ITS NOT JUST A WORK SONG. its a chaingang song. like the songs sung by convicts in the us justice system working jobs digging ditches or mining gravel. Thats why the cadence seems so good and progresses to demand greater and greater. cause its INDENTURED SERVANTS of the corpus singing as they work off there debt desperate to be free but also knowing EVERYONE is in the same boat. So they unify in there singular purpose and SING for what they work towards. TO LIFT THEM SELVES UP TOGETHER!
Contextual stuff: this song is tied to the reveal of Fortuna, a hub area for Warframe's second open-world which in-lore is a colony of indentured servants on Venus owned by one of the game's major enemy factions, the Corpus (they're super-space-capitalists, hence the indentured servitude). The video footage that goes along with it is actually what plays when you enter Fortuna for the first time, IIRC.
Coincidentally, there's another song related to the Corpus which is really good - Sleeping In The Cold Below, which is a space sea shanty. Check that out sometime if you haven't already.
yes you are correct on this video being what plays when you first land on Fortuna. And what I personally love in the structure of the video, is the visual imagery of it. You start with this camera angle on the ground, literally at foot level, as the first image you see is the worker's boots walking towards their chair. The camera angle slowly begins to rise and fall with the music, and as it pans over the various workers, establishing the imagery of ALL of them being in harmony, but also enslaved to the same task. They have found a strength in their shared misery, but it's still misery. And then, as the final chorus begins to sing together, and their voices rise to the heavens, the camera angle also rises into the heavens, like their song is a prayer for salvation, and liberation, ending on the shot of actual God Rays of blinding white light, filling the frame....and then what's next? what answers that call? that prayer for liberation?....YOU, literally falling in, like an avenging angel (and depending on what frame you are in, you might actually look pretty angelic), dropping to the earth among the people, ready to take on all the factions that are keeping these people enslaved. It's a FANTASTIC way of setting up the tone of the expansion, and establishing the overall emotional motivation for the player. You literally fall from on high, to answer their prayers for help, and then spend the whole content smashing in the faces of the faction keeping them imprisoned.
Just so damn good blending of visuals and audio, to indirectly convey to the player, what the devs are hoping you take from the story. You aren't just grinding for loot, this is a revolution, and YOU are the spark to set it off.
I wouldn’t say they’re indentured because that implies they have a choice the reason they’re all at fortuna is because they don’t have anymore of their bodies left to sell off so they’re forced to work off their debts or become a complete robot rather than a head in a box
and the solari faction of corpus slaves takes loans to train and replace bio parts with mechanical ones, which creates loops, but they have no choice because everyone in the corpus is born with debt and must pay it off or pass it on to the family after death.
@@dontassociateThis is an entirely fair point, I just forgot that they were called "debt-slaves" ingame when I wrote the comment (it's been a bit since I last logged in) and used the closest term I could think of in its stead.
its funny, because this song was covered by a pretty major sea shanty band called the longest johns (and honestly, i kinda prefer that version)
Still sends chills down my spine. Not just a great reveal trailer, but also a great in-game introduction to the zone. The figure who drops down at the end is the player character, and their appearance will reflect the player's visual customisations. This amazing cutscene transitions seamlessly into the player walking around the space they've just been introduced to.
honestly just the fact that they are able to render their cutscenes in the games own engine for smooth transitions like that is pure witchcraft considering how old this game is and an mmo at that.
I just started playing Warframe. It's honestly amazing. The development quality is 👌
@@delnite5825 Not to downplay how well Warframe does it, but in-engine cutscenes with seamless transitions aren't exactly a new thing.
@@thegrouchization yeah, but in game cutscenes usually arent implemented due to looking like absolute ass without substantial effort (especially not with older games like warframe).
its only more recent games with their insane graphics that can do it safely without it feeling more jarring than an advertisement.
but thanks to the fact that warframe is one of the only games that regularly gets graphics updates without them being sold as some cheap remake/remaster with no other changes, this mmo looter shooter thats more than a decade old can have in game cutscenes that actually look good and even comparable to something you would expect to see in a modern sony spiderman game. and that at the very least is not something that happens often (if at all).
@@delnite5825 Er... *most* games primarily use in-engine cutscenes, and this has been the case since long before I got into the hobby (circa 2007). Outside of CG intros (which Warframe also has), games typically stay in-engine from start to finish.
It's actually more rare for a game to use CG for the majority of its cutscenes. RTS is pretty much the only genre that uses them consistently.
I also love when the lyrics say "push" the emphasize the "S" sound sounding like a release valve letting out steam
Good catch, I hadn't even noticed that but man that's genius.
@@femboy_twink It is! the composer is just a madlad!
Its a bit spoilery, but there is a "sequel" to this song: For Narmer. The feeling you get when you hear it after We All Lift is unparalleled.
For Narmer hits different.
This. They are musically and thematically written to be opposites. Two songs sung by the same "choir" for very different reasons.
I'm just mad about the color change in Fortuna after the new war, I miss the old blue and purple colors of the place, gave it so much atmosphere.
Otherwise "For Narmer" is also amazing
As I said under another comment, We All Lift and For Narmer are also opposites in how they're presented - namely, how the player is introduced to their respective scenarios.
We All Lift Together ends with the player dropping from a light-filled hole in the ceiling, like some sort of angel, and immediately after this you can freely walk around the hub and talk to the locals (admittedly, if you're loading in for the first time you won't be able to buy anything) without fear of being attacked.
Meanwhile, For Narmer opens with the player descending into Fortuna via a lift - this sort of serves a double purpose, because it both shows how you're effectively powerless without your Warframe (by forcing you to take an elevator instead of just jumping down) AND it forces you to witness what's happened to Fortuna in your absence following previous events in the New War, how a choir once full of humanity has been reduced to a single, harmonious voice singing a false king's praises.
Then, when the lift stops at the bottom, it turns into a stealth section - Fortuna is now enemy territory, and without your Warframe or a weapon better than your dinky little Void pistol you have no hope of winning in a firefight.
I really like it.
Nothin has beaten this reveal for me still, all the other teasers were cool in their own right but this one had so much soul that it's pretty much unbeatable from a being memorable standpoint.
And then the contrast with for narmer
@@MortalMerc For Narmer was such a good touch to the arc
One of the bits I loved about For Narmer is indeed the stark contrast between it and the original Fortuna reveal - when you first enter Fortuna you drop down from the ceiling in your Warframe, like some sort of angel with no concept of fall damage, and from then on you have mostly free reign of the place (I'm still not sure if this is just because you're a Tenno and the Corpus are scared of what would happen if they tried to apprehend you, or because they legitimately don't keep armed guards in the part of Fortuna that serves as a player hub).
Meanwhile, when For Narmer comes in, you kind of have to watch it play out (likely in a state of abject horror) as you slowly descend down to ground level on an elevator, no longer able to fall from the sky for fear of breaking your legs on the landing and no longer able to walk around freely because the enemy is everywhere and, plainly speaking, you're *not* equipped to fight them head-on at that point in the quest.
the entire tennolive segment around this reveal is so unreal it still feel better than actually playing the game sometimes
I started around when Fortuna came out so this song really brings me back. What a banger.
You've probably heard this before, but the Warframe music team has been absolutely stellar for years. Even the more "mundane" music (the in mission background stuff players have heard endlessly) is good. And the feature pieces are absolutely magnificent! You've heard "This is What You Are" and "We All Lift Together," but there is much more. Strongly recommend checking out the soundtrack.
I have BEEN WAITING for you to listen to this. Funny enough, I work in a factory and I HAVE to listen to this at least 10 times through the day to get me through it. Love ya dude and keep it up man!!
I remember when this trailer (and the song with it) dropped. I watched it a BUNCH of times!
We All Lift Together really should be listened to in tandem with For Narmer, a spoiler-heavy song that serves as a sort of twisted counterpart to it, sung by the same people.
This kinda reminds me of what a Freemason's mindset is. My landlord is a Freemason, and he's pushing 76, working as a plumber. I showed him this song and he loved it.
Edit: a plumber, a food bank volunteer, a grounds keeper, carpenter, and train operator.
This song is one my top 3 favorites from Warframe.
would you mind if i asked what the other two songs are ? i don't play warframe but i know of it since my little brother does and i enjoy the music i've heard from it so far ^_^ we all lift together, march of the moa and corpus greed are my current top 3 c:
@@crime_frog Listen to sleeping in the cold below
AFAIK, they did not hire any professional singers for this. This is actually the dev team singing! Edit: turns out they didn’t, but there is a video of the entire dev team singing it very poorly!
Really. That is awesome 🤟
oh my gosh!? no way that’s amazing!!!
Pretty sure they have. One of them is an actor I was surprised to see - Kevin Durand. He was in Strain show more recently (ish), and a bunch of movies, it's an easily recognizable face.
Full list of singers:
Kevin Durand
Murray Foster
Jason Lewis
Damhnait Doyle
Basically, not true
That is false but it would've been cool
For Warframe Vets, this is one of the songs that ingrained in our mined in a good way.
I had heard the song before from the cover the Longest johns, then after like 7-8 months I started to play warframe without the realizing the song was from there and was so happy I heard it again in a while.
This song is by far yhe single moment that made me FALL IN LIVE with warframe and drove me to get invested and still am to this day
Please do for narmer next, it's literally the opposite of this one, and the whole context of the game and when the song is played makes it even better
Shhh, don't spoil it ~
I love this song, this was passed around a lot at the beginning of the pandemic with essential employees forced to work despite other people who were able to quarantine and stay safe.
I when I first started playing was right as this expansion was being released, and honestly it delivered the lore and world building of this set piece with this song alone
one of my favourite channels uploads this and while Im playing warframe? nice
Oooo nice timing
Limp chicken doing the work on these requests what a legend!
As someone who has played this game, the best part of this song is the thud of the warframe landing at the very end.
I recommend listening to anything i Chicory: A Colorful Tale. You could start with the very first one, Blank Canvas, or listen to Sips River or Simmer Springs for a chill time.
Man it's so cool you've covered this!
that moment during the chorus where the synth chord in the background is slowly built up so you only kinda notice it until the chord changes at that minute and a half mark of the song demanding you pay attention to the backing on top of the vocals and percussion gives me chills every time i hear this song
Some people already explained context here, but I want to add, as story goes on, after numerous quests there is one very big, longest quest at the moment called *New War* that take 6 hours of playing where about 4 hours or cutscenes, in this quest a whole Solar System was enslaved included Fortuna workers, but it was not just that, they also brainwash them with their Narmer mask and hence there is continuation for this song when you enter Fortuna for the first time during the quest called: *For Narmer*
So if you want to listen next song from WF, this is a good choice.
love the lyrics, definetly gives me chills to this day
I think a good way to illustrate the sheer variety of the music in Warframe can be found in this year's Tennolive showcase (a yearly show where they reveal major upcoming updates), which started off with a live opera performance and ended with Nine Inch Nails.
God i remember the hype this had
I can imagine
I feel like you kind of have to listen to "For Narmer" now, as the 2 songs are meant to be a dichotomy for each other. If you do listen to For Narmer in the future, I highly recommend listening to We All Lift Together again before listening to For Narmer, to refresh your memory and get more context.
One of my favorites but you need to react to Narmer now
I LOVE when tools are used like precussion in songs, it feels so good
its funny how this popped up when i was listening to this song more often again.
This was a good piece of music. I got a few tingles as well.
This and Sleeping in the Cold Below were introduced so well in the game.
We All Lift Together made me excited to meet all the characters and find out what they do. Biz (short for The Business) is my fav in this hub.
Sleeping in the Cold Below happens at such an unexpected moment in the game, but now I look forward to every update (especially to do with corpus enemies) as they are releasing such good story related music.
I'd love to see you react to Sleeping in the Cold Below next.
just wanna say there's an opposite version of this song called For Narmer: in this one, it's a choir of individuals singing for one, very church-themed, whereas in We All Lift Together all individuals are singing in unison for all individuals, worth doing a reaction to compare tempo, beat and instruments used, considering both songs happen in the same place but with different meanings
Yes, this one is really good!
Can't wait till LimpChicken requests for Sleeping in the Cold Bellow
oh my god returned to the game like a week ago and thats just a really awesome intro to fortuna loved it
It was quite something, when i heard this song in game it gave me chills and made me tear up. Something beautifully haunting about the tone and orchestral rise.
Even if this is a "working" kind of song this song makes me smile for some reason. It remembers me how good music can be with only few things.
Discovering Tony and hearing this again gives me chills. This was such a masterpiece to announce Fortuna. Like someone else said they never reached that peak again yet.
The characters on screen are actually singing the song which is why they are on beat. Look at the mouth lights
If you like We All Lift Together you must react to For Narmer and Sleeping in The Cold Below from the same videogame, warframe have such a good taste for music.
Fond memories first time I made it to Fortuna. This set the tone for the zone perfectly before Id even left my ship.
entering fortuna for the first time and not even knowing this song existed. CEMENTED my love for this song and this game omg. I have this song on repeate currently
i did listen to this for atleast hundreds of time but it gets me everytime. i have a special relationship to this game and to this song
My body operating on 2 hours of sleep and a dream
I've always seen this music video as being half diegetic, as in the characters are actually performing the song, with the exception of the entire orchestral section. That's a really interesting detail, how they make it truly sound like something they are performing as the video and song progress.
A nice bit of this that doesnt come across in the video is that the character dropping down at the end is your player character, whoever you play as and however you've customized them, and it transitions straight into gameplay! The song goes from being front and center, to a melody heard whistled, hummed, etc throughout this hub area.
song came on gave instant goosebumps
this song is so groovy i play it so often in my car
In case no one have mentioned this, but you can see that the lights on the characters times with the humming and singing.
When I first encountered this in game, I had not had it spoiled or teased for me in any way, and it caught me ENTIRELY off guard in the best way ever. Digital Extremes audio design is, in every way, absolutely incredible.
There is a sister/companion song to We all Lift called For Narmer that you should absolutely check out next.
I think you'll find some interesting consistencies and changes in the tone an melody of both songs.
(kinda wish you had done them both in the same video ngl)
Amazing reaction, now you really need to check out "For Narmer" because it is the thematic opposite/corruption of We All Lift Together, its so cool.
Basically these guys are based space Australians.
This ear worm is going to live in your head rent-free from now on
I did not find a reaction to 'For Narmer' man, would love to see you listen to them back to back :D
I love watching people react to warframe stuff
Please do more reactions on Warframe!! You have such cool takes on it and I think 'Sleeping In the Cold Below' would be awesome!
Every soundtrack in this game is an absolute masterpiece
Keith Power is an incredible composer and does most of it alone
Along with Kamil Orman-Janowski who makes the incredible music of Path of Exile, i consider Keith and Kamil to be some of the world's best video game music composers
They come up with catchy, memorable songs and lullabies all the time at a fast pace and are consistently delivering quality music that stays engraved in people's minds
Thank you Limpchicken
The fact this is an actual cutscene is crazy
I know requests should be done on patreon but I'm a broke Boi. Either way I'd love to see Tony talk about diggy diggy hole (wind rose version)
Nothing ever so far has come close to beating Fortuna, I remember back in the days when it got released, I was soooo pumped for it and still are
Shouldve used this song for my ruck marches on Camp Lejeune lol
now right after that to have some context "For Narmer" and my dreams will some true
Waframe, a game i definitely need to get back to, haven't played it in over 4 years but from what i've seen, they've done a lot with it since.
You should definitely listen to the Sleeping in the cold below, also from Warframe
On the note of Baldur's Gate 3 music, I believe you'd especially love Shadows, Curse and Death
wait until he hears the duviri music.
Dont open the chest boxes, don't open the chest boxes.
ooh, I pray someone can suggest him "For Narmer" to listen to after this and compare.
TILL WE'RE LIFELESS TOGETHER
Ordis, set course to Venus, i need to do one thing...
let's goooo
With the lyrics and meaning of this song in mind watch For narmer
its easy to miss, but you can actually see that all the guys are singing the song together. their mouths glow blue along with the lyrics.
should also listen to it's counterpart, "For Narmer"
I swear I think the design process for warframe is someone throwing darts at a list of genres and whatever they hit gets adapted to the universe as best it can be and crammed in
if you are in fortuna you must listen to the Vent Pobbers music. it's a seriously good universe development.
The corpus faction are such a strange kind of cyborg. I don't think you'll see it elsewhere, it doesn't seem practical. They have robotic heads and human bodies. They talk about people being placed into storage for not being able to pay their bills, and it sounds like they rent bodies (similar to Altered Carbon) or have to pay taxes on their bodies, but if you're going to have a robotic head why not have a robotic body, right? The head is the most valuable part of a human's biology right now. It brings into questions about their humanity, I love it.
You have to react to "For Narmer", which is like a sequel to this song
Just for a small bit of additional game info, the reason these workers have robots bits and human bits is because their limbs get repossessed if they don't make quota. Super dystopian shit.
Listen to the warframe duviri theme. Very beautiful operatic singing and stringwork.
you should defo react to "sleeping in the cold below"
Have you done sleeping in the cold below yet?
Please do Sleeping in the cold below too sometime!
You should also listen to the full version of "for narmer"(warframe).
Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to gulag we go.
Haha
The people working in the background are essentially people or children of people who are in debt to (im assuming) a faction called the Corpus. From what I understand, they are taken and forced to work here (potentially without being paid at all, but I don't know for sure) until they pay off their debts. The song itself is essentially their work song the they sing constantly whilst at work. If I correctly, whilst walking around in this area, you occasionally hear some of the workers whistling this tune.
Edit (for some reason UA-cam doesn't like it when I actually edit a comment) : for those who don't know, the liquid shown in the video isn't actually liquid but instead similar to a coolant of some sort.
I'm watching a game die before my eyes.
These poor bastards have their body parts taken as collateral until they can pay their debts. its fucked up, Screw you nef anyo!
Please do Sleeping in the cold below too sometime!
thanks for the awesome vids
Thank you!
@DrumRollTonyReacts np man! Sorry for the double comment meant to just include the other here.
now that you reacted to this one you should react to For Narmer song, you will be very surprised
Major spoiler, but when overlayed with for narmer, it brings the song a whole new meaning.
Dude, you should check out one of camellia’s songs called #1f1e33(Another long - “#ant1p01e” version) , I think you would really like it!
Still the best Warframe song/intro
Do the tempistar song from warframe!!
Please react to sequel for this song, called ''For Narmer" !
