      Thanks Brian, it was loads of fun to ride with you. BTW I totally disagree with your statement about being the weakest rider (2:33). I definitely take this title in this group.

    Awesome videos! Glad you got to ride the Demo Forest, Just one FYI- its not pronounced "sew kwell", locals call it "sew kel" (emphasis on the kel). I live a couple miles from there on the other side of Hwy 17 and I'm slowly putting a (small) run on my four acres.
    Love your videos man, thanks for giving us all a taste of whats out there.

    This looks like one of the best/most fun trails I've seen you ride. The flow!
    One thing about POV videos is that it's difficult to tell if the rider is ascending, flat, or decending.

    it's been a long time since i've ridden at soquel; we used to climb up sometimes from the nisene marks fire road. none of us were riding dualies at the time, i'd usually be on my 24 pound ibis alibi XC racer. i remember doing a nose wheelie on a trail which had steep drops on either side, i can't remember the name. scared the dickens out of me, though. great video!

    I'm loving your videos so far and jealous of your courage to take a sabbatical from a steady income-stream to try your own thing!
    As someone who knows nothing about trail geography outside of Texas, I would love to see a brief map in the intro of where you are riding in the video (nearest city, what the trails are known for, who you are riding with, etc) -- especially since you will be riding in so many new locations. I also saw someone else suggest briefly showing the equipment you are riding on in the video -- I would like to +1 that. In a year when you have a new bike, we won't know this ride was on your old bike, or if you were riding someone else's bike, or just demo'ing a bike since all we see are the handlebars.
    Keep up the good work!

    • @bkxc

      Thanks so much Lars! I really appreciate the feedback and ideas, always working on getting better. I have a link to the full ride guide in the description, so I hope people that want to know more will click it and see my various details - but it's not always obvious! Definitely going to add in some kind of "my bike" link in the future once I get my new bike. Thanks again.

    I have zero interest in mountains with no stops to discover and explore caves.
    I'd also prefer cow trails with manure rather than dodging Soquel 2-wheeling.
    I saw enough of Soquel, before buying a home for 35K near the Salish Sea.

    This looks so fun. i need some new adventure in my life. Lots of mountain bike paths here in TN. Question: You ever been speeding down a trail, come around a corner and almost hit a walking pedestrian, another biker or 4 wheeler coming the opposite way?

    • @rigorhead01
      @rigorhead01 8 років тому +1

      Dude, here in Memphis TN that happens all the time! Some of my favorite trails that are smooth and fast I have to take it easy because I'm constantly afraid I'm going to clobber someone around every blind corner. There's one set of trails here that's pretty difficult and is usually only mountain bikes, and those bikers almost always ride the trails in one direction. Therefore I almost always ride these same trails. It's a real bummer and I'm sure it's everywhere there's popular trails shared with hikers, 4-wheelers, horses, etc.

      +Hollis Prince I'm over in the southeast part of Tennessee...Chattanooga. The Appalachians nearby...Cherokee National Park, Smoky Mountains, wildernesses of northern Georgia and Western North Carolina nearby. Bet there's some wicked trails in it all.

    • @bkxc
      @bkxc  8 років тому

      Hey Josh! You do come into some blind corners and such, but I'm always in full control and very cautious in those situations. It's usually the OTHER guy who is out of control and freaks out, which I've had happen twice. One of the guys was just looking down at his GPS and going really fast, grabbed his front brake and went flying after he saw me.

    nice vid like always. i am wondering why the vid quality is lacking a little bit. when i watched your gimbal introduction vid , it was fucking great but for some odd reason the vid quality is lacking on the other vids. you FOV is kinda too zoomed in :D
    i really prefered the wide FOV and the 60 FPS high quality vid of yours !
    just a quick tip !

    • @UbiquitousBooks
      @UbiquitousBooks 8 років тому +1

      One thing to bear in mind is that in woodland like this it gets pretty dark and the GoPro has to struggle for light. The compromise is either higher sensitivity (which adds noise to the image) or longer exosure (which makes the image blurrier and generally less sharp). Also, in low light all of the colours get compressed down into the low end of the dynamic range which makes the image look a lot less saturated and contrasty than one shot out in the daylight.

    • @UbiquitousBooks
      @UbiquitousBooks 8 років тому

      But yes, I personally prefer to record in "Superview" (GoPro's ultra-wide mode) for chest mounted riding video.

    • @bkxc
      @bkxc  8 років тому

      This was definitely a low-light area where I should have had the ISO cranked up a bit. I'm not a big fan of 1080p@60 because it becomes really blocky and rough, where I can get pretty good sharpness recording at 2.7k and UA-cam processing it to 1440p. I prefer the medium FOV, "zoomed in" because it flattens out EVERYTHING. Nothing looks steep or normal in that FOV. But I'm always working on getting the right angle and improving the quality. Always welcome the feedback!

    • @bkxc
      @bkxc  8 років тому

      Argh, can't edit my comment: I meant to say I prefer medium FOV because superview flattens out everything.

    • @satiic
      @satiic 8 років тому

      the light problems didnt bother me at all ( prolly bcs i am as photgrapher myself)´. i think you should go for the 60 FPS version buddy. I know youtube has its own mechanism to make the greatest 1080 P vids look like bullshit but the 2.7K 30 FPS. is just worse than 1080 P and 60 FPS ! ! GL on your way bro . i hope you can make a living of youtube and biking ... maybe consider patreon or services like that!

    This trail looks so sick. That first section was super flowy and smooth and those berms were so insane! Sick video as always! Can't wait to get back to Sweden and pin some trails on the new bike. Your videos always make me want to go ride haha

      Haha, as long as I'm inspiring you, I'm doing my job! What's your favorite ride in Sweden?

      +BK-XC You're doing a great job at it! In Gothenburg we have awesome trails right in the middle of the city (it's called Änggårdsbergen). There's some technical, flowy, downhill, and and even XC stuff. I'm making a trip up to a bike park built by Whistler in Northern Sweden soon so that'll be a blast!

    • @bkxc

    I live/ride in the Monterey bay area. Santa Cruz is pretty sweet. How did you like the trails and terrain compared to other parts of the country? Also may I suggest riding in Copper Harbor and Marquette Michigan. Some of the best trails you've never heard of. I promise you won't be disappointed. Seek out Aarin Rodgers, he'll hook you up as he's the builder up in the harbor.
