How are the food rations on veggies and fruit in the UK impacting your vegan lifestyle? You chose tinned tomatoes instead of fresh tomatoes. Is your Aldi rationing them? How long do you think the rationing will last? Will you grow your own produce? Have you tried growing sprouts and microgreens in place of store bought produce?
There have been a couple of times when we’ve visited the supermarkets and haven’t been able to get what we wanted, but that’s basically just been tomatoes. We did find some yesterday though, so it’s not like they don’t exist at all here. It’s a bit disheartening to see the empty shelves, but it’s nothing like as bad as it was during the Covid lockdowns. At the moment, it’s just a bit of an inconvenience. As for how long it will last, it’s hard to tell. We hope that it’s no for long, but it’s all down to the supply that’s available. I would love to grow my own produce, but we don’t have any outside space at our current flat, and the waits for allotments are very long. We do have our names down though so fingers crossed 🤞 maybe in the meantime we could do micro greens on our windowsill like you mentioned 🌱
Yeah we do get a lot of organic produce in Aldi here. It is still more expensive than the non organic, but great to see shops like Aldi/Lidl etc offering affordable organic produce alongside the regular veggies.
Great budget shop from Aldi video Charlie & Freya. It's been a while since I have spent less than £20 on a week's grocery shopping. Love 🥰 the video.
Thank you so much! Yeah it’s pretty amazing, we did have to be super careful to stick to that budget though, so not something we’d do every week!
Thanks both really inspiring
So glad to help and that you found the video inspiring 😊

I grow as much of my own produce as I can. I never like going back to store bought veggies because it never tastes the same.

That is great. So much cheaper than the US.
These are also organic produce they get there. To get that produce here, multiply times 6, at the very least. Organic, much, much higher.
Thanks so much!
