  • A step-by-step guide of how to perform a transvaginal ultrasound guided embryo transfer, an innovative method from Japan for which Kitazato has developed a specifically designed embryo transfer catheter.
Gynecologist and fertility specialist Daniel Bodri guides us through the process using ultrasound images and a simulated procedure.
Daniel completed his medical training in Hungary and worked in renowned fertility centers in France, Spain, Japan and the UK. He earned a MSc in Clinical Embryology from the University of Leeds and a PhD in Obstetrics and Gynecology from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. His main areas of research are ovarian stimulation, egg donation, time-lapse imaging and evidenced-based medicine.

Very elaborate and clear explanation. Though it's clearer to visualize unfortunately it's not so easy to perform in real life. Especially the insertion of the outer catheter without ultrasound guidance. I believe there needs to be a wireless fit-in vaginal probe which stays in place with no need to manipulate for this procedure and this probe needs to be invented. Taking into account that ivf is an expensive procedure, the manufacturers may in future invest for this invention.

Can a doctor select where to place the embryos, anterior vs posterior uterine wall?

No, womb cavity is a potential space which has two opposed layers to stay closed. With an embryo transfer catheter embryos are deposited into this space then they implant into the wall they choose
