Great comparison. A colleague of mine is using an iphone 14 pro and I am honestly blown away at how good it is for video. If you're just making videos for socials, it's definitely a great option. The camera geek in me will always go for the m50 and to my eye it still looks better but it's crazy how good phones are getting.
Why you used the neutral picture profiles on Canon in both pictures and video since in neutral the colours look washed out.. it was such an unfair comparison.. the iPhone obviously looks good because of its punchy colours.. you should've atleast used the Standard picture profile for a somewhat fair comparison
OK. So that was the thing that made me think the Canon was worse - the weak colours and lack of detail. The Iphone colours looked way better. Are there examples of film shot outside with the Canon M50 mark II in a different picture profile setting?
I secretly hate that modern phones are producing superior images to entry to mid-range mirrorless cameras. Cameras are fun to use, but the reality just doesn't justify the need for mirrorless cameras 95% of the time.
I hate to admit that I totally agree with you here Aerohk, the newer phone cameras are just getting better and better, and the mobility and convience are massive extras. If I have to pull my M50 out of the bag get all the settings perfect and then press the shutter or hit record, I might have missed what everyone else just filmed on their phones 30 seconds earlier. For travel and casual shooting my phone is becoming more an more my number one device 😲
I’m also thinking of getting the iPhone 14 pro for more convenient content creation while travelling,, packing the m50 isn’t much of a hassle,, but not having to pack a gimbal is what excites me 😅😂
Still using the original M50, take it with me to most places when I have the purpose of shooting quality pictures, although the iPhone 14 pro lots great 👍
It is a shame that big camera companies like Canon and Sony don't produce compact cameras that can take better pictures and shoot better videos than smart phones. I would buy such camera and would not spend too much money in phones for pictures. Maybe they don't produce it deliberately, they might be earning more by providing components to those phone brands.
Great video, exactly what I was looking for! I love my M50, and for an upcoming trip to London was trying to decide if I want to invest in a gimbal for video. But between the 4K crop and the extra gear to carry around, I just don’t think it’s worth it next to the 14 Pro. Thanks for saving me some cash and space in the camera bag!
A great compo video, wins on both sides, I think. But it’s more kudos to the iPhone 14pro to be able to stand up to an almost pro camera at this stage of the game. Myself, I like a lens based camera for stills, but, like they say, it’s the camera u hv with you that (hopefully) gets the shot.
Yep, I think convinece is massive, the camera I have with me all the time is on my mobile device :-o But of course for professional / corporate shoots I always have a full frame and some nice glass (:
I would love to see someone make a tutorial on how to take b roll footage of a keyboard or mouse for example when you don’t have a whole studio and just generic lightning. It seems impossible as a newbie to get nice footage of a product without a whole studio:(
This was a real struggle for me at the beginning ❤️ if you go back to my earlier videos, from 2015-2018 - I was living with my in laws shooting across my bed with a cameras that had terrible autofocus and spent hours trying to make it look good with minimal lights, if you can I would recommend trying to shoot near a window during golden hour to get some nice natural light for your products. As time has gone by the key has been consistency, trying to put out a new video at least every 2 weeks, then investing little by little - over 5 years I’ve been able to buy a place with a garden office and more kit to help improve my videos - but it didn’t start like that, we all have to start somewhere and the key is trying to focus on making your content 1% better with each video 🙏🙏💪💪 give it a go and keep trying and improving ❤️❤️❤️
Would you ever recommend selling you M50 Mark II with a f1.4 lens in order to buy an iPhone 14 Pro for shooting UA-cam VIDEOS? For me it’s about the depth of focus
Wow - this is a great question - tbh I find myself using three cameras atm - my R6 for professional content - my IPhone 14 for casual content - and my Insta 360 go 2 for BTS content. I think it will depend on how regularly you are shooting with your M50 - it’s a great camera - but for convenience the iPhone 14 pro is winning from my side 🙏🙏🙏
Until you use zoomfunction on iphone it looks pretty good, nightfunction looks good but miserable compared to m50. Photography on phone is for amateurs who need easymode.
This comparison is wrong..a smartphone always colors its capture record The photo from the M50, is not relevant, if you capture it in neutral mode without color. You will never be able to compare the sensor of a camera to a micro sensor of a smartphone
Terrible comparison. 2:47 terribly tuned colors and exposure ... I guess that's the whole comparison. This is an amateur camera from the initial price segment, and even it is on a par with a kit lens, and if you take better lenses, then the iPhone will no longer be able to compete even with it, not to mention older camera models. The iPhone has only 2 advantages: 1) no need to buy many lenses for different purposes 2) no need to think when taking a photo, the phone will do everything for you (if you don’t think, the result is clearly visible here 2:35 )
The iPhone does a good job no doubt but in the end it’s still a phone. For convenience as well as being just a dedicated shooter you could go with something as simple as the Canon G7X Mk3, Sony RX100 VII or Sony ZV1 and have all the benefits of a dedicated camera including the easily swappable and inexpensive storage. Easy to use in auto but IF one were to choose to learn the camera and shoot manual/RAW+JPG they would have the best of all worlds AND still be able to take a call while shooting. 😊
