Hi Shawn - Great to see others spreading the word on the CDL series! Good luck with your cabinets and glad you are liking them so far. Even after almost four years with ours, we still are amazed at how they make our job easier!
Thank you. Being a Presonus guy for the last 12 years this was very helpful. I've never used Presonus speakers before, but I've used A LOT of their other electronics. You referenced to content creators, whom I watch regularly, which only sweetened the deal. I'll DEFINITELY be looking into trying them out in my arsenal.
I agree with you! Great boxes for what they are. One of the best speeakers Hugh Sarvis designed before he left Presonus. We have installed several of the CDL12p in churches and they cover well. We just received the CDL10p for an upcoming job and they sound very similar to the 12. The 12 has a little deeper, fuller bass, but not by much. Hugh Sarvis moved on and partnered with the Danish amplifier company, BLAZE. He has redesigned the CDL the way he originally envisioned the speaker and now calls them the Constant Beamwidth Loudspeaker, or CBL. We installed 3 CBL528 in a church and they resulted in much more crisp vocals compared to the CDL, but at the cost of lowend. They are all passive speakers currently, but will release active speakers sometime in the future. BLAZE is worth checking out and following. Very innovative company and only growing.
It sounds to me like these boxes have a gain staging issue, where the box's input section clips before the limiter in the DSP kicks in - which is why the DSP high pass filter doesn't solve the problem and a HPF on your mixer does. And also why adding gain in the DSP solves the problem too. It also makes me wonder if the clip light is actually indicating input clipping and not amplifier clipping. EDIT: Yep! I was right. Reading the manual helps, guys. Straight from the manual: "CLIP. The clip LED illuminates when the input signal has exceeded 0.5 dBFS, and the ADC is clipping, or when the amplifier exceeds the maximum upper limit (load dependent)."
This just doesn’t make sense in the fact that I have my output signal at -10 out of the mixer going into the boxes and it still wants to light up the limit and clip lights. Funny thing is that the speaker does not have any clip sounds like you would think you should hear when you overdrive or push too hard.
That, in fact, @@racesla is how I have finally solved the issue. I’ve set the speaker level to +6 and now the mixer has plenty of headroom without lighting any of the lights it shouldn’t
You stated 'Speakon" plug. That's confusing to those looking. It's a POWERCON plug. You made me double-check to make sure this wasn't a passive model LOL. 😉
It’s a constant curvature array. line array is totally different each box having multiple angles settings, and being able to shape coverage and throw exactly to the venue. they can be used in hangs of 16 boxes plus per side. Constant curvature array max is out at four maybe five boxes since you can’t change the angles of each box
have you heard the QSC LA108/112? if yes, how do they compare to these?🤔 every time i hear these speakers in a video, they seem to sound as if there's a hard cover on top of them, whereas in all videos, where you can hear the LA112s, the sound seems to be clear/pure🤷♂
Hi, i just discovered your channel and i am enjoying it so much. I found it while searching for reviews for the cdl 12/10. I am currently a dj, i was in a band in my early years and helped with the sound as well. And doing a little bit of sound for bands and working on getting equipment for bands. Keep up the good work. Have you looked at the ld icoa 18 subs? I would love your review.
Hello just purchased a pair of worx audio technologies wave series 12A and a single 18 inch TL118SSL what has me confused is that in the front of the speakers it says presonus only payd $450 dlls in almost new condition for all 3
When I first learned about the clipping issue I adjusted to using a limiter so I wouldn’t limit again, if they cut off frequently you may need to use a limiter

As I said that has not happened to me, or any speakers at all, just check your signal and maybe keep it from hitting the clip light alot, if you are keeping it safe, then you may have an issue with your power, for instance your amps in your CDL may be out and causes it to turn off
Question Sean if you were using 1box per side of the CDL 10/12 would you put the speakers at +5db and still put your mixer on -10db master fader to not clip.
In first Event log using these (Kodiak Christmas party) I did not know of these techniques, and I only had one per side, but I imagine it will do the same, just be aware of the hiss that comes from the amp, it’s low but in a quiet room it’s barely noticeable, so yes, pls go between +3 and 5 to test and let me know!
Hey Sean, nice review, enjoyed it. I've been looking at the csl12p speakers for a while and was thinking about getting them, as the dispersion would suit my gigs. I recently seen the cdl10p and it was great to find your review. I have a couple of questions. Was size audience would 1 cdl10p per side over a sub work for? And have you heard/used the cdl12p, and would it be worth the extra money for those? Our setup is 4 piece, drums, bass guitar, lead guitar and lead vox. Top 40 band. I'm not to worried about extra weight as we'd always have a few of use to lift. I'm currently using db technologies vio x12, one per side, over db technologies sigma s118 subs. I have the full sigma system for large events. Have you ever heard that? Thanks Sean!
Thank you for enjoying it! As for your first question, my first time running only 2 on each side(on top of 2 subs) I feel like if you can get it high enough, you can cover around 200+, these rock with spread and clarity, and even tho the 10P has only 6 drivers(opposed to 8 on the 12p) it’s still really loud and drives the sound. I have not heard any CDL line of speakers in person, I just trusted my findings, and my sweetwater Sales Engineer on that, and honestly I bet the only difference between the 10 and 12 is probably the low end output. For a 4 piece band I bet 2 CDL 12P tops is more than enough, I wanted 4 10Ps to have that extra +3dB of dispersion, and I was worrisome about the Clipping from the CDL line to help with that, and too be honest, try with CDL12s and let me know!! These 10Ps are working wonders for me!
@@seantallica2020 brilliant. Great, I think I'll give the 12s a go and see how they sound then! Thanks for the reply Sean. And keep the vids comin, love your content!
@@paddyeire96 Just thought I'd include my 2 cents on the CDL line. I am a professional systems integrator and I have installed several 4 speaker CDL12p arrays in churches, mostly. What I can say about them is that the coverage is incredible and very comparable with higher end line arrays. If you are worried about coverage and volume, they are the best bang for the buck. The sound quality is ok. When doing side by side comparisons for music play back with an older EV speaker, Presonus AIR series, and the OG Wood Worx speakers (same guy who designed the CDL, Hugh Sarvis) the mids and highs are not as crisp compared to a compression driver (but still sound better than a JBL. The CDL12p holds its own impressily well if you have a smaller gig. We only had one building we had to subs, but that was a much larger building. Live music is where these shine. That is true, I totally forgot knowing you have to change the angle to fit on a pole.
Pole you can do only two. If you want three, you must use the fly bar

Yes, definitely! I’ve used this in big buildings, and long halls! I recommend having the height at least 6’ so it will throw farther
