I love professionals like you. One thing I’ve learned about this business is that other photographers aren’t willing to share info. I’m an open book and love to take in new photographers and teach them all I know. I appreciate you sharing so much of your knowledge.
I am not a photographer at all, but I’ve been following you for the past 9 years since I was a freshman in college. I watch your videos and follow your account closely because you and Michael reflect Jesus so beautifully in the marketplace. Thank you so much for this reminder on personalized marketing, I am launching a business soon in social media management! Im excited to put your advice into practice.
That is awesome! Thanks for watching!
An easy way to confirm that, is to read the reviews received from your clients on your social media, it's rarely about the pictures, but the special moment they have taking them with us. Pictures comes always last (obviously it should be great too) 💕
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for uploading! I’m so excited to be watching this!
You're so welcome!
Thank you so much for your professional advice. I never thought about this but you make a very valid point.
You are so welcome!
How have I never seen this channel before. This is so insightful.
Thanks for watching!
Wow Katelyn, this video was so helpful, I wish I could have warched it years ago. Your lovely personality shines through on all your videos and together with your style of photography is inspiring. I am loving getting to know you and agree letting people in makes you so memorable. Thank you for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
Such an incredible video Katelyn! THANK YOU!
Glad you liked it!! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this fantastic video. I have always been concerned about showing the human side of me or my family, but I guess I am completely wrong... showing that I am like any person, just another human being is the key. I have always criticised social media people that post every single detail about their lives, but I am finally grasping the “tribe” concept. Thank you again. My wife and I love your videos. She is a high school teacher and I am lawyer with a small consultancy... nothing to do you photography, but I have a small UA-cam channel and I love photography as a hobby. Anyway, I am just rumbling here, and I apologise. Have a great day. Bye!
Thanks for watching!
Great advice Katelyn! I've been working on this. The most engagement comes from me posting me and sharing myself!
Love that!
The emphasis on letting clients into one’s life is frankly a thunderbolt of information. There it is right in front of us. Thanks. I subscribed on the spot.
Thanks for watching Jon!
I’m SO glad you shared this and I found it today! I was just listening last night to your older marketing course to refresh as I relaunch and restart my business and I thought “I wonder if this is working now still in 2020 with Covid and everything.” And this pops up today! :-) Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
This was so helpful, I've taken several classes & many videos on marketing my business, but not one of them shared this type of information & I LOVED this. I can see how it makes it less businesslike & more personal, not so stoic I guess is what I'm saying . This was great information. I'm not really a wedding photog, more of a portrait, but it's all about working with clients, ALL clients, right . Thank you so much for sharing with us.
You're so welcome!
Love this! Thank you for sharing. 💛
You are so welcome!
This is so true! My most comments + engagement = personal posts / intro days!
Awesome! Glad it is working!
Katelyn, you´re a hero and a star! I mean you really are rather fantastic- not only as a photographer but also as an educator. I´ve been making my living as a photographer for 20 years and have gotten nowhere near to where you are. At least I have your channel to learn from :) All the best to you from the Czech Republic.
Wow Thanks for watching!
Love this! Thank you!
You are so welcome!
I wonder how your doppelgänger feels after what you mentioned, that she’s basically no match for you 😂 I love your videos keep it up!
Thanks for watching!
This is so helpful. The whole time I was thinking, and shouting in my brain, "This is me!" It's been hard over the years to get feedback that going against the corporate norm isn't "good". I don't fit in the corporate mold. I'm highly relational and care for people. Watching this video has honestly been a relief. Thank you!
Thanks so much! Glad it was helpful!
So inspiring! Thank you for this!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thaaaank you!! So so much for this!!!
You are so welcome!!
Needed this!💕
Thanks for watching!
Wow, we are EXTRA early! Thank you so much for all of this amazing content. We have devoured the Lighting, Location & Layout course and have already begun to see light differently and noticed a giant change in our photos.
me too
AMAZING!! Thanks for joining us in this journey!!
Awesome!!
you're the best. You're positivity is infectious. (in a good way of course 😃️)
Wow, thank you!
You are a woman with power Katelyn ❤
please keep sharing your videos help me a lot.
Glad it has helped!
Love watching your content!
Glad you enjoy it!
Love all this! And have been coached in this and I used this idea (genuinely) to let people in with my Mom’s journey with Alzheimer’s for so many reasons. I wanted to bring awareness etc. Then my Mom died a year ago and picking up my camera has been minimal and my plans to grow a business came to a hault . I want to “re start” and don’t know where to start! I am an empty nester so no kids to share! I am in your Facebook groups and classes.....awaiting the business course over the holidays.
Cheryl I am so sorry for your loss! Thanks for sharing about your mom. I know it seems daunting where to start but you can do this!!
I LOVE THIS!
Thanks for watching!!
this is some great content! I must say i didnt think about the professionalism that I display after my clietns have just seen my personal brand on instagram
Thanks for sharing Jessica!
Wow. I am truly speechless.
Thanks for watching!
Many thanks Katelyn, truly inspirational advice. I am trying to set up my own wedding photography business here in the UK (not easy as we are now heading into our 2nd national lockdown& weddings are again banned!) I will now implement this advice into my marketing strategy.
You can do it!
Hi!! Love your channel. From the dmv here. I also just switched from 5d4 to the r6.
Awesome! Thank you!
Oh that's why!
Thanks for watching!
I am so Happy to discover this channel recently (the R6 brought me Here 😇) and this Video alone is it worth. Greetings from Germany
Awesome! Thank you!
Haha, great! I'm not the only German watching 😉
@@ulrikenasser6064 Hi, freut mich auch! Aus welcher Ecke bist du Ulrike ?
OMG yes thank you for bringing up the iPhone photography. I shot model looking images on my iPhone and fooled so many people. Not intentionally but they all thought it was from an expensive dslr, I honestly think it's frustrating that iPhones are becoming so powerful - because I fear it will take away from the craft.
Thanks for watching!
This is really great Katelyn, thank you very much for these great tips. I can't believe you are already fully booked for 2021. That is unbelievably crazy. what do you think about mini sessions for someone like me who is just starting out as a photographer?
Mini Sessions are a great option to get your name out there!!
Best video ever👏👏👏
Thank you!!
This was great. I am always hesitate to talk about me on my business page. I do notice that the post I make on Instagram that talk a out me and my personal life get way more engagement than the pretty photos in my portfolio. I’m going to start getting more personal on social media to let possible clients know who I am outside of being a photographer.
Glad it was helpful!
@@KatelynJames i learn something new from all your content.
This makes so much sense, but how do we do this if we’re concerned about the privacy of our children?
I think that talking about personal parts and even little glimpses of what they are learning or doing - so like pictures of flowers that are picked for you.
I understand that can be a hindrance for some. I don't think kids have to be what you share about. There are so many aspects of our lives we can share!
Abby from Abbys Kitchen does this really well. She refers to her kids as Baby E and Baby O and talks about them a lot without showing direct photos of them. She’ll show feet and back of heads etc because she’s managing their privacy, but she includes them in her business
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS AMAZING VIDEO, I LOVE IT! ITS REMIND ME ABOUT HOW WE START OUR RESTAURANT BUSINESS IN RICHMOND (CARYTOWN GYRO), WE INVOLVE OURSELVES (RASOOL AND ANGIE) WITH CUSTOMERS. MANY OF THEM HAVE BECOME GOOD FRIENDS. YES, THEY ARE NOT JUST CUSTOMERS, THEY ARE FRIENDS. I WATCHED YOUR VIDEO BECAUSE I WANT TO START MY SECOND BUSINESS AS A PHOTOGRAPHER. I HAD 14 YEARS EXPERIENCE AS PHOTOGRAPHER BUT I COULDN`T START THE BUSINESS BECAUSE THE LANGUAGE, AND THAT WHAT CAUSED US TO SWITCH TO RESTAURANT OWNERS AND I AM A CHEF TODAY. BUT AFTER 8 YEARS IN LOVELY RICHMOND I DECIDED TO TAKE ACTION AND START MY PHOTOGRAPHY BUSINESS
So awesome!! We will need to come eat there!! Best of luck to you!!
You and your husband sound like fantastic people. Does your business include video for the price that you mentioned or just photography. Keep up the fantastic work, you ha e such a likable personality.
Just photography!
You’re awesome 😊
Thanks for watching!
Love your videos and encouraging words! I am a new photographer in my first year of running my business. Have you ever been in a time where comparison gets you down and feel like "I am not good enough photographer." How does one stay focused without looking to compare with others?
All the time starting out! It wasn't until I realized that people were hiring Katelyn James to be at their wedding....no one could compete with me because they weren't me!
This is good stuff. Agree with this yet I never know what to post 😂 My life isn’t that interesting.
That is what everyone says! You are more interesting then you think!!
Can you help with how to start your shoot by setting your white balance using kelvin and explain spot metering?
Thank you for your insight, what I would like to know is what if I want to do this as a side gig ? will you make a video on doing professional photography on the side ?
We can add it to the list.
@@KatelynJames Thank you.
Branding!!
Thanks for watching!
Would you recommend then having you business photography page also being your personal page or having those be separated accounts?
We have always had one page for both on instagram. Our pages are separated on facebook
Thanks, Katelyn! Question :) I split my most active IG account off into a Weddings IG account last year since my most active account started having “fun” content creation, photo tips, and more personal content, and I thought brides would like to see more of a consistent wedding gallery. However, this year (and based on this video), I’m considering fusing them back together into one personal/fun + wedding account. What should I do with the other wedding page that is more like a gallery? And am I still okay to post random fun photoshoots and travel on the one account I want to keep active?
I want to combine them again since it’s been really confusing trying to get vendors to tag me in posts and I have 2 accounts🙈
I love only having one account.. I have friends that want things separate. I think it comes down to personal preference!
@@KatelynJames Thank you!
How do you do this if you don’t like to be in front of the camera? Asking for a friend … me lol
Lots of practice!!
HOW do i combine my business and personal pages on socials now?!
Thanks for watching! Which platform?
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Thanks for watching!
I'll just say this: "Easy for you to say".
And I'll add this: NOBODY is going to pay 10,000 for a wedding photographer in this country. NOBODY. Your market is insane.
Thanks for watching!
Wow about stop showing only your portifolio on social media ! I have 2 instagrams account lol one for business and one for my personal. Time to change it
Thanks for watching!
