This is a great set. The same people complain about every set that comes out. Unless they spend 200$ with a resell value of $2000 they’re complaining. Like you said you can’t just pull the top 5 guys auto’s all the time lol Couple notable mentions not in the product Ron Francis, Kevin Stevens, Bure, mogilny to make a few.
Gotta say, I appreciate you defending this product. I find a lot of value in the true history of the game. What a gem product to break the monotony of chasing young guns and possibilities, for players who have contributed so much.
This is a great set for people who enjoy the history of the game! I got into hockey late, and I watched a ton of the vintage content that's out there, and Roadrunner was my favorite player to watch from that old stuff. It's awesome to get autos from players that don't have autos in anything else! I liked that in Chronology too.
Great Moose! As an FYI, the difference between the gold foils and the gold autos, the gold foils have a flat gold foil. The gold autos have a gold rainbow foil. That's the easiest way to tell right away which it is before revealing the middle of the card. #dryden
I see they are doing Parkhurst Champions again for 2022-23. That will be a must as well. Love seeing these old guys. Seeing some names even I don’t recognize and I’ve been watching since I was born back in ‘80. That’s fun for me. I can’t afford $300 these days, but love watching the breaks.
Hell yeah, that was a sweet pull. This product is so awesome, I remember the depth players and your right about their importance. Sensational video and jam!
Hawerchuck also recently passed away, I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of this series, I agree for a lot of people cards are about what they can get on the secondary market ...#dryden
I don't open many new products, but had to get 2 boxes of this one for the same reasons you love it. Somehow got 4 autos in one of the boxes. Highlights in the boxes were 2 Bernie Nicholls autos (future watch and decagons) and a Bobby Clarke acetate future watch. I really like the evolve and the canvas cards. Got a Scott Hannan (another forgotten player, at least outside SJ) canvas auto, would love to get an auto version of e.g. the Jagr canvas that I got.
#dryden I love seeing all of the depth of players in this set as well. Opening a box would be so much fun. I would have loved to see an Anson Carter on that checklist.
It's sad to see how few players get love in the hobby. Guys like Milan Hejduk, Adam Deadmarsh, Daniel Brier, Miroslav Satan, even guys like Darren McCarty. All names you don't even hear in the hobby but were hugely important pieces of the teams they played on. Same goes for most of the names on this wishlist. But then again, it's PAINFULLY obvious that a lot of card collectors don't actually watch hockey.
I swear, back in the early 2000's almost all the Mark Messier autographs were redemptions. I got two of them in 2000-01 NHL Legends a few years ago. This led me to purchase one on the secondary market, which is something that I rarely do. Fun fact, the picture on the punched redemption card isn't the same as the actual Epic Signature card. Anyways, congrats on the awesome pull my good man. That's a very good start!
Fantastic video like always and great break. You are the first person I see get great autographed cards. I saw a guy open a case the best auto was of Bobby Clarke and Willie O’Ree
What a nice auto! Unbelievable, I've seen a joe Sakic canvas auto and yours. I'm really loving these boxes. Only thing is that you could hit 3 really low end autos
I know after I’m done watching all of your box openings of this it’s gonna make me want to buy a box of this stuff, brings back a lot of memories from when I used to open cards in the 90s and seeing all these guys, it would be fun just to see a bunch of them in a box, a couple years ago there was a great documentary on Nyland on Netflix, don’t know where it is now forgot what the title is but it was really good.
I think you oughta keep hammering home how this product fits your identity as a collector. It's nice to hear names of the players who didn't get enough "hobby love" because they were eclipsed by others who had the stats. #dryden
I agree 100% with your argument here Fultoncards. I enjoy seeing alot of these past names. Im going to track down some of the base cards that depict my Jets! I went to a card show awhile back walking past tons of McDavids and big $ stuff, i left happy carrying a small stack of cards in which the biggest name was maybe Gary Suitcase Smith! I prefer to find enjoyment the collecting hobby as opposed to flipping and investing. Great first two boxes, two HOF hits, hoping your luck continues! #dryden
Great box. I definitely agree with you about the negative comments of this product. I saw someone pull a Momesso auto I couldn't understand why the comments were so negative about it. The vast majority of my collection is all of these types of players. The super stars in the game are absolutely amazing but it is the 3rd and 4th line guys that every team needs. This personally is an absolutely fantastic set as far as I'm concerned and there really isn't anyone on the checklist I wouldn't be over joked to have. Great video! #Dryden
The design of the base cards is very boring but the inserts are awesome. Agree 100% with your initial rant and the fact that somehow Marcel Dionne gets lost when discussing the history of the game.
Great break Fulton! Ripped my one box I ordered yesterday and pulled an EVOLVE Mike Modano Insert on card auto /35! One of my biggest pulls ever such a bang for your buck great product! Can’t wait to see the rest of your case #dryden
The Moose card nice pull! I'm amazed at the resentment Canuk fans have with Messier. When his face was flashed on the screen many booed like I've seen no other even when his ads would come on at a heritage classic game I watched. I know he was onboard with Keenan made some unpopular moves like shipping Linden. In the Rogers rink there is a place for all the photos of the former captains. If you ever go there try to find Messiers they hid it where its obvious that it was done on purpose. Regardless remarkable player with the Oilers and Rangers. #Dryden
Awesome Moose auto in that one. Yesterday I watched SinBin's channel crack a box and he pulled an Signed Evolve of Marcel Dionne, I think it was numbered to 49 but I may be off on that. Have a great day. #DRYDEN
Large percentage now are just trying to flip cards. Fortunately for collectors like us products like this are affordable. This product contains the only autos for some of the players. BTW, Marcel Dionne had a card store/diner in Niagara Falls that he closed during the pandemic. He was always there the times I visited the Falls. Nice friendly guy. #DRYDEN
Perhaps Legends was wrong name for the series, Alumni would've been more fitting...but without the Biz Nastys and Ben Lovejoys etc, the box would be 1000 dollars instead of 300. Those grinders are what make it affordable!
It's one of my favorite things about the product. They have ppl in jerseys they wore for like 5mins. They even have Bobby Hull as a Whale. He played all of nine games for them.
I’m learning about the history of hockey, because I didn’t start following the game until the 90’s. This product is great and I appreciate you stating something about a player that you remember from the past. Looking forward to all the box breaks of this product. I’m reading books about the past. Currently reading “The Boys of Winter”. Awesome Messier auto hit. #Dryden
I recommend Ken Dryden's The Game, and not just because it's Dryden. Many regard it as the definitive hockey book. He brings you right into the locker room during the Habs' 70s Cup dynasty. And he is an unbelievable writer -- and thinker.
I couldn't agree more ! I've been waiting soooo long for a set full of depth and history like ITG Franchises was! I'll really enjoy watching your case break :) Reaaally nice Messier indeed... #Dryden
I don't mind the checklist of non superstar players. I think it's the price point that bothers me. I wanted to like it and jumped into a break, but immediately discovered I had zero chance of getting any money back. That's on me for diving in before studying the checklist.
Ya Ernie. I even got busted in a break because I did study the checklist, but there was an error on it, in terms of how they calculated the composite group odds. We have to be very diligent. But, usually there are some bargain spots, based on the homework.
Messier is one that I hunt, but seeing him in a Canucks jersey makes my stomach turn. Lol I love this product more and more with every box I see. #Dryden
Haha. This is why I compare the product to ITG Franchises. It's actually really cool! They consciously put players in more novel jerseys. Like Bobby Hull only played nine games for the Whalers, yet they have him in that jersey. I mean the fact that they have Gretzky coaching the Coyotes is ridiculous in a good way.
Thank you!!! I don’t collect to re-sell, I collect to find the rare and unique stuff, which this product has moreso than most. There is so much emphasis on dollar value that people forget that it’s supposed to be fun to rip a pack and see what you get. #Dryden
Wow sick hit on Mess and great idea to buy a case. I wish I bought more than 1 box, as my box I only got one auto and felt kinda ripped off lol. #DRYDEN
Ya but brother. Box prices have no relation to card resale value. It's just supply/demand. If old guard like me love the product due to the rare (valueless) alums, distributors will price accordingly. Boxes will deplete, and the prices will go up not down. I replied to another comment on this thread in more detail, noting that ppl pay for a box break experience not card values. If this were not the case, no one would break boxes, as the stated odds - and thus value - are dismal. Ppl would buy solely off eBay with 100% certainty at their chosen price point.
The problem with this product is there's no guaranteed numbered auto like the regular SPA. So when people saw the checklist, they thought you should at least get one of these in a box (and while not all are great players, most are somewhat desirable) Price went up like crazy.. Now you pay $300 for an auto of 2 players than on any other set, which would be a $5. Your examples at the end of the video are all good players and would be nice hits. I also watched Hockey in the 80s and know most of the 70s and up players.. The problem is getting Mark Osborne and Rick Vaive auto for $300. And 6-7 of the 8 boxes in a case will be like that. Your unnumbered Messier is GREAT but might be the case hit. Not sure how one would feel about that in a $2400 case. It's an over-diluted product that could have been very good but is just a cash grab once again. I really wish you luck with the rest of the case, but from what I have seen so far, you might have got the best card already...
A few quick-ish points. First, I for one have never, ever seen a link between sticker prices and secondary market value. That is a crazy misnomer. That link only exists nominally initially upon release as ppl overpay on eBay to make up for overpaying for the box and not hitting much. They overpay for the auto they didn't hit in their box. Over time, the luster of the product diminishes as ppl chase the next releases, and thus newer products, novelties and technologies. Newer rookies. What ppl are paying for in a box break is an *experience* on dismal gambling odds. It is the gamification of the hobby. Boxes quarter or more upon break, maybe even reduced to 15%. So, they are a sunk cost like a ticket for a game. We remember the game not the price of the ticket, or the amount of $12 beer we bought. (Also note, a Brad Marchand FWA is a $250 card, even though he is one of the Top 5 hits of 09/10. Yet those boxes are $400. What do most ppl hit? Not one of the Top 5 FWA.) Two, these are legend FWA. They can't be #/999, as they would just flood eBay and have zero uniqueness appeal. This is not SPA. It is a Chronology type product. What you do get guaranteed per box on avg is one SP auto, whether a die-cut, FWA, insert auto, Canvas Legends auto, '97 Legends auto, etc. These insert autos can be better hits than the FWAs. Three, #'d cards are a gimmick. This is in fact the new 1990s, and UD is just printing money. Across products, #'d cards are in the tens of thousands. A SP grouping auto often is lower #'d than a #/999 FWA. For instance, there is no way on earth, whether a Group A or a Group B, that an insert Gordie Howe Auto is more than #/100. So a non #'d Howe Decagon or Jagr Canvas auto is obviously a better hit than a Ray Ferraro FWA #/199. Lastly, you know what defines box price? Demand. Full stop. And what defines demand? Endorphin rushes due to social media, gambling directed even at children and certainly on our sports broadcasts, group breaks, and mainstream UA-cam channels that monetize themselves by focusing on card values and entertainment. ...Which is why I have this little channel. To push back, focus on sentiment, and educate ppl. My point - again - is boxes are a sunk cost due to all these forces. This is why I explain odds not card values. Who cares even if a mainstream breaker hit a $1,000 card in his box, if his budget for the years is $50K? It is a loss. The reason he is making money is he gets views. Box prices relate to his viewers, not card values. If you really want to invest, buy real estate near transportation. Flipping cards is penny stock trading. High risk, low reward.
This is a great set. The same people complain about every set that comes out. Unless they spend 200$ with a resell value of $2000 they’re complaining. Like you said you can’t just pull the top 5 guys auto’s all the time lol
Couple notable mentions not in the product Ron Francis, Kevin Stevens, Bure, mogilny to make a few.
I feel like Mogilny is pretty elusive in the hobby overall. If I remember, he was completely absent in the Maple Leafs Centennial checklist.
Gotta say, I appreciate you defending this product. I find a lot of value in the true history of the game. What a gem product to break the monotony of chasing young guns and possibilities, for players who have contributed so much.

Might be the best bang for your buck in a case from the last couple of years Fulton!
Absolutely love checklists like these; adored the Fleer Throwbacks set 20 years ago. Glad you're enjoying the breaks so much! #dryden
Figured this would be a popular set for the channel. Loving all the Rod Brind’Amour cards and him as a coach. Also the Weekes canvas is so sweet.
This is for true hockey fans .great memories of players.

Ty for the depth of your analysis and backstory on why this product is lovely. I share the exact same sentiments
I love this product the nostalgia
This product is right up your alley!
First case on the channel?? If so, its fitting.
Great break! Love the lesser hyped players with great memorable careers. Awesome stuff! #dryden
Fantastic video like always and great break. You are the first person I see get great autographed cards. I saw a guy open a case the best auto was of Bobby Clarke and Willie O’Ree
A few more Marty St. Louis for me to go after…his Evolve card is amazing… I wish they would have had him as a coach on the very end of the card
I really like the Canvas photos in this product

I haven't seen it. Is it "The Last Gladiators"? I still listen to him on the radio when I'm in Montreal.
yes, that might be it, I might need to go back and rewatch that since it’s still on Netflix. I remember it being really good.
Dammm straight brother!! Sweet rip n' pulls dude and a great start to your inner case. Chi-Miigwech, ni-wiijiiwaagan!! #DRYDEN

That Patrick Roy canvas wow , am jealous 😅
Really nice product and glad it’s not just the typical legends we always see #dryden
Two great looking autos!! I am really liking this set. Thanks for sharing #dryden
Love seeing these depth guys, especially for collectors who may not see particular players pop up often. The Moose auto is a definite win #dryden

Wow Yvan roadrunner /99 woow how awesome
If you don't know who Yvan Cournoyer is, it tells more of your knowledge of hockey history than from this set.
Perhaps Legends was wrong name for the series, Alumni would've been more fitting...but without the Biz Nastys and Ben Lovejoys etc, the box would be 1000 dollars instead of 300. Those grinders are what make it affordable!

Ya Ernie. I even got busted in a break because I did study the checklist, but there was an error on it, in terms of how they calculated the composite group odds. We have to be very diligent. But, usually there are some bargain spots, based on the homework.
