Otto achieved the milestones Tywin never did. His grandchildren were the blood of the dragon.
Facts. He wasn't as overly cruel either, he was politically savvy and had patience.
As did Tywin in his own way but, the length Tywin went, just for it all to come crashing down with House Lannister being viewed in a negative light... Otto just slid in, low key 😅 he did well

Otto is such an interesting character, elevated by Rhys Ifans' incredible performance. He's often portrayed as an evil, manipulating snake by the wider community, but the truth is that he acted how any other lord would've done in his position. He saw an opportunity to install his family on the throne and took it. He's a calculating mastermind, unafraid to use every advantage at his disposal, something you need if you want to play the Game of Thrones.
I gotta give it to Rhys, the man embodied this character as if he was born to play Otto. He went above and beyond as Otto Hightower. Also, Otto is one of the most interesting characters on the show.
One of the best characters on the show; without political scheming, there literally would be no point of the show. He's a calculated genuis.
Yes, but he is a true monster. He is the real reason for war, and responsible for many lives. Lyonel Strong was as wise as him, and yet he was loyal to the king and the realm. He was an honorable man unlike Otto. Otto Hightower has no honor.

Nah, even Lyonel said it was a bad idea to name Rhaenyra heir, and he didn't approve of her and Harwin's... intimacy.
Otto simply took action where Lyonel begrudgingly kept up appearances. Both are good hands, but Otto isn't evil or a monster.
He's just a pragmatic man who knew the King's feelings were getting in the way of his duty. Lyonel disagreed with Viserys, as did Otto, and many others. Only difference is thay Harwin took it upon himself to sleep with the Royal family, and Otto had directed his daughter do it with a different person, and actually have legitimate kids.
Both hands have grandchildren with royal blood.
Otto has a ridiculous grasp of language. Love hearing the way he suggests, contests and spars with those around him.

Yeah he doesn’t have Tywin’s narcissistic ego that ruins everything or Littlefinger’s pure evil and lack of loyalties.
Tywin- agreed he does anything for his family’s power, wealth and strength, and his willing “in a way” to sacrifice his daughter, he didn’t care if she didn’t want to be queen or not, he did that all the same and won,
Alicent realized that a bit late
Littlefinger- agreed cuz of his ambition and lack of loyalty. Also cuz he has no problem using Alicent has tool to get power, just like Littlefinger did to Sansa
And also due to his way of advising the king, everything he says to Viserys is the advice that benefits Otto the most

All had commonsense. The dumb ones are the Rhaenyra and Aegon 2, Aemond etc (Viserys kids) also Viserys himself.
An intelligent, ambitious, cunning, loving and ruthless man playing an ugly game, not because he wants to, but because he needs to. He needs to do anything he can to win the game for his family, for his peace of mind, for his desires and for the realm. The beacon of the Hightower family needs to light the path for the future of his family. A lonely man, missing his wife, consumed by his duty to the realm and to his family. A true man if you ask me, doing what it needs to be done for the legacy of his family. You can only love or hate Otto Hightower. With a man acting by a strong and controversial personal creed there is no middle ground.

It reminds me of an old saying. A father loves his children more than he will ever tell them.
Just today, I talked about Otto with my friend. And we agreed that he IS a valuable character whatever side you're on, black or green.
He's intelligent, planning, resourceful and good at diplomacy and alliances.
And for the kingdom he's a necessary politician to put things in the right place.
I simply respect his character
My favorite character from House of the Dragon.. he truly encapsulates the Game of Thrones personality.. his voice is perfect… he has that bad ass personality that is similar to Tywin Lannister.. love him

Best character in the show. A political genius and an absolute mastermind. Rhys Ifans is such an excellent actor and brings every scene to life with his performance as Otto Hightower. I loved his relationship with Viserys and can't wait for what season 2 brings us.

Given that otto does seem to be coming to the realisation that he chose the wrong heir and assuming that his regret does continue I'd love to see a Regret season 2 compilation - Ambition and Regret are definitely two sides of one coin

Not everyone sees him as a villain. That's completely debatable. So far he's been nothing but short of amazing in his screen time. What villainous acts has he done? Selling his daughter to a happy and a powerful relationship with Viserys? I don't understand you people. Way too biased. It's like he said: "If that's true then I made you the queen of the seven kingdoms." Which is absolutely correct and true. If it weren't for him she wouldn't even be in this position. She should be eternally grateful and thankful for his presence in her life.
