Dear Stuart, thank you for this video. It's just a pitty that grinding is not as easy as it looks in your videos... ;) This method will be very helpful to decorate a bowie-style blade some time soon. Still I certainly have to go through a lot of practice to get some acceptable results... Best regards, Timo
TR Cellar Knives it's all about practice. no one showed me how to do this. my first few were atrocious. but it's not hard to master. steady hands brother, steady hands
Great info Stuart! I'm curious about how the small wheel is attached, does it has bearings on the sides or you just stuck the axle of the wheel directly inside the holes of the holder. Thank you very much!
Mr. Smith, I Sent a few emails and have not heard back just wondering if you received them also one of my emails was in reguards to a knife purchase or price for the build. Thanks in advance, Martin Moldovan at M/S Blacksmithing and Blades
Stuart, Can a fuller be put in with a file? Can you send me some African Black wood I would be willing to pay for shipping if need be.Thanks and great video , Martin Moldovan at M/S Blacksmithing and Blades
Not really with files but a specialised scraping tool like they do with japanese swords. If you are keen on some wood please send me a PM on my FaceBook fan Page : Smith Hand Forged Knives
Mr, smith I do not face book is it possible to get an email please. Yes I am very Keen as you say to aquire some wood and other stuff I have seen you use. By the way email would be easier to converse anyway. Thanks Martin Moldovan at M/S Blacksmithing and Blades
I’m making a knife at the moment, I’m half way through filing the fullers. It can be done, but it’s very slow going in order to get them straight and even depth. I used a scribe with a hardened steel pin to scrape the lines deep enough for the first small file to follow, then I use a slightly bigger file etc.
Stuart Can I have your e mail it would be much easier to converse by email on account I do not facebook. Yes I am keen as you say on acquiring some woods and other stuff I have seen you use. You are an inspiration to me and I like your channel a lot. you always go into great depth giving lots of info. You also mentioned a tool to scrape in a fuller do you now the name of it ?Thank you ,Martin Moldovan at M/S Blacksmithing and Blades
Hello,
nice tutorial and really nice freehand grinding skill; you made it so straight!
Thumbs up!
You make it look so easy!!! Like butter!!
Dude looks and sounds exactly like the character Bajie from Into The Badlands. Hell yeah
Free hand grinding. just awesome. Thanks StuartS.
Thanks. I was wondering how to do this. Another great reason to watch your channel.
Probably unfair of you to make it look so easy. :)
this is what mills are for.great video bro. love them all keep up the great work.
Nice grinder, made quick work of that. I though ppl used a surface grinder with a stone grinding wheel. Seen it done that way
You made that looks so easy! Very well done!
Very good

Good job on the video Stewart. They keep getting better. And a very good explanation on grinding in fullers. Have you done a video forging one in?
Perfect video. Thanks!
Thanks Stuart!

👏👍
Nice!
I know this is an older video, but is there a video or a shot of the finished seax?
Great vid, really explains it well and you make it look so effortless. Curious, what thickness of steel were you using there? Looks to be 1/4"?
EM613 6mm
g8 vid m8.
How bout a ball end mill in the milling machine? Something like fluting a rifle barrell? Thanks for the vid
G.
I've done that method as well. But I don't have a mill in my shop.

Albaro San Martin it does have small bearings to hold it in place
Thank you Stuart! your work is superb keep it up!
Great video! What grit did you use to start the fullers? You removed a serious amount of steel quickly. Thanks Stuart
I use a 36 grit but a 60 or 80 will work just as well. Because the wheel is so small it naturally removes material faster.
now how about a tapered fuller? there's a challenge!

I did get them, very sorry for the late response. I am very busy with Blade show knives and am very distracted. I sent you a mail just now.

may I ask what i the purpose of a fuller?
Makes the blade lighter while increacing the over all strength.
