Honeslty, its not that bad of a take. It's not unreasonable to say you want a guy that cant grip the ball in the rain. Still love purdy though, but he has some flaws that would keep me from paying him 50m a year
I didn't see him have any problem gripping the ball in the last game in the rain. He played four years at Iowa St. How many games f=did he play in the rain?
I think commentators forget how the market has changed in the last couple of years, and don’t update their expectations. “Not interested in 50” is dumb given Tua, Lawrence, Hurts etc etc etc last couple of years. As for “30m”??? - that’s crazy. Only thing stopping him from 2 Super Bowl appearances is probably the injury year one.
BG, If Purdy had a offensive line that rates in high teens and lower. Purdy will destroy defense's with a little tome in the pocket. And his mobility running, he will be awsome
I half way agree with both takes. I hate comparing Darnold and Purdy as well they aren’t anywhere close to the same situation, but Purdy 100% is a IF guy. If the talent is around him and the defense plays lights out and the weather is good he’s amazing. But when it rains or snows he’s below average, without cmc and aiyuk he’s just okay, when the defense gives up more than 20 we probably lose. So I agree half way with both takes. 55 million and Brock Purdy having a season like this again will get John and Kyle fired.
I have a problem for your reasoning with giving Brock his big payday. You brought up Trevor Lawrence and made that an example as to why Brock should get paid. We can both agree Trent baalke jumped the gun on Trevor, and so far that contract has looked incredibly stupid in the jags side. So we can see, that was a mistake. Why the hell would the 49ers want to do that? You think John lynch is gonna go “oh yes my predecessor, who is now in Jacksonville is an idiot, let me just do exactly what he did and sign an unproven young qb who isn’t considered elite to a massive long term contract, and be JUST as stupid as the last guy who was here.” No bro, the idea that the 49ers would give Brock a big contract just because other teams were stupid and gave their mediocre QBs big money, is a frankly dumb argument.
This isn't about Sam Darnold. The point is you can't pay a QB 50 million plus if they aren't the type of player that can carry a team. There are 4-5 QBs that are worth that kind of money. But because they are so good, they have driven up the contracts for all the QBs. Overpaying Cousins, Prescott, Tua, and players in that second and third QB tier will deplete the rest of your team and winning will be impossible. If the Niners pay Purdy 50 million plus, they are done. They would be better off doing what the Vikings did and drafting a QB again, and pay a bridge QB 10 million and hope one of them works out. Or maybe both. If you can get Purdy for 30 million, I would consider keeping him. Anything more and your team is just playing for the entertainment value of the organization, not winning a SB.
Brock still has a higher qbr this season... 350 passing yards less with this offense... Like a 10 yard difference on average yards a game this season.... And purdy has like >5 bad games in his career, sam darnold has entire bad seasons....
Vikings have 5th best pass blocking left tackle and best pass blocking right tackle in the NFL… do we really think if Darnold had the Niners O-line he’d have any kind of half-decent season?!?!
Nope. Darrisaw is out for the season & pass protection for the Vikings has been atrocious, especially since CD’s injury. It’s one of the few weaknesses the Vikings have had this season. It’s the biggest area of need in the coming draft.
Sam Darnold is just lucky JJ McCarthy got injured or else a rookie QB would've been starting over Sam Darnold after he got benched AGAIN during their training camp, Sam Darnold is literally QB2 for the Vikings and everyone is talking about him as if he's QB1 on that team LMAO 🤦🏽♂️🤣
SD has a lower QBR than Purdy while having better talent and better defense. Brock has done more in 2 years than SD has done his whole career. But hey lets forget what SD did his whole 6 years, which was play abysmal football.
I could only think of what I would do in Brock’s situation and we will see how it plays out. I’d take 35/40 mil a year guaranteed because NFL contracts are tricky AF. 1) you’re still making more money than most NFL players and 99% of America. 2) your money is guaranteed. 3) they can build a bad ass team around you, and you’d get more wins and be able to resign again with a better record still making bank. 35/40 mil over 10 years is way better than 50 mill for 3 years and then the team moving on from you because your record wasn’t as good no one else signing you and you becoming a back up which will happen with Dak and Trevor.
I like Purdy but I don't hear anything Edelman said that was wrong? He said Purdy is playing like a $30-40 mil QB this year, not a $50-60 mil QB, because Purdy hasn't elevated his or anyone elses game this year and its just excuse after excuse as to why he is having a down year. Is he wrong? The Darnold comparisons are a little wierd, but look at Josh Allens weapons, and the dude is the MVP, Purdy should be having a better season if he wants $55mil+. I wouldn't offer him more than 5 years at $40 mil per year this offseason, if he doesnt take it make him play his last year on the rookie contract and prove himself another year.
The Niners are putting this out there to get a leg up on Purdy. "Hey Brock. Take this low ball offer. Dont like it? We could bring Darnold in for less than that."
You're kind of making their point. They're saying you don't pay 50 or 60 million dollars to a quarterback when everything has to be perfect around him to succeed it may be better to take Sam at a discounted rate than it is to pay Purdy top dollar
brad is a hardcore 49er fan and biased you can tell everyone else knows brock isnt that good and relys on the system he isnt a brady or allen or mahomes and never will be
He's protecting Tom, Patriots better be scared. Once they fix corruption in money the sport will become better more honest and a great teams will prevail
Seems to me that Purdy is a great QB but he needs tools around him that will cost money. He needs to be humble in this negotiation if he wants to win Super Bowl
His best weapons this season were JJ and Kittle, neither of which were huge money contracts. He’s played well enough for us to be 9-5 right now, with 3 losses coming from terrible special teams and defensive meltdowns. The margins in this game are so thin, but when it doesn’t go right everybody points to the QB. Purdy is good enough to get paid big AND help lead us to the next SB win
@ good perspective, I just think Purdy is going to wind up needing to be humble about this like Brady and Mahomes both were and those guys keep winning. Would love to see Purdy not go for the maximum.
Wrs are last in separation. That means every other qb has a bigger target than him. Darnold has a bigger target with Justin Jefferson, and addision. He not only doesn't have weapons. He has the worst weapons.
i think colin cowherd and julian edelman forget one thing. Tom Brady was picked in the 6th Round and 199th overall.. And they both think Brock isnt good oh let time go on and prove them wrong Brock :) i rather brock than any quaterback in the nfl as no 1 for the 49ers right now
8:48 nope but that's why they shouldn't have got the money. Nfl needs to have to team cap and position cap, then the BEST PLAYERS will get the max and money goes elsewhere
The problem with the comparison is that the Niners wide receivers are overrated and Vikings have the Best WR today. Brock and Niner WR’s are better under Shanahan than they would be with most other coaches.
If one has followed the 9er system since Bill Walsh developed it while at Stanford one would know that YEAH it’s a qb friendly system. That’s not even debatable. His system made mediocre qb’s with weak arms look like all pros both at Stanford and the NFL. The truly great qb’s can elevate that system the way Joe and Steve elevated that system. Qb’s like those guys add juice to the system. In my opinion, a qb with Sam’s physical talents could elevate that system in ways Purdy cannot.
How funny would it be to all the haters, if Brock pulls a Tom Brady and opts to take less money so the Niners can get players around him, and says "lets go win championships".
So the reason Darnold is doing good is that his team is perfect and the only time Purdy played good was when his team was perfect 😂 you solved your own question bud
This is so ridiculous that Purdy is even being compared to someone who's had 3/4 of 1 good season. Look how far Purdy has lead the Niners. Darnold, not even close and will probably get bounced from the playoffs in their 1st game (Like Minn always does. What does Edelman know???? If he knew anything about that part of football he would be on some teams front office staff, Instead he's just another former athlete trying to actually stay relevant.
It is crazy how quick and far people can go from hyping to trashing. But it's Colin Cowherd, a certified Purdy basher, no matter how he said that he "loved Purdy". And Edelman forgot that his boy TB12 came into the league as a 6th round draft pick with his own set of limitations. On the criticism, there is arguably some truth to the premise on Purdy's limitations, but they can be improved on with training and game experience. He is not a finished product yet and growth does not always move in a constant uptrend. Let the management evaluate all the factors and I trust they will make an educated assessment coming into the negotiation table.
1:25 much more sophisticated? Come on. Trevor Lawrence, Trey lance. Seems like some people in the comments are mentally dumb? There’s multiple QBS that are getting paid big money who hasn’t even sniffed a playoff win let alone a nfc championship/AFC championship or SB. Brock is worth the money but hope he takes less to get better players.
Make it make sense: Darnold has all these weapons and in a great situation and it’s not all that that is making him look good, but with Brock in the same situation and it’s his weapons and situation that is making him look good. These clowns on the tele and radios are idiots.
The market for QBs is the market. You can’t tell a guy he’s worth half what other QBs are getting with way fewer results. Acting like Brock deserves marginally more what they paid Jimmy G about 7 years ago is an absolute insult and it makes you look like a clown. Also, it’s not like your APY is your cap hit. BA is at $30 million APY but his cap hit this year is under $6 million, and his cap hit next year will still be below his cap hit on the 5th year of his rookie deal.
Whats funny, they say he struggles in wet weather, umm so did Stafford, he didn't look good at all then they proceed to say one of the best. WE WOULD have won that game if Deebo cathes that 1 ball.
Bricks been to a Superbowl Allen hasn't been there, and if it's a system type thing then Mullins, beatherd, Lance.would have all been greatest QBs ever
What did he exactly say that was weird? I swear you guys want to sign a QB for big money that is not elite and his best seasons may have already passed him by.
You can't put all of the blame on Brock when half of his team is hurt. If it was anyone else we wouldn't be hearing about it. As far as Brock's play he has had two bad games. I'm not talking about games lost i'm talking about all games. Ever since Brock started playing all you can do put him down.
Sam Darnold is Brock Purdy with an arm.. Trey Lance given a chance under a real coach like Harbaugh or Mike Tomlin he would have been better than them both.. I see why Shanahan got Trey Lance out of the mix because it would have been an easy fix and they want the quarterback distractions here .. Hang it up 49ers fans the 49ers quarterback curse continues..😂
Took them to a superbowl on a less than a mil salary. No one is gonna thrive in this offense. Unfortunately the coach has to get better. If u can't beat the chiefs with all the talent u need and can't seal the deal with decisions in the 4th quarter thats a big problem. The coach has to get better and invest in an o line. Every chance we had was given up by the o line. Jimmy and Donald. Purdy and Reddick. Now purdy and Jones. Lack of protection lack of progress

Honeslty, its not that bad of a take. It's not unreasonable to say you want a guy that cant grip the ball in the rain. Still love purdy though, but he has some flaws that would keep me from paying him 50m a year
@@DillGibran would you really pay Sam Darnold $50M/yr?
@@strawberryreacts9585 i would not.
@@DillGibran at least we can agree on something
I didn't see him have any problem gripping the ball in the last game in the rain. He played four years at Iowa St. How many games f=did he play in the rain?
Julian Edelman should see a doctor, showing severe signs of CTE with that hot take
Edelman and like his Coach no one without that 6th round pick Brady throwing the ball
Edelman seems about as smart as Grok.
Why worry about what Colin Cowherd say😂😂
Joe Montana was not picked until the 3rd round and what happened to him :) He became the best and goat of Quarterbacks for all time :)
Darnold is in his 8th season, and it took him this look to put up the numbers Purdy is putting up.
Let's not worry about what Cowherd says about anything.
Remember what Kyler Murray looked like without players around him? I do.
Kirk Cousins also looked pretty good on that Vikings team lol
How about 40 and some incentives. Brock still needs great players, and bad weather not so good.
adam😭 what happened😭
Darnold learned from Purdy lol
No he learned from Shanahan while teaching Purdy that's what a vet back up is for...
@@tayk4784are you stupid darnold said it himself he stood behind and learned from Purdy
@@tayk4784 Darnold himself in interviews has attributed Purdy for showing him how to prepare for games.
@@tayk4784 Where do you get that? Darnold said he learned from Purdy.
I heard it on interviews too
Why are they being compared???? Purdy is WAYYYYY better than darnold
Tired of recency bias about wet weather play for Brock. Two of his best games were in the rain. 22 playoffs vs Seahawks and 23 playoffs vs packers
BG,
If Purdy had a offensive line that rates in high teens and lower.
You think John lynch is gonna go “oh yes my predecessor, who is now in Jacksonville is an idiot, let me just do exactly what he did and sign an unproven young qb who isn’t considered elite to a massive long term contract, and be JUST as stupid as the last guy who was here.”
No bro, the idea that the 49ers would give Brock a big contract just because other teams were stupid and gave their mediocre QBs big money, is a frankly dumb argument.
BG,
Brock Purdys QBR is 7th in the league among QBs
The only valid QB statistic is draft position.
Mason, just like Kyle, you forgot Mason. 😂😂😂
Well to be fair Julian is also saying that Sam isn't a 50 million dollar guy and you wouldn't have to pay him elite money I think that was point.
They're saying you don't pay 50 or 60 million dollars to a quarterback when everything has to be perfect around him to succeed it may be better to take Sam at a discounted rate than it is to pay Purdy top dollar
brad is a hardcore 49er fan and biased you can tell everyone else knows brock isnt that good and relys on the system he isnt a brady or allen or mahomes and never will be
When do people compare JJ to BA or Deebo?
Dudes have no clue what they’re blabbing out of their mouth
I wouldn’t want Darnold on my team unless I had his WR as well
He's protecting Tom, Patriots better be scared.
Let's be real. The Vikings are good because they have better coaching, and their WR1 is worth three WRs.
Brock would have the Vikings #1 in the NFC power rankings. We would be stupid to lose Brock. An under 20% cap would be good deal for the niners
What about players that drop catches that are placed right in their hands 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
I now believe will never get a fair shake. The 49ers brought in Sam Darnold, but he couldn't beat out Brock.
i think colin cowherd and julian edelman forget one thing.
Sam Donald's never been on a NFL team from week 1 to week 18 that made it to the Superbowl EXCEPT his year as a back up to Brock. PURDY.
Everyone is just stuck on where he was drafted.
How funny would it be to all the haters, if Brock pulls a Tom Brady and opts to take less money so the Niners can get players around him, and says "lets go win championships".
Why do people assume Darnold is getting less than $40+ AAV?
Purdy and sam are the same. Soround them with talent and they win.
Still dealing with stupid ass tired draftism/bias.
Sports talk is always crazy, always looking for content. Purdy’s contract is just one more topic to garner clicks.
Id take half and set myself up for success and endorsements. 60 million is destined failure
Whats funny, they say he struggles in wet weather, umm so did Stafford, he didn't look good at all then they proceed to say one of the best. WE WOULD have won that game if Deebo cathes that 1 ball.
Brock is having a down year and all these talking heads smell blood in the water and make their stupid takes so they can get clicks.
Bricks been to a Superbowl Allen hasn't been there, and if it's a system type thing then Mullins, beatherd, Lance.would have all been greatest QBs ever
They made good points but the comparison to Sam Darnold is off base. Two different situations
Those are literally not the “ifs” that limit Brock. This is beyond stupid.
Then how come he’s a back up still? Your dumb
Pay the young man. If you don't like it piss off and go root for a different team.
You know Sam is only as good as the talent he has. That is what I heard about Purdy till this year. Your saying Brock should at least get 50 million. What if he wants more would you pay it? I wouldn't not right now let him play out his contract then we'll see.
Jordan Mason had a great year until he got hurt 750 yards 6 or 7 touchdowns Brock Purdy had 3 no touchdowns games
This is a psyop / social test on the 49ers. As someone who became a 49ers fan because of Brock, I would love nothing more than thr 49ers being dumb enough to let him walk to either the Giants or jets.
Why don't you like Purdy?
@ I love him, just said he’s why I became a 49ers fan, but clearly the media for some odd reason really doesn’t want the 49ers to resign him
Grant Cohn is also at fault! He’s a hater and it pisses me off
