month later. All said, I love the speaker for it's performance and also it's novelty.
"Orksilary Moad"
Soon you will be the second louisianian to have the efm toledo aussie edition.
this is a threat, my friend.
Bleutooth moad
I know gentlemen don’t kiss and tell, but you know. Have done things to it?
@@MrWilberbeast1 lol that's between me and auxiliary mode XD
Congrats on 1 million subs!!! I’ve been watching you sense you started and it’s great to see how you’ve grown and I can’t wait to see how you grow from here! Your vids are great m8! Thanks for the entertainment!
Holy dingus, I remember finding this absolutely golden channel when it was at about 20k... time flies and I am so proud to be a part of your success:) Thank you!
Mate, where's the Nugget Car?
How can you go to Cashies without the Nugget Car, mate?
Anyways, huge congrats for 1M Subs!
It's busted, and it was already very sketch to drive in the first place, more info on that ua-cam.com/video/jyLFLtHI8OM/v-deo.html
It’s probably still in the garage on the edge of bursting into flames or leaking all its oil out. He’s got a old Mercedes to drive around with.
"What's the M mean? Why do I only have 1 of them??" You heard him boys, let's get to work
2:29 I still cannot believe that this is the same machine that my mother still uses since 20 past years.
Congrats on the 1mil dude, I remember finding your 1000GB iPod vid in a hungover daze on my feed and the rest was history. Came for the tech, stayed for the content and the Sassy impressions.
Congrats Wade! And Frank for being the wonderful support snake. It makes me feel so good to see that 1 million count! You've earned it!
*Edit: "The world's least efficient washing machine" had me rolling. Love the Cashies specials.
frank stinks
@J Dude Thanks, I guess?
Honestly, as a drummer, I kind of like the weird and unique sound the Cashies snare made. I wouldn't use it frequently, but it sounds interesting.
Yeah, I actually preferred the more damped sound it had.
"fencing set"
Dank my old mate, that's kendo.
And those suits are stupidly expensive
Seriously, this is a kendo set. A fencing sword is thin enough to go straight through that mask.
My first thought as well
Dangerous
Literally the first 30 sec of the first video I watched, I was hooked. You continue to be the most genuine and witty creators I watch here. Congrats man!
Genuinely can’t believe how quickly you’ve grown, but yet it’s not that surprising because your content is so entertaining.
Congrats & well-deserved.
2:43 - That’s called a fiddle stick! It’s a stringed instrument (obviously) that only has frets in one key. They’re fun to mess around with since it’s impossible to play a wrong note
“Don’t get lessons just start strummin” every parent is screaming rn
That "lute" is a mountain dulcimer! My dad bought one in Tennessee once, lol
2:43 Seeing a 7-string electric guitar at a 2nd hand store is kind of jarring for some reason lmao
grats on 1M! I hope you get more Ms soon
2:46 that Mr Dank is a Dulcimer, a mainly American instrument, and one of the easiest stringed instruments to play, because if tuned correctly, any where you put your fingers on the Fret board, is a note.
I wish we had an outstanding establishment such as cashies in the states
Goodwill is trying but not really
Same
We have it in New Zealand but it's mostly dodgy (potentially stolen) goods
Most definitely goodwill
Cough every garbage dump ever
DankPods, my guy. I love everything you do from the main channel to the live stream to videos of the polish nugget.
You deserve all the recognition and treasures sir.
Thank you.
Congratulations!! I remember watching when you were destroying sad MacBooks and the battle with eBay was still being fought! Your growth has been insane, I hope it’s provided you some stability, financial and otherwise, as a musician throughout covid.
2:43 - That's an Appalachian dulcimer. It's a popular folk instrument here in the US, especially in the South and in the Appalachian Mountains.
“Don’t get lessons just start strummin’!”
That does indeed sound like how banjo players start
Can confirm
First a collection of PK Cell’s, now a collection of EFM Toledos! Congrats on the 1M subs mate!
That 'lute' was an Appalachian dulcimer dank haha. Congrats on the mil mate, so cool that a fellow south Aussie has this success
I'm glad someone else recognized the dulcimer lol, are they common in Australia?
You know I would never think I would be in class listening to Australian man screaming at a speaker but here I am thank you for the many laughs man!
The passion associated with this channel is unmatched
I can't tell you enough how happy I am for you on the million subs, mate! I've watched your channel for about 5 months, and I've been addicted to your videos since then! Thank you for providing us with this absolute masterclass of a UA-cam channel.
Seeing you throw that Zil-Bell at the door was immensely satisfying. They really are hateful sounding things
Man the comment on the banjo resonates with me, I been learning the instrument for a bit now and that exactly how I started just start strumming lol
My favorite channel right here. Wade, thanks for the many laughs with friends. I'll never regret spending money on Patreon to support you. You're hilarious and we all love you. HUGE congrats on the massive milestone. I've been wishing this for you for a long time. Here's to the new 2M goal! Cheers from TN, mate
Huge props on the 1 mil, sir! I haven't known your channel for more than a year and yet you've grown so much during that time. You're one of the few people left on UA-cam that can get a genuine audible laugh out of me. Keep up the Craig collecting, earbud smelling and legendary storytelling, and dominate the planet with your army of Toledos!
i have been watching this guy since he had 60k subs and the moment he hit 100k i was so impressed for a youtuber like him to grow that fast and never would’ve thought that it would grow into some bigger. Congrats you Nugget!
The reverberating things on the the speaker are called passive radiators and the are used for tuning and can give the impression of a larger driver.
