Willie was the Coolest Cat to ever grace a NYC stage. We first saw him at Max's Kansas City and I was an instant fan. We went back-stage and to my surprise, he asked us in. We talked music and smoked a doobie. When he came to my home state (CT) at Toad's Place New Haven, I remembered that he was drinking "Pink Champagne" back in NY, so I brought him a bottle and sent it to him in his dressing room. I guess he remembered us cuz he told the roadie to fetch us and bring us back. We partied there, and after, in his tour bus, until 4 am. He was the sweetest, most congenial person that you would ever want to meet. He let me play his guitar and even played along on the harmonica for a rendition of "Stand By Me" !! I'll never forget that night. I'll never forget Mink DeVille. RIP Willie you crazy Indian you .. We'll do that "Hashish Thing" we talked about in heaven. ~~~
Unique! He was one the beste performers, very underrated! I personnaly saw him three times in concert, fantastic! But I love this trio, just Willy, the incredible bassplayer (he died just a few weeks ago, in August 2019!) and Willy dies exactly 10 years ago! R.I.P. (I met him 3 times in 30 years, a giant!
