Combo welders in the refinery is typically making $32 hr - $ 38 hr
Plus perdiem is around $60 - $100 a day
That’s in Louisiana
And the jobs are temporary
Most welding jobs don’t pay all that good
They always trying to get the welder at the lowest rate
So the company makes the more profit
Lots of welding jobs vary
In pay
The low to mid twenties is the most common
$20 bucks flipping burgers or $20 bucks welding, they’re definitely robbing some welders out there
I haul heavy equipment, and we're getting about the same... skilled trades are bad right now
@@AbcXyz-rn2lztravel
Flipping burgers at $20 is all you'll ever make. Welding you can move up and make more money.
@@brandons9138 you can be a big time millioneya
The jobs were paying good years ago…even 10 years ago it was alight, but inflation had devalued the dollar. Minimum wage people whined about pay and they got raises but the trades guys have yet to be bumped up.
very important to know that wages also depend on if you travel or not, cost of living in your part of the country, and the quantity and quality of tools the company expects the craftsmen to bring themselves
No arguments there

Ain't no way in hell would I ever weld for $13.00.

@@HeNnEsSy_HiCcUpSWow. Fast food workers in California now making $20 an hr lol
@@HeNnEsSy_HiCcUpSfr, on my wait shifts I usually average around 35 dollars on a weekday or around 60 Friday and Saturdays.
This video made me realize I've wasted 15 years in a fab shop. Don't get stuck in a fab shop.
Go on your own. You'll do just fine if you hustle. And you'll have freedom & flexibility to work on your own terms with regard to scheduling and what work you take/don't take.
@@branchandfoundry560how do I go on my own with hardly any equipment? I have a mask and gloves, I'm wayyyy too poor for a truck, I might be able to buy a welder soon. How big of a loan do I need to get to start a business?
Cheers for the feed back appreciate it. Planning to do a trip over to the US once I’m qualified to learn some more. Hopefully at WWA
counting on it!
You guys seem like down-to-earth Christian folks. I like your humble yet honest ways.
Thanks
Well that's a pretty racist and anti-semitic remark to make.
@Levan D practicing Christians who truly have a relationship with God are down to Earth. Why do you have to get offended by such a statement?

Thanks you! Appreciate it

You said it!
My dad worked as a part time welder when we was in college he is currently teaching me how to weld
W dad
I am 5 years on welding in many environments. I have had to relocate and take pay cuts due to family care and such. Right now a D.1.1 in 3 and 4 g is getting starting pay at 20 an hour in most Oregon shops with years of experience. And thats welding structural code CMP for transmission and communication towers, including heavy pipe fitting. 😂
Gotta say, 20 should be a minimum if the parts stick together. Burger joints and big box pay 16-20 for minimal skill jobs. The entire industry has to get together. Y'all are worth more than this. If you're passing xray, it should be 50 min. Rant over.
BTW no hate to WWA, love the content.
Thanks for your support!
I make 12.75 as a machine operator/tig welder. Just learned how to tig a year ago. I’m tired of the cheap labor. I’ve endured a year learning how to tig weld. I want to take it further and go to school an better myself.
Love seeing you're videos!
Thank you for your support!
James is right know your worth and also know how good your skill is
Truth
Really enjoyed that. This really helps me with knowing what im worth. I reckon Im worth about 17.76 - 24 a hour. Still in welding school though. Hope to come out with yall one day
It's really important to know your worth
I was a tool & die maker 23 years ago and TIG welded high speed steel molds and other parts for 10 years. NAFTA took out the job trade. I'm retiring from a 23 year IT computer engineer job. Setup a small shop to TIG/MIG weld and CNC plasma cut. They don't pay welders enough. I'm leaving a 130K a year job at 58 to weld and fab. Seeing 13 and 18 an hour for welders is sad. They should make a lot more. People are making 18 at harbor freight running a cash register!! I'm not doing the move to make lots of money but I enjoy machining. Hoping to make a few bucks doing some fab repair etc...
great information James, cheers from Florida, Paul 'Paulie' Brown
Glad it was helpful!
Please make more of these I’ve been waitin for mine to be on here I know it’s not good but I’m still curious so I can see where I’m at and how much further I can go.
More of this coming! Stay tuned

We’re do people send in there welds
I have been trying to hard to find a shop in my area that will let me work for them one day a week for a few hours so I can learn. I don’t have time for school so learning in the side has to be my best thing.
You can do it!
Im making $30/hr tig welding in a shop. Do everything from pharma and food grade stainless tube all the way to sch 160 pipe. We fab up units for Gas, paper, steel industries. Worked on all 300 series stainless, carbon, hastalloy, chromoly and more. Ive been welding for 4 years, thinking about taking on my own business soon.
What’s your best advise for a 25 year old who is deciding to get into welding with no experience at all ? Thinking about taking welding as a full time career but don’t have the proper guidance
I'd like to hear your guys opinion on laser welding and is it worth the major investment that's all I've picked up was laser welding to practice with
We'll take note of this
Hi i am indian iti welder student so very nice empress video ❤❤
Thank you!
I remember y'all posted to send in photos of welds I forgot how and we're to send the picture hahaha but cool stuff yall

I've been welding over 30 years now, the tycoons never pay the welders as they should, using highly skilled workers for pennies. So i tried every type of welding, moving from electrode to mig to tig, also trying all kinds of materials.
Now I'm in the niche of military grade welding, aluminium, stainless, titanium, and welding planes wings, motor, electric boxes, tank parts, missiles, bombs and so on.
Due to the demand worldwide especially this year, it pays the most, and these kind of welders are now the most wanted in the field, that's my recommendation, especially for welders new in the art, to go after things that not many people can do, pays better... good luck to all.
Any chance I could talk to you a bit? Sounds right up my ally.
Local 433 iron workers here in Los Angeles are DESPERATE for structural welders,,,, $55 per hour not to mention local 250 pipe fighters are desperate too,,, $50 per hour,,,,40-90 hours per week and $150 per day subsistence. No end in sight,,, lots of work on the books
@@johnj8840 they are hiring “off the street” rite now!! Several BIG jobs in the LA/OC area rite now.

If you want us to suggest a school then look no further than Western Welding Academy. More info on applytoweld.com
Im in Hampton roads too bro just got out of navy. Check out the shipyard
By all means you will not find a better school than Western Welding Academy. I'm retired as a heavy equipment and industrial mechanic, I've done lots of fabrication and Been around lots of welding processes, I look for schools so I can make recommendations to young people for a career. This school is top of the line, you will not be disappointed to attend it.
Hey I want to send in some pictures of my welds. I don't do IG or anything how can i do that
Hey, send your welds here so we can rate them www.westernweldingacademy.com/rate-my-weld or link in bio
honestly for me im in a weird postion at my company im not just a welder im also a fabricator and a pipe fitter we do anything from making and setting hangars to setting equipment to building giant silos we hold alot of contracts with big food companies setting equiment and fixing current equipment. but we barely get paid 20 to 22 dollars a hour. just doesn't seem right to me
My story is similar to yours. I never made any serious money until I joined a Union. I’m in the Labor’s Union not pipe fitters, but the money and benefits are better.
$20 an hour for a fabricator/welder is a rip off. If you can read prints, tack everything up correctly and weld it, you should be making $25-30 an hour in a fab shop. If you can weld pipe 6g, start looking for $30-50 an hour jobs. Do not take any less no matter what people tell you. Manufacturing companies are being cheap with wages, meanwhile UPS and Amazon package loaders are making $18-20 an hour with no experience.
@Christian Zavala I can do stick tig and mig my company is mostly tig I am able to weld pipe in all positions most the welds I do is in a lift in a rack. 90% of what we do is stainless. I can do stainless carbon aluminum and some other alloys and sanitary but sanitary tig is easy as shit
@@BronzeAlliance brother you gotta start looking elsewhere, $20-22 for someone who can weld pipe is a joke, that company boss is laughing his way to the bank. You should be making $30+ an hour, sometimes even with per diem if it’s a traveling job. Start looking for the specialty jobs in the aerospace/oil industries.
So many just settle, but your correct be worth your money.
I love your reviews mr James but I wanna see your welds now😂

If your independent paying all your expenses how much are you really making? Certified at American Bridge in 1976 and welded on the Walking shovel they were building at the time including all the pipe welding on two 48ft base sections for the boom on a 248ft crane and got complimented by the shovel companies' engineers who had to inspect it for themselves, every weld was x-rayed or UT'd, after it pass visual and a gauge test, never cut out a weld as I never made a bad weld. I think the job paid $5.45 an hour plus benefits, lasted three months. I went elsewhere and became an electrician, no fumes to inhale or other health risk from grinding dust etc., in general a much better trade. Retired in 06 with a full pension. Still weld for myself and since when does any weld become unimportant, rewelded some welds on my father in-laws farm equipment because of poor welding by others. I see a lot of so-called certified welders out there who's welds wouldn't pass visual inspection or a gauge test, what's up with that?
That last guy is getting the shaft! He needs to ask for a raise or move on. Should be making at least $18-$20.
California that weld brings $30-$35.
Im with you on that. You can make 18/hr flipping burgers in Dallas. Welders deserve more than that.
I agree with this guy
🤝
Occasionally my welds aren’t worth what I make
I make $110 a hour or I charge per the job. I’m not reach I just like the time I spend with my family at home being able to work when I feel like it. i ain’t no pipe welder. Just a normal joe

In autralia alloy welding in a fab shop.. your looking at $100-$110 hr for using mig, $120-$200 hr for tig, stainless steel tig $100-$300 a hr.. So all you American tig'ers get a job in Australia lol
