I was 23 years old in 1988, when this interview took place, and I will turn 57 shortly. I just finished Steve Van Zandt's autobiography, and he was partially responsible for getting The Rascals into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, and did their intro on that day. He said they got into it before they went on and he had to talk them into putting their differences aside to accept their award. I still don't know what the issues were that caused the dispute. But oh well, their music is terrific and that is the good that folks will remember.
I ran into Felix accidentally one day renewing his driver's license in White Plains NY on Central Av. in 1968 at the height of their popularity. He was well groomed and wearing a camel hair overcoat.
In their heyday, I saw them live three times, maybe four. They were SO GOOD! The drummer could do anything. Two best bands I ever saw were Led Zeppelin and the Young Rascals.
I am envious! Never got to see either of these bands live. My husband and I got tickets for Zeppelin in 1977. In a rotten turn of events, Robert Plant's son suddenly died and the remaining tour was canceled. How awful that had to be for them. I loved both bands :(
Damn I wish I could have been there... the are still such a huge influence in my life... here I am 61. in 2018... When I wake up not feeling so good. I play it's a beautiful morning. or Groovin... in almost an instant... I am 16 again, of course, only until the song stops playing... But the jumpstart to my day has absolutely taken Hold... Thanks... and luv U....
If I never hear "Good Lovin'" again it'll be too soon, but I really dug the Rascals and never get tired of their music. It would have been nice to have seen Eddie here.
@@twistoffate4791 I'm with you. A great band with a string of really solid recordings. Was there heavy internal strife? Did the band feel that they did all they can do? Each one of these men has more than enough talent to have had a good career on their own, away from "The Rascals". As a group they were killer.
Eddie did join the group when Whoppie Goldberg had them on her show a couple years ago. They were supposed to be doing another reunion tour, but I'm not sure how it turned out or if they completed the tour. The Whoppie Goldberg show with the Rascals reunion for Whoopie's birthday should be on youtube. Whoopie said they are her favorite band. It may be listed as "The View"?
When you have the Rascals on your show, at least put a drum set and a guitar and amplifier next to the piano, and throw in a union bass player. "Good Lovin" was not a good choice for this kind of setting.
@@juniormint3136 You are so right. Crappy cars started in the mid to late 70's and that remains one of my pet peeves. I had no problem with land yachts and my daily drivers are two intermediate sized 77 station wagons.
@@mitchgawlik1175 I'm just guessing you never heard the Rascals live. One of the greatest groups ever and maybe the best live act ever. So what do they do have 2 of them without instruments that's nuts. Playing Good Lovin with just a piano is nuts. Gene's rhythm guitar is essential and Dino is one of the greatest drummers ever looking like who knows what tapping on the piano. Like I said before I don't know why the 3 of them let that happen. Regis and Joy did join in but I that sure didn't help.
I have googled this, without success..but I am certain that I saw Felix in a tv show...a series. in an acting role!! Somehow, Perry Mason sticks in my mind!!! I would love to know! I find Felix Cavaliere not only an extremely talented man, as well as a person with beliefs, about right and wrong!! And, so it seems, a very lovely man..
I got into school trouble because of these guys. What? 1966-67? We were all packed into the auditorium, naturally I broke out my AM transistor radio (a banned item, and there was no FM radio in those days) and put it to my ear with the volume down low. No sound! Dead battery? I raised the volume to see and immediately realized my mistake... I could hear all sort background noise from distant stations. The station I was tuned to (WKDA) just wasn't saying anything. Then there was a sudden loud blast of a song that got everyone's attention... including the wrong kind of attention. I had turned on the radio in the middle of the Rascal's hit song, "Good Lovin.'" Those old enough to know will remember that the song had a silent interlude of a couple seconds before it resumed with "GOOD LOVIN!" I had the volume on high when the song resumed! I won't forget that... neither will my behind because those were the days when principles and even teachers could beat you almost unconscious with pieces of hardwood flooring they called "paddles."
DAMN, Regis scored on this one!! His wife is beautiful! Gene is wearing the same clothes he was wearing in the clip of the concert. I hope he washed them first!
That was AWESOME!!! It's really no big thing but, I sure wished that Regis would have Thanked them for those T - Shirts. Anyways Thank you for Posting this Baby...........🎸💚
Correct. My hometown. He was born in Ottawa (Ontario, Canada) and moved to Rochester with his family when he was a kid. Definitely went through high school here. Benjamin Franklin High School.
Beautiful Morning Is. A Beautiful Song

Master Musicians, very proud fan for 55 years, love the music of Felix, Eddie, Dino and Gene

For years and years we woke up with a beautiful morning and our son continued in this inspiring tradition.
Luved the way they understood and stood up for SOCIAL JUSTICE💞🙏🏿

Yes,indeed .They set the stage for so many .So to speak. Also seen them in their prime many times. Nobody came near them.

I cannot believe this was taped 34 years ago. And it's still fresh as ever.
One ,of the Best and most Talented groups. It's, a shame how they self destructed.

Could not of said it better,,,,
Dino was not only a great drummer, but he had style, too. It surprised me when I learned Felix had classical training.
dino danelli → the greatest drummer ever...
Dino , a fine drummer in his own right!
He had Tallent and Vigor. He inspired Drummer's to have Fun and humanized it.
One of the best ever.

Seem like nice and entertaining guys. From my generation. Good Lovin' is a song I play (poorly he he). Thanks for the music gentlemen.
Love this band!
A Girl like you,my all time favorite song,Absolutely love it!
A TERRIFIC AND VERY POPULAR BAND. HAD THE PLEASURE OF SEEING THEM BACK IN THE DAY IN THE PHILLY AREA. UNFORGETTABLE!!!
Always loved you guys and your music.Still play all these favs on my oldie ipod list LOVE LOVE LOVE You all
Fine ass Dino up there! I was 18 when this aired. Great memories!!!
Eddie Brigati is THE voice of the Rascals!!! What a writer!!
Felix was more "the voice" than Eddie!
They both were great!

I saw a video from one of the NBC doctor shows from the 90s, Felix was singing Good Lovin' and being brought into the hospital.

C'mon, Regis, you couldn't wheel out a Hammond B3? Well, I'll take The Rascals any way I can get 'em.
I bumped into Gene in Manhattan, in his Rolls c. 1970.
Did you have liability insurance?
The soulful voice of Felix Cavaliere - for years I thought their music was done by a black singer. 😮
Yay Gene

…. people can’t clap in time….. there is no entertainment in this ….
