I love your informative video and am sure that it will help many! As the 'new' YT takes over, I will not be on YT tomorrow, Dec 16 to protest that we will not be able to view videos and comment on them at the same time. I know that times have changed and ads are important, but YT has been a society for many bed-ridden people that have bonded across the miles. I hope we can continue to encourage and educate. LoLv.
[Continued]The little gun is called a lancing device. :) More SMBG Tips: 1. Soaking hands in warm/hot water before lancing helps increase blood flow & make it easier to get a good sample. 2. They make glucometers which allow lancing your arm & saving your poor fingertips! 3. Check out BD Ultra-Fine lancets! Check your pharmacy! They're so much less painful & reduce bruising b/c they're much thinner. Much love, sweet spirit!
RE: Hypoglycemia: Actually that's true! As blood moves further away from the heart, glucose gets depleted as cells along the way take it in. This is why blood sugar may register lower in fingertips than in one's arm. Newer glucometers are purportedly calibrated to take this into account, but of course go w/ how you were taught! I'm sorry your sugars have been low. :( Have you been able to up your feeds at all? I'm always cold too & have a heck of a time this time of year. I love you!
Hey sweetheart! Yes you are correct to swab the top of the multi-dose vial (& you did it right for a full 15 seconds for sterilization!). While infection risk w/ SQ injections is MUCH less than w/ IV, it is possible to get an infection via SQ injection. You can never be too careful, especially in our case b/c we are immunosuppressed. I can show you some tricks not to get bubbles in your syringe too. Next time I draw I'll make you a video. ;) Much love sweetheart!
Hi I enjoyed your video. I am on Sandostatin 100 mcg for chronic pseudo-obstructions, Intestinal failure. I have been on it for about one year now. I am still able to eat some solid foods but do drink a lot of protein drinks. trying to stay off of Tpn. Just wondering what dose of sandostatin you are on? Do you really notice a difference with your small bowel motility? I do question its effectiveness. Though in the beginning i felt it to be helpful. I have an ileostomy. Not an easy road but we must keep moving forward! I see this video is 12 years old. Hope you are doing well! Hope to hear from you. God bless you ..
@SheWhoFeels testing on your arm I learned may not pick up hypoglycemia. I don't understasnd it and I dont know if thats true but going to play it safe! fingers don't bother me, or my lancets. lol lancet...device! nice. just add that extra word and there ya have it lol. I never would take the extra energy to get out of bed to go soak hands but that makes sense-I'm always so cold!
