The automotive landscape we live in is an ever changing one... Occasionally, we will run into vehicles that rarely sees changes and the #Toyota #Sequoia is the very definition of that. In nearly 20 years since it was first brought to market, the vehicle is only in its second generation with the current one being out since 2008. As vehicles in the big truck style SUV segment have changed over the years, Toyota's Sequoia is starting to look ancient and until Toyota infuses some serious money into completely redesigning this vehicle, we'd happily recommend any of its newer, more modern competitors.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas with family tomorrow! We actually filmed this video back in Sept and it got pushed back due to an audio issue with had. The faulty cable was replaced a while ago and we did our best to correct the audio in a few scenes. We really appreciate your patience with this, this really hasn’t been the year for audio but we’re hoping to not have any issues in 2019! We should be posting our end of the year video talking about our favorite and least favorite cars by the end of the week! Thanks for watching everyone :)

I mean if I had 5 kids the choice would be easy. Not every family has 20k to spare for parts & maintenance when buying a family utility SUV. I’m already excited for this one. The new sequoia is exactly what I like in an SUV - they don’t need to change, the allure is the classic SUV experience. And, in all honesty, unless you drive new or luxury cars constantly, 4-runners and Sequoias are packed with everything you’d need. You’re not spoiled but you’re cared for

Rented a 2019 for a long weekend a couple of weeks ago. LOVED everything about it. Absolute pleasure to drive. Excellent road presence/visibility. The V8 makes the Sequoia move with authority when needed. I thought the gas mileage was very decent (given that it is a 6000lb V8, 8 passenger, body on frame SUV) doing a combination of highway and city driving, often with the air conditioner on. The 6" (or whatever size screen did not bother me) and neither did the 'one-dimensional' backup camera. All those fripperies are O.K. however, cup holders, infotainment screens, heated/cooled seats, and push button ignitions don't even begin to make my Top 10 list of concerns when selecting an SUV. Powerful/Reliable engine?---check. Durable/Reliable transmission?---check. Timing chain?---check. Strong reputation/Owner reviews? check. Comfortable driver's seat? check. A/C blows ice cold? check. Excellent visibility? check. Safety? check. Good ground clearance? check. Made by Toyota? check.
If I could afford one (and didn't live in such a densely populated area, with narrow streets and whatnot), I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

      @heavyj2134 3 роки тому +1

@@the.rico.network Reducing the engine size for a large, heavy vehicle like this does not generally result in superiour fuel economy. Compare the 4.6 offered in the Tundra versus the 5.7. The larger engine doesn't have to work as hard and thus uses only slightly more fuel, but offers drastically more torque and power. Fuel economy is gained by adding mechanical and electrical complication like smaller displacement with a turbo charger, direct fuel injection, variable valve timing systems, cylinders that shut off, 8 speed transmissions, or by reducing weight (the dreaded F150 aluminum box). With added complication generally comes diminished reliability. The mechanical and electrical underpinnings of the Sequoia are relatively simple, proven, and reliable. This is why people will still buy this vehicle. The added fuel consumption sometimes is the lesser evil versus inconsistent reliability. That being said, I would love to see Toyota step up their fuel economy game for their truck line. They are something like a decade behind at this point.

The reason why you might want an ancient vehicle like this is for the unbeatable reliability. This thing is well tested and will last forever. I purchased a Nissan Frontier Pro4x last year for the same reason. I wanted a simple, reliable, capable small truck that didn't cost a ton of money. I understand why most buyers wouldn't want something this old, but for those who appreciate old school simplicity and reliability, this would be an excellent choice.

Yes it’s a dinosaur but provides basically all the amenities a driver needs. Plus it is super reliable. I’m cool with not having the push button start. Is that feature really that important? What happens if your fob battery dies with push to start? My 2012 4Runner is outdated too but it’s running strong! Great review!

Yes, but side steering ignition is as old as it gets. At least they could have placed the ignition on the front, not mounted on the steering like a 68 mustang... Lol

Not sure why you felt it is old. A car is a car, fancy things are not necessary. Keeping things the same reduce manufacture's cost , as long as people still buy it, don't change it .

Meaning the design is ‘old’ doesn’t mean the car is ‘old’ by any means. I think Toyota makes their vehicles with the old saying in mind: “ If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it” The Sequoia gives you everything you will need to drive in comfort in long trips, great cargo, safety, and most importantly, durability. It may not massage your butt and unlock the doors by itself for you and tell you ‘welcome driver’ with today’s unreliable high tech, but it still the best most durable SUV in its class. Beautiful dinosaur !🦖

2002 Toyota Sequoia Limited with 275k. Replaced the 6-disk stereo with a nav unit and back-up camera. Best part of this truck is it's very comfortable and doesn't care about road imperfetions. Pot-holes? Don't care. Speed bumps? Don't care. Priuses. Don't care. $3,500. Love it.

The rear suspension is not for off road or handling it’s for load leveling when towing. The competition will have that Uber annoying rear end squat when towing which makes it drive like a 1960’s van where the Sequoia will drive like nothing is behind it when towing.
I love the fact that it doesn’t have soft touch pleather because that crap doesn’t last. I hope they never put direct injection on that motor. People buy this because they want a real truck SUV and not a minivan masquerading as an SUV

Good point about the load leveling suspension. But I disagree on the the soft touch vs hard plastic for interior. I would say that neither will last. Soft touch will start to deform and start to split. Plastic will discolor, get ashy then start cracking and crumbling. They both suck for longevity, but both are better than a long lasting, old school metal dash that would kill us in a crash lol!

The REAL automotive dinosaur is the Chevy Express/ GMC Savanna. These have the same bodies since 1997, the same front sheet metal since 2003 and same dash since 2010.

The GMC of course, a POS.
Now the Sequoia NEVER failed never an issue.
    Always safe and reliable.
A beast to say the least.
