Golden rule planting orange seeds. Don't let them dry after removing from the fruit as the germination rate drops drastically. Best is eat the fruit and spit the pits right into the soil, no fuzzing around with paper towels and peeling. And good luck with your MANDARINES and not Oranges..
A trial was done to see what method is best.Peeling the protective layer off the pips and sprouting them in a wet kitchen towel and ziplock bag - or just planting the pips straight into compost. The best result was just planting the seeds as they are into compost.A lot fail to germintate so its best to do a lot of pips until you get lucky.
Sweet! I learned how to grow a fruit tree AND how to get all that extra white crap off when peeling the fruit! ANYONE have any advice on that? Getting that white stuff (sorry, funny know the real name of it) off with the rind when peeling an orange??? Is very much appreciate a reply. Thank you & God bless. 🙏🏼💙
Two spring seasons have gone by with no success. And finally this year, success! I just saw the sprout this morning. So happy! I placed 5 seeds in a container. I left container outside & covered it with a dark plastic bag. Kept the soil moist and voila! Best of luck to everyone!
Ha.... nobody said if it's outside in the sun or inside just a little sun light I would love to do this with some lemon seeds also.....I did this experiences with some lemon seed and sun flower seeds but the sun flowers grow first and fast.....
The best root stock for citrus fruits is what's called sour orange. In fact we have plenty of it in Iran. We call it Naarenj. It has a very pleasant sour taste and very aromatic. Then all sorts of citrus Fruita are grafted to this. This root stock is quite hardi and grows well. So don't waste your time with tangerines or Satsuma or mandarins. If you want to see pictures of it go to www.hidoctor.ir/20537_%D8%B9%DA%A9%D8%B3-%D9%87%D8%A7%DB%8C-%D9%85%DB%8C%D9%88%D9%87-%DB%8C-%D9%86%D8%A7%D8%B1%D9%86%D8%AC.html/

I didn't know about the low germination rate and planted exactly 1 grapefruit seed, it actually grew into quite a tree by now though 😊
