Am I the only person who realizes how cool the video is? It's like some PSA or educational video about drum brakes... Very cool use. Oh yeah and the song is awesome.
all the new dj's are pretty talented, they deliver, but I feel like only diplo really takes time and puts a little bit of soul in what he does. He choses his music so carefully, he's fucking legit.
@fangjangler yarr im pretty sure you're right. seems like it would be the type of promotional visual a car manufacturer would have put together to promote the drum brake system when it was firstly implemented.... Amazing song too!
I already dig Marlena Shaw's version of this song, I can get into Diplo's version. The 5th Dimension had nice vocal prowess with the song, but sounded a bit thin in the arrangement.
The video shows the connection between Detroit and L.A. Back in the day Detroit made lots of cars. California is known for its infamous traffic and car culture. There you have it.
It does not happen very often, but this is better than the original by far. The drive of the song is contained within the refrain. The original loses it's power in the verse where the piano stops. Diplo is sick. I just happened to stumble upon his debut album in an independent record store in 2004. It was on showcase so you could listen via headphones. I listened to it for 5 minutes and bought it then and there. The violin section here is very reminiscent of "Big Lost." Check it out, badass.
No radio station that reaches my town has ever played this song. None of my friends know this band, none of the people I talk to online have mentioned this group and I never even overheard it at a party. It's in a genre I do not know the name of, so I couldn't even have googled or asked for that. I'd be very happy to know how you came across this tune, especially if it's some manner of radio station or news feed. So, how did you?
@shortyz807 I'm in agreement with you. There is a learning lesson here about the braking system for tires. It goes back awhile so technology may be light years beyond this now. But, if you're paying attention, you learn short pads make for smoke & fire- friction. Longer pads eliminate that. I wonder why they chose California Soul for this educational video? Listen & learn at the same time!
Thumbs up if you were a fan of this song back when the 5th Dimension sang it; before Marlena Shaw covered it and Diplo remixed it and Ubisoft stuck it in Driver...
@NavyMarineBlondie i couldnt agree more, remixes are usually...(polite) not so good.. but diplo seems to know what he's doing. knew the song for some time, and loved it from the start. and when it turned up in the game driver san fransisco, i was ever so happy :P there's alot more good music in that game tbh :)
Is that string sample (or whatever instrument it is) the same as the one in Adam Freeland - Mindkiller (Origin Unknown Mix)? Sure as hell sound the same to me, just a cut up version in the Freeland track. If someone can confirm I would really apreciate it. And even more so if you could help me get my greedy paws on that sample.
+Francisco Arreola some amazing thats this is a pop tune from 1969. so you like old pop me too. some amazing hiphop its not called rap. maybe a couple of good tunes from pop these dayys but dont beat the golden era
Am I the only person who realizes how cool the video is? It's like some PSA or educational video about drum brakes... Very cool use.
Oh yeah and the song is awesome.
I still get goosebumps every time I hear this song (every version)
So many Driver SF fans here! nice to see many have liked this kind of music!
I listen to this over and over again last night like a lullabye.
Equal parts electrifying and smooth, like biting into a peanut butter cup that's plugged into the wall. Nice.
GTA V, Driver SF and a good taste in music brought me here.

Congratulations, you are the very first individual I have ever thumbs down.
love longboarding to this
@JupiterRoom I think it refers to The Detroit Motown sound that often includes hand clapping, a powerful bass line, violins and bells.
This made it into the game? Great! I only ever played the demo, but it is a slick song of an equally slick album.
Driver san fransisco anyone?

Awesome remix... Marlena Shaw is simply amazing. I liked the visual - but what exactly is it? Reminds me of Life on Mars...
Lincoln lawyer (Movie) Brought me here (:

Fear is the mind killer.

Thumbs up if you were a fan of this song back when the 5th Dimension sang it; before Marlena Shaw covered it and Diplo remixed it and Ubisoft stuck it in Driver...
Thumbs up if you're a Hip hop lover watching this and not a dIplo fan boy.
You know there are a shitload of ways to know this song without involving a video game
Gangstarr brought me here
@NavyMarineBlondie
i couldnt agree more, remixes are usually...(polite) not so good..
but diplo seems to know what he's doing.
knew the song for some time, and loved it from the start.
and when it turned up in the game driver san fransisco, i was ever so happy :P

I hate the crappy rap and pop of today; I'd choose this music any day.
+Francisco Arreola some amazing thats this is a pop tune from 1969. so you like old pop me too. some amazing hiphop its not called rap. maybe a couple of good tunes from pop these dayys but dont beat the golden era
