    The creative genius of US writer Stan Lee (1922-2018) generated 'Spider Man', 'X-Men', 'The Hulk' and other complex characters. Marvel Comics with Lee at the helm became hugely successful. In January 2011, Lee received the 2428th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. [Listener: Leo Bear; date recorded: 2006].
    TRANSCRIPT: I was lucky with Peter Parker when I came up with that character because he seems to have struck a chord with… with so many readers, and I think it's because… he's probably more like a regular person, a normal person, than any other character. And I try to make him that way because I guess, until Peter Parker, no superhero - or no superhero's alter-ego - had ever had to worry about making a living, getting along well with girls, being popular, or… or have all the problems that… I tried to heap as many problems as I could on poor Peter because I feel most people - even people who seem to be happy - have problems and they have worries. One thing I loved from the point of view of writing the stories, it made it easy for me to come up… see, you have to come up with situations that interest a reader, where the reader is going to say: ‘How the hell is he going to get out of this?’. Now, I was always… I always enjoy doing things where Peter Parker had to become Spider-Man and go over there in order to save the world, or the city, or Mary Jane, or somebody, but at the same time Aunt May needed her medicine or she might die and the only place to get the medicine was in the drug store over there. But Peter had to do either the one of those in the next five minutes, and there wasn't time to do them both. And what would he do? And I tried to come up with as many situations of that type as possible. Because of the fact that he had… a regular life away from his superhero life that had all sorts of problems, I think people could relate to it. Even the idea of not being able to… well, for example, I had not read any other superheroes who very often felt they wished they could quit being a superhero because, it's not a normal life, and he's miserable, and maybe he's not doing the right thing. I made him a guy who is very introspective, he questions, why am I doing this? I gave him a guilt-complex; he felt his uncle had died because he hadn't captured this original burglar who ended up killing his uncle. So he was riddled with neuroses, and riddled with worries and doubts, and… there were quite a few stories I wrote where he wanted… In fact there was one story I know I wrote where he did, he threw his costume in a trash can and he walked away said: ‘I'm giving it up’. And John Romida drew the greatest cover of him walking away into the distance, and the trash can over here with the costume kind of hanging over the side. And… you hadn't seen that in Superman or Batman or anyone so… I… I'm rather proud of that. The fact that Peter - like any normal human being - had self-doubts and concerns, and he was just never sure. Am I doing…? Just like me now, I'm not sure. Am I talking too much? Am I talking too little? Do I look okay in the camera? Should I be…? My wife will say, ‘You should have sat straight, why were you hunched over this way?’ We all have these problems.

    Peter Parker: the only alter ego who's super hero version got in the way of his normal life because he had a regular life instead of a privileged life (money problems, family problems, social problems, career problems, etc.). Bruce Wayne was a millionaire with too much wealth and free time, and Clark Kent was basically an alien god. I like Batman's character and story more than Spiderman's but he really is the more relatable super hero out of the big three (Batman, Superman and Spiderman).

      It does, actually. MCU Peter questions himself like... A lot. Because he doesn't know how to be that hero he has to be. Also he faces a lot of double situations that Stan's Talking about especially in homecoming

    • @jaycutler4013
      @jaycutler4013 3 роки тому +13

      @@carmony8756 none of that comes close to what Stan describes in this video. Spider-Man has money problems? Nah he’s Tony’s chosen one and gets suits and inherits billions of dollars worth of tech. May struggling to be a single parent? Nah let’s make her younger and hippie who can afford a decent sized apartment in nyc and apparently also have enough money to spend electricity to charge the iron spider and send Pete on a trip to Europe . Does he have girl problems? No. He has no problems! Did he face any meaningful consequences for skipping decathlon? No. His villains are a result of Tony’s actions. His movies feel like an Iron man spin-off than a Spider-Man movie. Stan made him as a “relatable” character, Tom has a billionaire as a father figure, inherits billions of dollars worth of tech, gets girls so easily, has no money problems, can afford to international trips which isn’t really relatable. It feels like marvel only focuses on the superficial aspects of Spider-Man, They focus on the heroic and fun elements of Spider-man which isn't entirely wrong but leaving out his personal life takes out some of the most interesting aspects of the character.

      @@jaycutler4013 lol inherit billions since when. Tony didnt give him a dime. I hear what u saying but u r actually wrong. Only thing he got from iron man was an upgraded costume which in my opinion could Have created his own self with the right resources. In fact later in the comics he did create a lot of gadgets for himself when he finally became a scientist. Shoot in the last 15 minutes from far from home he created his own costume. Black and red one. But no he was definitely not rich lol

    Peter Parker was a character that has been copied to death but will never be matched. That's what Marvel used to be great at. Such as the classic Fantastic Four story where they get evicted.

      @@kobi7955 I'm not talking about writing but the actual artwork. Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko made the super hero's and villain with many other artists. Stan just had a talent for self-promotion, that's why you see him on a lot of movies cameos, he never gave credit to the artist unless he was cornered or forced too. What a dweeb. I bet a lot of other artists feel the same way. Kind of reminds me of Trump, lol.

      @@DKLGalactus5 Stan would usually make the general outline of the story and send that to Jack to draw although sometimes they were more collaborative on the stories like with a lot of Fantastic 4 so while it is true Stan did take a lot of credit for the creation of the characters it was more of a collaborative effort since without Stan's writing we wouldn't have the more real and relatable tone of Marvel that has lasted so long.

    • @DKLGalactus5
      @DKLGalactus5 Рік тому

      @kobi7955 Without the artist you would have nothing, just an old forgotten story in the trash. Stan's was editor, not writer or artist very doubtful he wrote anything. That's why they have writers, the editor just touches up the story here and their. He was like Trump always taking the glory, it was all him right.
