I don't think the Bible teaches evolution but I think there are a lot of metaphors to make the weird more clear.
Since the time of the Ante-Nicene Fathers we have been taught there are multiple e.g. 4 meanings in each passage. The Literal is the first and primary meaning, but God is not limited to only one meaning in a passage.

So do you hold to a literal interpretation of Genesis? The hebrew word for day 'yom' do you take that to be 24 hours?
