    I think I'm in love with East Vineland's tractor drawn tanker.

    There are dozens of tractor drawn tankers throughout NJ. Most of NJ fire departments in central and southern Jersey run tankers.

    Most tankers like that will get parked and act as a nurse tanker. Theres one that is sort of local to the department I run with and its holds 6,000 gallons. All the smaller tankers run between the fills sites because they are often easier to get turned around in, and then when they get back they can pump off their load just as easy.

    Sunbury, Pa's Goodwill hose company has 2 darker blue fire engines in their barn.

    I take it this is a drill. Or a very expensive way to wash down the parking lot. Are they syphoning the water from one basin to the other with the large black hose? Lots of neat ideas and vehicles.

    1:30 one of the first times I have ever seen a fire truck painted that Blue color, well admit, that kinda looks out of place....

      I see a good many white trucks with blue stripes, but not many all out blue ones. I believe one of the recently retired trucks in the district next to ours was blue with a gold stripe

      Yeah, that department, Mitzpah, has always run all blue fire engines. They all have always had nicknames too. The Blue Typhoon, Big Blue, The Blue Giant, and their most recent engine, Lil' Blue.

    God I hated the dreaded water shuttle for rating purposes. In my 20 years we never once had to do a water shuttle with the portable tanks. We had so much mutual aid was never needed. Came close 1 time but we luckily we had 2 hydrants we used out 3 inch line. They started switching to 5 inch after I left

    2:13 So I admit the old lady firefighter needs to retire, but dang, look at that gal nest to her, and this was three and a half years ago. We're probably about the same age. Meanwhile, Aerosmith loops one verse in the back of my head "Dream on, dream on"

    • @Keaton0801
      @Keaton0801 4 роки тому +1

      These are volunteer departments. There is no set age to retire for the most part unless the department has an age policy. When I was in high school, I had a teacher who was a volunteer fire fighter. They don't get paid at all. Although the paramedics get a paycheck, it isn't much of one.

    Do not see many departments or divisions with that many women. Most the time when I watch ff videos, they are covered and in action. Couple of lovely ladies there, couple of older women, thanks for your service ladies.
    What model is that semi-tanker?

    • @highping1786
      @highping1786 Рік тому

      At our local vfd women started joining and driving the men crazy with drama, so most of the men quit. After the men left the women couldn't handle hard labor and now out taxes went up to convert to a paid department.

    • @nphil93992

      Yeah but that ladder 15 will empty the semi tanker in less than 10 minutes so its only good if they can keep the supply up

  • @johnmoenster9995

    Why did they block in the biggest tanker in they shuttle?

    • @kevino3866
      @kevino3866 9 років тому +5

      John Moenster Probably cause this is only a training exercise and the fact the tank can hold near 12,000 gallons of water. There is no need to leave and get more, since they can hold nearly 4 times as much as the small trucks. I am sure if this was a real working fire, they wouldn't block the big truck in!

      +kevin O it also makes for one really big on site storage tank. It takes the place of 4 to 6 drop tanks.

    I'm just curious. How do you create the syphon between the porta ponds? Not all that familiar with tanker operations.

    • @kennyt957
      @kennyt957 9 років тому +6

      marc bach It's a jet siphon appliance that operates as a venturi. An 1 3/4' hand line feeds into the appliance (jet siphon) and sends water through the hard sleeve (hard suction) and creates a siphon effect. It's "about" a 5:1 ratio.. So, if you pump 100 gallons through the 1 3/4" jet siphon line, you can expect 5 times that to arrive on the other side. I hope that helps.

    • @kennyt957
      @kennyt957 9 років тому +2

      marc bach If you want to see the device, At 7:33 minutes into the video they're hooking up a low level strainer that is equipped with the jet siphon connection.

      @the_once-and-future_king. Рік тому

      It's similar to those hose car wash guns with the detergent bottles. The water flowing over the pick-up tube draws up a small amount of the detergent (though obviously in the ponds the ratio is reversed.)

    Silly question. But what are the water bins used for.

    • @PepperLewisAndCo
      @PepperLewisAndCo 6 років тому +1

      The water bins are used to hold water so multiple engines can draft water from them and it allows tankers to empty and go back for more water, cutting down the time spent sitting while the fire engine empties the tanker.

      Wheres there ppe. If there training, they should be training as if it was the real thing. And it was a stupid place to put that blue truck. Should of left more room for tanker traffic.

    • @ruralram100
      @ruralram100 3 роки тому +1

      @@kyleerickson1789 that blue fire engine was up against the grass and they were far enough from the corner that the tankers could make the turn and get by without any issues especially being on a nice wider two lane entrance
