I vaguely remember about Christmas cactus needing an area without light at a certain time, (they need to be put in darkness just to prepare for the bloom period) and many people over water their Christmas cactus or sometimes forget to water them since they require less water than the other house plants. I can not exactly remember the blooming trick, I believe it has to do with less light.

I've tried a few things myself. For now i just tear a tiny piece of paper towel and fold it a few times and wrap it on the globe tip, then place it into the soil. When you remove the globe the paper towel stays in there or is stuck to the globe and you just toss it and do a new one each time. I keep a roll of paper towels outside in my gardening bin. Another thing I've done with drinking bottles is I save a cork from a wine bottle and then drill a tiny hole down the middle of the cork so the water comes out slowly. That way when I insert the bottle with the cork into the plant all the water doesn't just fall out. I use mine in the non-succulents outside in case I don't make it out there to water them in a timely manner.

I love my globes. We split our time between homes and I'm often gone for 1 - 2 weeks, so these are perfect for me. I used to overwater and was losing plants - these prevent that. I just have to refill them when they're low - the plant takes care of the rest. To clean the dirt out of the stem, I use a q-tip since I have most of my plants in my bathroom hanging around my big window and garden tub shelves.

When trying to get stickers off glass bottles or even tin cans, you can peel sticker off best you can, then rub the remainder sticky stuff with vegetable oil or olive oil (generously) then douse baking soda over the oil and let sit for 15 mins. Warm water and a wash cloth or sponge should get it off

One thing I can’t seem to find any literature on: Does it matter where I place the watering globe? Should it be as close to the plant as possible, or between the plant and the pot’s edge? Should I push the globe in deep or leave it shallow? Does any of this make a difference?
To get the Christmas cactus to bloom, I recommend bi-weekly feedings with Miracle-Gro Succulent Food.

E6000 glue works fairly well for glassworks. It does smell for a good while. There is plastic water globes now days. And those are glass pebbles not marbles. People often use them for fake flower decorations. Along with other crafts. I use them in the kiln. But thank you for this video.

super nice ideas for plant watering when not at home or maybe if you are forgetful to water. i just now tried my water globe (only large one) using it on the largest plant in my place, a big peace lily. its tallest stem is about 33 inches from the top of the dirt when i straighten it out. Thank you for this video, i will be watching to see how many days i get. It was moist but not wet.

Love the diy bottles! I have a couple of the hydro globes but I’ve never used them.
I use espoma organic cactus! Succulent plant food to fertilize my thanksgiving cactus (I thought it was a Christmas cactus up until 2 weeks ago when I was looking at comparison pictures). I found the plant food at rural king. I’ve only had it a couple years but it did bloom around Christmas.

After a few weeks of fantasizing, I acquired and fell in love with a Venus fly trap this week!
That said, I was shopping at Ace for some Teflon tape when I spotted the globes that you spoke of - how neat!
If you happen to know whether or not they would pair well with such a plant, please let me know - thanks in advance !
    Grace & peace ✌🏼

Put your Venus Flytrap in a covered terrarium where it has constant humidity and ONLY use soil specifically designed for venus flytraps. Any other soil - and any type of fertilizer - will kill it. I have had one for almost two years (in Colorado, no less) and she is thriving. It's the special soil and the terrarium that does the truck- I am sure of it.

I agree that the flat marbles are not marbles but are glass globs or glass nuggets or glass pebbles. When glass is poured into sheets, these are the left overs. I used to buy them at places where I got my glass when I did stained-glass.

to get a christmas cactus to bloom you need to put it in a darker space. Not completely dark but darker. We move ours in august. Im in Kentucky so that gets ours blooming around christmas. Move it back to its regular space when the blooms are set.

David Mascali is correct - in order to bloom, a Christmas cactus needs chilly weather - if you live somewhere that is always warm, putting your.cactus in the refrigerator will help it bloom. It sounds a little crazy but it works.

It is not clear what you used instead of the mesh/net to prevent blocking the tube, and how to do that .
Do larger globes or bottles provide longer watering periods? Like 2 or 3 weeks ? Are there bottles with looong necks on sale somewhere for deep pots ?
    Thanks again.🌺

I keep a water try underneath for when I do empty my water glass in the plant or when I do a deep water of all of my plants. We live in a very dry area, so a deep water every once in a while is still necessary.

@@t.terrell7037 I fill the bottles and stick them in the ground. Some dirt will get into the neck. You’ll see small bubbles when the water is being released. If theres too many bubbles and water is releasing fast I put it in again so more dirt gets in the neck and it’ll come out slower. Sometimes I make plant food water and do that so it gets in the roots.
