Zeeree, brother. I get your perspective, but this is my thing. So perhaps you might hear me out, as it's important. You've been selling SPA more aggressively than any influencer, to the detriment of two dozen other (often more appealing and unique) products, including non-licensed alternatives. Harder than UD itself, I’d venture. Which is where your heart is, mindful it is what you collect, and a bit circular. I get that, as I sell SP Legends. But note that I personally believe in democratizing the hobby, *not* herding, which strips individuals of their own personal preferences and market influence. In tandem, the hobby (it's no longer a hobby; it's now gaming/gambling) has exploded. This explosion is only partially explained by the pandemic, but relates more to technology, social media, gambling culture, group break middle men, FOMO, and disposable income due to q-infinity economic liquidity. With outside money and newbies being ushered into SPA and solely collecting YGs, FWAs, OPCP, and Cup RPAs, what will logically happen to checklists and box prices? What has happened to The Cup? Seriously, you tell me how many Kaprizov and Lafreniere RPAs are on The Cup sub-checklists? Lafreniere appears like, what, 55+ times? KK 40? Multiply that by print runs and parallel runs. And still, Cup boxes were $1,600 CAD? Lafreniere has 47 career goals! That’s only 47 more than you. Influencers (not me) said Cup prices would even go up more post-release, so scoop up boxes when ppl could more easily buy a Kaprizov directly on eBay for less than box prices, with 100% mathematical certainty. Of course, box prices would have to come down eventually, based on the checklist math. But why were people paying $1,600 CAD for boxes and $600 for group break spots? Whatever it was... was not reasoned. It was manic behaviour. Behaviour sets checklist lengths and sticker prices. You still with me? That's just context. I say all this to put the question squarely to you. SPA has always been the best product to your mind (yes, it bores me to tears). What exactly did you think would happen to the product post-McDavid and in lead into Bedard? Did you think the box prices would go up, come down, or stay the same? Given this, did you think SPA checklists would lengthen, shorten, or stay the same? If case production runs stay the same, how much would a box cost with multi-factor increased demand, with all the hype, money, and gambling? Group break margins. How quickly would cases deplete, all things the same, as Bedard enters the fray? And, what exactly would UD do to *exploit* the opportunity to print money for themselves by simply printing more cards. What are they in the business of doing at all-time market highs, hype, and hockey talent? It's exactly the very same dynamic as the 1990s and the Lindros boom and bust. And, I'm not even addressing the fact that this new version of SPA in fact is *more* like the original releases of SPA (not less), compared to these very recent years that you fell in love with. I personally have always believed that if the hobby and actual tastes are democratized across all products (not influenced by the proclivities of influencers and penny stock investors du-jour) that prices will remain reasonable. More people, more products, reasonable checklists. But, if this is not the case, of course card companies will print money vis-a-vis their “can’t lose” flagships, and appeal to a broader range of tastes by watering down cards. Distributors might control supply, but not card companies. Executives at card companies solely focus on bottom line targets. That’s why they are in business. With more demand comes more supply. And cards that spike on the secondary market will correct, as all stocks do after parabolic moves. It's just the basics of a market economy. Unless you explain these dynamics in detail, and provide more context, I am not sure I follow your underlying point. So we need to think about what we want more. The ability to play or the inability to pay. The choice is ours at the end of the day. The rest is predictable economics, that we must bake in.
Just because you know the odds doesn't negate the fact that it is still gambling. You buy breaks on GP sports all the time. Yet, you still have the nerve to sit here and talk about breakers/gambling being bad for the hobby????
100%.... Upper Deck doesn't listen and they get complaints. Upper Deck does listen and they get complaints. I would double the price of my products too, if they kept selling well but I had to deal with twice as many complaints....
@@nathandowns1359 It's definitely not easy to create a desirable RC, and I'm fine with only FWAs, but the retro ones need to go. Just give 2 guaranteed true FWA, with a chance at a 3rd bonus auto.
Trilogy is on its way, a case break of that could be a fun one. Especially after it was cancelled and boxes seem relatively cheap in comparison to a lot of others.
With the prices UD is charging for this crap, you have a right to voice your opinion, even if you are mostly frustrated. YourSPA breaks used to be a ton of fun to watch cause you loved breaking SPA so much.still love your breaks, just wish you were still having as much fun with them.
Upper Deck is playing with fire. They had a good thing going with mostly all of their hockey products. Now with watering them all down, aggressively increasing prices, and poor quality control, I think people are slowing down with purchases. I haven't bought a box or pack of anything in a long while based on this. I'd love to see their sales numbers over the last 5 years.
and the customers have no choice since ud is the only company that has the rights to print nhl hockey cards with the teams on them, others make only player cards
Great break Z. Honestly man, your rant on this product is valid. They've ruined this product with all the added throwback FWA's. Spend that 4 grand on the set rather than the mastercase. You'd probaby be able to more or less complete the set down the line (when the prices drop even more). Then again, the case break would be awesome for your channel.
In referencing Bedard, for those that were into the McDavid chase from the beginning onwards what was the price action on the boxes? Did they start really high and go down a bit before going up? I recall seeing breaks where collectors mentioned they got blasters with the McDavid rookie on sale for a low price. Trying to figure out what we can expect.
During the pandemic I got in the hobby and found your channel. This has been the me of the best channels I have ever seen. Unfortunately hobby is too expensive and to get a decent card or box cost too much now. I will be taking a break but hope to watch your video again one day when I can afford to get back in hobby. Take care sir and keep on doing what you are
You've already talked yourself into buying a case, but I'd really, really like if you saved up and got 2 cases of OPC Platinum next month. It would be so much more rewarding and fun, but then again, who am I to say?!
Heard a lot of hype about this product 2 months ago, I was excited to see what it's all about but after watching hundreds of videos on it , I just don't see the value personally. But that being said Im personally gonna get singles off eBay instead of gambling with hundreds of dollars. But I do understand ppl enjoy ripping, but after a few months into the hobby, I'd rather go buy the cards I like, instead of chasing them. Best of luck on your rips fellas 🤘😎
What is the best recent set of hockey cards? I've bought a few of series 1 and 2, but i want to step it up. It seems like zeeree has soured on a lot of the series though. What do people recommend?
At least I have 2 years to save up, there's only two Blackhawks in the current SPA and then maybe 3-4 in next season's, before I have to drop $300-500 on Bedard Future watch (Maybe more)
Its so hard to justify the prices but it is a fun product to open with the new configuation. I pulled two retro fwa's for my hits which sucked. We all complain, is what it is
I enjoyed SP Legends, but otherwise, I am not really a fan of SP anymore. I'd rather save my money for other stuff, but it's not a bad series, just not one that I'm very interested in. Thanks for the video, keep smiling🏒👍🙂
Love watching your vids. One thing you should open on your channel just for funny bit, should be these dollarama series one cards. They are 1.25$ a pack, and the only inserts are young guns, and the back of the pack states 1/50 odds ! 😂. Would be hilarious to see you open 50 base packs to finally get a nobody young guns 😂 They are official upperdeck series one product. 4 cards per pack.
from an subjective standpoint: I dont mind the inserts. I like the shiny stuff and thats just me. ill buy those cheapie inserts for the pc anyday. from an objective standpoint: you are absolutely right- there is no value added into this product by the inserts, the retro fws bring the value down, and its overpriced and bloated. personally, ive always thought the inserts were lazy and ugly. this year is no different in terms of how they add zero value to the product. its hard to see myself ever buying a box of spa. Idk if I will ever be sold on it. Great vid as usual.
I've been opening alot more topps. Upper deck is a money sink unless you hit one of the top 5 guys. Baseball has a much bigger Market with alot more variety of hits between players.
Preach about the products Zeeree. The interest for hockey cards (and every other collectible) is going down because of economic issues around the world and covid ending, and UD just keeps releasing worse and worse, watered downed products. I feel like they are failing massively with keeping interest and value up.
Can you do a top 10 video on the best-value products? I love the hobby, but I often feel like I'm getting ripped off and it makes me really hesitant to buy more.
Was intrigued by SPA from your videos. I do see the appeal of chasing an FWA over a Young Gun for a particular player. But the number of boxes you need to open for the FWA makes it unreachable for me. And the rest of the set is too boring once you open the auto cards in a particular box. Not my cup of tea but enjoy watching them nevertheless.
This product has been going downhill since 07/08. I completely agree with you, the foil stuff is gimmicky, and the retro future watch autos are a slap in the face. Retro future watch autos are insert autos, not future watch autos.
Go hunting for a Gretzky’s auto. I may be wrong but you have great cards you put up on those card stands, when you crack your wax….lol. But I’ve never seen a Gretzky auto. Just a though.
Although it is tradition to see you open and enjoy a case of SPA, the price and watered down FWAs are not worth it in my opinion. If I had a choice, I say what I always say: open nothing but 2015-16 products bc the hunt for Mcdavid id far better than anything current or what frightening prices for 2023-24 will be.
Really disappointing when a brand takes one of their most loyal collectors and waters down the product so much they question that loyalty. Eg, not wanting to buy a case. Seems obvious that you can save 80% and just buy after-market singles.
Ik it’s for the videos that I love, But I think your nuts for spending$250 Canadian on a box of cards (I’m in Ontario). Someday I will bite the bullet I can feel it..considering I spend 30-40 for the Walmart boxes

Still not sold on this year's SPA. It's honestly disappointing how watered down it is.
Ya the cards do not look good imo
The fwa design is the worst it’s ever been, it’s like they dont give a fuck about making good looking cards anymore.

I love SPA but completely agree, over priced!! Under $200 would bring this product to life. Can't stand those Pageantry cards, what a mess to look at.
Case break of this years OPC. Fun rip, good price and lots of value. 👍
you may not like the direction of this product, but at least you pulled PP GruGru

@@redred222 I can see Fanatics eventually buying them or getting the rights. The NHL is just as greedy lol.
I think you should open a case of SP signature legends. I've seen some really good stuff pulled from cases and it's better value than Spa.
As a Ducks fan, I appreciate all these Ducks pulls.
We love a 2am zeeree upload
Nice! Pulled the P.P. Gru Gru! Never a bad box when you pull him

I'd love see some kinda vintage box break zeeree
I'd love to see a case break of SP Signature Legends
Noooooo! I can't find a set under 290 Canadian! Expensive as is for what should be a set for 180.
Did anyone else notice it said Mason McTavosh? 🤪
MVP in August looks interesting. Matthew Knies should have a card in there and a chase for bedard redemption would be sick!
Those two boxes were really good. And compared to the 16 boxes I opened - an outlier. Significant outlier.
very nice break... agree with you on the overproduction of this product
I completely agree, products are way to watered down and the prices make it not even worth it
I would like to see a case break of 96-97 Black Diamond, 96-97 Upper Deck Ice, or 96-97 Flair.
I’d love to see a SPA case break from you!!

Either get a case of this or do OPC Platinum any year case. 😁

It's a 2022-23 sp authentic
Why was that seider card so bent at the corners lol
Little late, ain’t it?
only a little
why not wait and do a case of platinum?
How many redemptions do you have that are not scratched and redeemed

MEME MVP 2022-23 SUPER SCRIPT BLACK! I haven't seen any pulled or posted for sale anywhere.
Don't make yourself buy a case. If its very unlikely to make profit and its not enjoyable, there is no reason to spend that much. Your call.
So...McTavish's name is spelled wrong in the mock up of that retro future watch auto? Nice job, editors.
I got the Zegras FWA redemption and got the card shipped to me in less then a month. Perfect 10/10 condition
Get a case I’m telling you. The FWAP WILL be a good one.
Do not buy next years product either between the overproduction, super high prices and Bedard will not be as good McDavid.

Upper Deck just lost Zeeree on SPA, that is how bad this product has become. A new low for Upper Deck, well done!

Do a case break of OPC!
Just keep opening random boxes of it, eventually it'll add up to a case

Do a case of SPx?

Joined a few breaks and been getting horrible luck.

and then watch, you'll get a case and get choo-choo trained
Lol every time you wine about something you hit??? Crazy!!! Good for you bto!
By the way... not trolling! Jus saying! Love your content!
Do case break of OPC Platinum again, you got some nice cards last time you did
Oh boy. 1 AM!
