this build order is pretty good but i saw beasty make a mistake at 0:00. playing byzantines its crusial to pick the right color which is purple of course, any other color puts you at a disadvantage making this build order only have a win rate of 95%. now it is possible beasty picked teal to throw of the opponent by picking a non meta color, but its equally probable beasty is nerfing himself to make the game a little more fair.
Picking purple color means you're telegraphing that you're playing Byzantine. You'd ask "And what? I have 100% winrate". The problem is opponent will deprive you from the pleasure of absolutely crashing them, unpluging ASAP as they see your imperial purpleness in lobby.
Its also very important to practice all colors vs bots in case your opponent on ladder predicts youre going for purple byzantine build and counterpicks with purple with a civ not as relient on color such as abbasid because theres no black color. To minimize this risk you should also hide your match history and prevent completing byzantine masteries at all cost.
Glad you uploaded this, been maining the Byzies and the one time I drop by your stream, you are showing a pretty neat build order for them instead of the temperamental hippodrome build or 2 cistern builds I have been, glad I don't have to keep swapping to Twitch to view it
If you think about it byzantine farms under grand winery gather rates are so much better than anything else in the game. Not only do you get extra 60% gather rate in olive oil, you also get extra 60 % on the cistern bonus and gather upgrades. Also olive oil can pay for gold units so its also kinda like enclosures. In total resources, its about double standard vill.
Its not almost double a standard vill. Standard vills get 45% from horticulture. The farm upgrades translate into less than the actual gather rate, and there's diminishing returns the more gather rate you get because walk time becomes a bigger factor, but I'm gonna ignore that for the sake of argument. A villager under grand winery will get 71% gather rate, and it returns an extra 32% resources in olive oil. Grand winery does not make you return 60% of resources as oil, it makes you return 60% more, and farms return 20% base, so it increases to 32%. So they get 1.71/1.45*1.32 more resources. That's about 55%, and in practice probably slightly less due to walk time. That's good, but its not double.
Been a while since I played Byz so cmiiw but the GW gives you extra oil not increasing the Gathering Rate. Essentially the typical 1500 foods Berry Bushes will net 1200 Oils (from 750 oil) and the Olive Groves will net 3 oil/10 foods (instead of 2 oil per 10 foods)
@@RandomPerson-cc9mn Is horticulture additive or multiplicative with cistern gather rate? I always assumed it was multiplicative (1.45*1.26=1.82) It would then mean 66% instead of 55%. (after some researches, it looks like HRE and Abbassid stacks additively, while english seems to stack multiplicatively... not sure if it still works this way, and not sure how it works for Byz...)
@@Nanarachouilla I'm not 100% sure its additive, but I'm pretty sure it is. I think almost all eco bonuses are additive with English being the only exception I can think of (I think, I've also heard that's multiplicative but I've never investigated any of those myself). I think the only reason English is multiplicative is that its a bonus to the farm, not a bonus to villagers.

Not to mention so insanely talented and very generous to share your tips & tricks & passion for the game and new builds. Great guide! If you could also talk a little bit about team games in terms of which units and production buildings to go towards to support teammates and counter the opposition. I get a feeling it is probably javelin throwers instead of longbows but just curious what your thoughts are
I think this build order would be easier to learn from if you did the first 4 minutes straight just explaining the order, and then go back through and do the pauses to explain cisterns placement, etc.
Any new japanese orders / tricks ? I feel like its not really doing good in 1v1's ( or maybe its me, but i tried 2 tc castle rush, simple castle rush with 1 tc, staying in feudal but nothing really works out strong )
I don't get it why this build is so viable and *better* than "playing normal" with going out for food on the map and/or 2 TC. Is it all about the olive oil gather rate that makes it so broken that you can chill in your base on 1 TC and out-macro your opponents???
I don't think it's necessarily better than 2 TC and going out on the map. It's mostly that playing in your base is safer than needing to go outside to find deer and what not. Additionally farms only cost 60 wood and they give you olive oil! Yeah it's very strong. English is a Strong counter
ive found it really difficult to defend against hre or english going MAA in feudal. With the horsemen + longbow contract, I find it v.difficult to defend until I can make xbows/ VGs in castle.
Archer dont do lots of dmg against maa but can kite them infinitly. If you mass enough archers and dont die to stupid death maa wont ever reach ur archers
so true. Triumph is so badass. I have been gathering 250 gold before moving away from gold in order to be able to afford expilatores immediately upon feudal. It was pointed out to me that with expilatores (+2 to horseman damage vs. villagers) buff and triumph activated, it takes only four hits of a horseman to kill a villager.. So, two horsemen will kill a single villager with only two attacks. If the opponent doesn't react immediately, they will lose two if not three (if they're running back to their TC).
@@rockgobbler that is correct! You will have fewer mercenary troops, but if you're willing to micro the horses, you can do more damage. It is risky, though.
@@eljouser yeah, it's definitely a gamble. It feels awesome when you get a couple villager kills, though; expilatores basically paid for itself at that point
This is really broken. Now when Byzantine unlock level 2 cistern, it will have a eco as good as Abbasid, on top of which it has mercenary hired with oil, and it can grow further. In another word, Byzantine has one of the best basic income plus oil, this eco is just insane. What was once painful for Byzantine is the first mercenary squad arriving too late to be helpful before Byzantine player dies to early aggression, but this is no longer a problem since the last patch buffs them arrival timing, then we start to witness how op Byzantine's eco is. I'm expecting Byzantine nerfed, pretty much roll back the cistern to the 5% initial status and it will be more fair.

Rush as fast as possible with longbows and take out the opponent before the game even begins. Just seems hilarious that's their only use and if it doesnt work immediately tap out. Doesnt seem that different from when the game first launched.
well now as english you have the option of going King which is like a knight that heals, or longbows super fast. Even if it doesnt work you force him to idle his villagers which means you did a lot of economic damage. Also for most people english is quick to learn ( easy straightforward build).

- Gold + sheep
- Berries + wood
- Farm by TC + Mining camp on Gold + House next to camp
- Upgrade house eventually for massive vision gain around base
- Keep house in TC if enemy will dark age rush
- Put just outside TC if enemy does not dark age rush
- 3 villagers on gold
- 4 villagers on food
- Age II - Feudal Age - **Grand Winery**
- 4 villagers building, then onto berries
- Move 3 from sheep to berries
- Set TC rally onto wood until 10 villagers
- First economy upgrades
- Switch to Dialecticus on cisterns for faster research
- Wheelbarrow on Winery
- Double broad-axe on Lumber
- Second cistern
- Put in influence of more resources
- Stable + Mercenary House + Blacksmith
- Walls + Farms with wood
- Merc Contracts
- Longbow then Landsknecht
- Javelins instead against English
