Mattel proved that they CAN sell all metal cars for $2.99 with the Hot Wagons set, they just don't want to. I'm over it _now,_ but when it became clear not all cars following at this price would have metal bases man did I feel duped.
2021 was the year Surfin School Bus got the retooling, another casting to go from post/tab construction to the more familiar post/post and yes getting shorter in the process. Mattel shaving those pennies however they can! I'm still a bit peeved that 5 Alarm lost an axle in the current design compared to its original run Good Gets in the mail call thanks to Darin! 💯😎🏁
@norsefalconer I _grimaced_ at how much plastic went into the recent VW Custom race van 😫 Only the eye catching design got me to purchase one. When you consider how much can get changed in a retooling and the initial investment in new dies, don't underestimate the scrutiny of efficiency experts and bean counters at Mattel 🤑 Guess we'll be seeing lots of versions relase of this bus through the next years
@@Chris_HoodNo doubt on the VW recolors. We'll see a more than a few. I'd like to see their payback estimates for re/new tooling. Plus, I'd bet the cost recap is just as much about shipping costs as production costs. Seems they're pretty strategic in case loading where weight is concerned.
@@scottwilliams2903 2013 to 2014 Hot Wheels Cool Classics line had this Spectrafrost satin finish. I think the $3.99 price point spelled quick doom for the series, based on what info the wiki has
The Spectra Frost line ended in '21 or '22. I have the '61 Bubble Top Impala, from that line up, It us, what I call, Patriot blue w/ red and white pin stipes.
"lil bastard" was James Dean's 550 he died in.

For the price they all should have metal base. Thanks for sharing!

The Shelby concept & Porsche Moving Parts are both sweet. 😊
0:58 I like that porsche just picked it up from target 🎯
When the Maroon tooned Batmobile came out, it was everywhere in my area. I think it won peg warmer of the year. 🤣 I think it was a Super, too.
These days the greenish one is everywhere. I haven't seen the maroon one in about a yeat.

The bus' bottom half (below windows) of the body went to plastic on the new casting as well. New tooling was def a cost cutting venture.

Whatever happened to Spectrafrost paint? 🤔
I've never heard of that. I'm not sure if you're joking. I guess I'll look it up
