Hope you're all doing well! I just wanted to mention that, these are my current favourite supplies but doesn't necessarily mean these are the only brands or options out there. Please keep in mind that at the end of the day, I'm just one person with limited time and resources - as much as I would love to be able to recommend dupes or alternatives to everything, I just unfortunately don't have the means to have all the answers. Also, I know that this probably seems like a lot of things, which it is, but I have accumulated these over many years. You absolutely do not need this many supplies to create great artwork! Anyways, love you all and I hope that this video helps answer some questions!

Keeping a sketchbook! YES!! One of my goals this year, too: to fill up a 100 page sketchbook that I'm hand-making myself. 😄 I'm so over the available sketchbook options so I'm making my own with variety paper for both drawing and painting. Experimenting with markers, too. Love your videos! Just subscribed. :)

Ooki first of all, omg you’re soooo pretty!
Second, I have a feeling that a lot of art UA-camrs got a batch of the Paul Rubens watercolor set that barely passed quality testing since they all received it around the same time from the same source. A lot of comments in those videos also said their experience was different and palettes from later or from a different palette line of Paul Rubens watercolor seems to be just as vibrant and nice as their tube paints? But that is just speculation on my part until I receive my palette.

100 percent cotton papers are archival (i.e. will last longer without yellowing and ruining your art). You will pay more for the higher quality. This is also why Daniel Smith watercolors are more expensive - they are made with lightfast pigments (or minerals if Prinatek) with a high pigment load. Lightfast/archival should be used for display art or sold art as it means your work will last many years without fading or changing. Only use lesser quality pigments or dyes (such as markers) when the art will be scanned for prints or put in a sketchbook that will not be exposed to light for long periods of time.

  • @MaryPrasadArt
    @MaryPrasadArt 4 роки тому +2

Thank you for sharing your art supplies! One important difference with Copic markers is that they are refillable. This means less plastic going into a land fill and makes them much more economical (refilling is a lot less expensive than buying markers). They also last. I have been using mine for many years. The nibs are replaceable too, although I think I’ve only ever replaced one. The markers are really well made.

at first i was bit hesitant to get porcelain palettes because of how big/heavy and expensive they can get. BUT HONESTLY, I TELL YOU WHAT - go get yourself one, seriously this is such a great thing to have, cleaning it is soooo easy, if you don't like the ones with ''small slots'' for colours, get yourself one of these flat big ones with just one surface where you can easily mix colours and inbetweens. It's literally perfect for any type of paint because everything comes of so easily.

Like there's a portal from this cute pink world to this dark sort of fantasy world. I don't know why I find that so cool or why I found the need to comment this so don't ask 😂

I don't have much experience with other watercolor brands because I'm still a newbie, but the colors are vibrant, there's little granulation (if that's what you're into), the set is aesthetically gorgeous, and I also like the wide pans. Great video, love seeing what other artists are using!
Re: Copics and why they seem more expensive than other alcohol based markers: They're refillable and the nibs are replaceable. Not only does that make them cheaper in the long run, its much more environmentally conscious. The replacement ink is honestly pretty cheap, $10-11USD each, but they'll refill a pen between 10-15 times, so less than a dollar per fill. Unless you're very heavy handed or using the wrong paper the ink lasts much longer than other brands as well. Also, because they blend so well, you can do more with fewer markers.
For anyone wanting to get into Copics, I recommend buying them a few at a time rather than as sets. Some shops also offer discounts for buying individual markers in bulk so shop around. (If you're in the US, go to Blick, they have an agreement with the distributor to maintain the lowest price in the US.) You dont save a ton by buying sets and you can also prioritize getting colours you really like. There's also no difference between the various lines (ciao, sketch, original) other than the amount of ink they hold ( and the original has a bullet nib instead of a brush, but you can easily swap nibs out so that's not a huge deal.) So if you want to keep initial costs down and dont mind refilling more often, get the ciaos!

I was surprised there are sharpeners out there you can change the angle with. I have a sharpener with two withs, one for normal and one for wider pencils (the triangular coloured pencils :D) and I always use the wider side to sharpen my regular pencils :)

loved that video, it gives ideas of birthday present to ask for ;)
about the Paul Ruben water colour set: you said it was small enough to travel with, but it seems pretty big to me ! for those who need an actual small palette, i'd recomment the art-toolkit palette: it's 9.5cm per 5.5cm (roughly 3.7 per 2 inches) !! obvioulsy it has less colours (only 14) but it's really good and the pigmentation is absolutely amazing ! ive used it in the past to go draw in muséums, and it was really handy :)
apparently the paul rubens are 72$ for 24 colours on amazon so the art-toolkit are more expensive (i think they were about 75$, but it was a gift so not 100% sure about that) but i like them a lot ^^

I just found your videos and they are pretty helpful. Especially the acrylic gouache and acrylic inks. I prefer acrylics because they are permanent. Will look into the lightfast qualities for each. I also use colored pencil over ink and paints. Same brands too! Thanks for making the video. I know they take a lot of time to do (editing etc.).

I have been using alcohol markers for a long time, and I can say that I was not blown away by copics at all. I mainly use a mix of W&N, touch and graph'it. The graph'it alcohol markers are the smoothest and juiciest I have used so far. I have finished some W&N markers, but this is where the problem with touch markers come in, they die quickly. The touch markers have a tendency to dry fast, even when capped, they evaporate in some way and leave a shiny crust of pigment on the nib. But the different brands mix in well with each other, the price is in the quality of the marker itself.
    I hope this helps anybody.

Okay I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing the same thing with the Touch markers! I also found they were drying quicker than my other brands but wasn't sure if I was just imagining it. Thanks for sharing!

What is wild to me is that we have almost every brand of colour pencils here and multiple of derwent but for the past 6 years I couldn't find a single Colerase pencil here. We have prismacolour premiere pencils but not the col-erase ones. It boggles my mind, that's why I stick to graphite pencils🙃.
