Yeah I was scrolling through pinterest and this one person saw this guy on a horse and she was all like, I was about to go all off on him but then I saw that he wasnt using a bit. And I was like, ????????????? The frick is wrong with you? Why do you care if he uses a bit or not?
Lol I ran into one of those the other day after posting a pic of my horse and I, they only ride in rope halters and think bits are abusive pieces of metal and said "I think there's no such thing as a soft hand with a bit" 😋 😂
Thinks Animals That's your opinion, but bits are honestly just pressure. If I press on your arm, it doesn't hurt. That's what bits are. If I poke and smack your arm, it hurts. That's what abusing bits power is. You can abuse bitless bridles power too, but they're really all just different means of pressure (if used correctly.) That's just my opinion though. Some horses are happier in bits while others are happier in bitless.
Oh wow that's so cool hey Alex!!!! Haha I know my channel is super cringe worthy hopefully I can post some GoPro videos soon since I got one for Christmas!
Still don't get riders who call whips abusive when you're just gently giving them a tap and not beating them with it. Yeah I'm just going to keep kicking them in the stomach every 5 seconds instead of giving them one tap with the whip and getting over with it 😂
i think sometimes people just assume that the whips are being used to hit the horse when they are acting out but most people i know and me included only use whips to give direction and lightly tap the horse when using it
EquestrianPrep I've honestly never used a whip 😅. Granted my older sister whistle trains her horse and he's who I'm also riding until I get my own. I mean I definitely have never kicked my horses, if I want them to go quicker I either squeeze my legs a little or tap. Just my little join in to this conversation heh, whips or lightly tapping your horse are equally effective, it's only the people who kick harshly that are wrong
@@savannahnegron8696 they do care about their horses. Raleigh takes her opinions way to far, and she is rude to other equestrians. But these guys love their horses and if you cant tell than you haven't been watching enough videos.
Not true at all. Bareback is extremely good for the muscles of both the horse and rider. I don’t know where you got your information but that is entirely wrong.
Anna Hanlon If you ride bareback often, it can harm your horse’s back. The reason why saddles are necessary is because it spreads your weight so it’s not all in such a small point in your horse’s back.
That's b.s... riding bareback hurts the horse. Then use a bareback pad. Western saddles are too bulky. I never used them. You can't feel the animal between your legs with a saddle on.
Yes, it can hurt/be uncomfortable for the horse. I had a neighbor that had a couple mares she'd let me go out and sit on while they were in the pasture. Both of them would wiggle and squirm when I hopped up and didn't settle down until I laid back and took my weight off my seat bones. Apparently, I have a bony backside, because that's been the reaction of every horse I've tried to ride bareback. Hoping that when I'm able to get my own horse, I can find a bareback pad with a touch extra cushioning that will alleviate that problem... XD
I mean so you guys thought that the saddle lifting up when she leaned forward was ok. um don't think so. But I'm fine because its not my horse that is going to be hurting from poor saddle placement, it will be yours. Thanks and I hope you guys have a great rest of your day!
johnna Ott wow? They put on a saddle wrong for a short time. It might have been uncomfortable for the horse during that period, but it didn't kill him... Not everyone knows everything about western so don't expect for them to get stuff 100% correct. We all make mistakes and learn for them, when I first started to ride I did all sorts of mistakes.
Okay, 6:13 I don't use spurs just because I don't lime the idea of them but I can see why they would be needed. But I don't use them, not for "oh its abusive" but I don't think you need them for normal riding. I just sometimes use riding crops on stubborn horses.
Honestly, everything she says at 4:49 is true (other than not wearing a helmet; that’s just ridiculous). She’s obviously making fun of people who do liberty, but horses don’t like being kept in a little tiny stall or having spurs always poking them in the ribs or bits always yanking at their mouths. We expect so much of horses while they would rather be free, and it’s the least we can do to not these things to them. A lot of people think liberty is stupid and crazy, but I think it’s stupid and crazy to say you love your horse, all the while you’re using a bit, spurs, and keeping them all penned up as if they don’t have their one life and their own feelings. 🐴❤️
Hanalei Greer what you are saying is super true except for pens. Lots of people stay in their rooms a lot, and most horses still get to be turned out. If they live in a stable then yeah that’s abuse. But I totally respect your opinion.
This was all supposed to be made to not be taken seriously but my beliefs is that if you use the equipment properly it’s ok. Like obviously spurs aren’t always poking, that’s why you aren’t supposed to always have your heel on them either. You’re not hurting the horse either if you’re slightly hitting them with the spur bc your heel occasionally hits them. Also saddles are fitted so they don’t hurt the horse it doesn’t hurt. Horses are accustomed to all of these things we’ve started using. It might take a little training but it’s no harm if everything is used right.
I’m the western cowgirl 😂 And I died when she got off the horse and ran away 😂 And the one where she was saying everything was abusive got me 😂 When she was holding the reins “no this is a new productive way... I swear, ok?” 😂
There’s a horse at my barn who just wants food all day- like I’ll be grooming him and he’ll use his nose to open the door and he just walks out, grabs a bite of hay and walks back into his stall- and during this I’m just like 👁👄👁
Sophie Bamford x everyone's entitled to their opinions. Personally I think it's very dumb and careless to get on a horse without a helmet. Period. That's my opinion. I don't agree wijth Raleighs. End of story. She doesn't have to like it but there's not much she can do about it.
A couple years ago I started lessons and I fell off. It wasn't a bad fall but my bones are weaker and I broke my arm. It happened to be my second lesson. She had me trotting. Do you guys think that was ok? And should I get back on a horse again?
Fun fact. During one one with world wars, they didn't have helmets at first and found that, for example, 1 in 5 soliders ce back with head wounds. When they came out with helmets, they found that a lot more soldiers came back with head wounds. So they decided helmets were bad... Instead of the fact that more soldiers that were getting hit in the head were coming back to the hospital alive instead of dying in the field.

i think sometimes people just assume that the whips are being used to hit the horse when they are acting out but most people i know and me included only use whips to give direction and lightly tap the horse when using it
