It makes me happy that you don't use click bait titles for your videos. I think it's a good value for you to retain. I admit I didn't notice that initially, but I will add it to the list of reasons I subscribed. Also, I wonder if the Hans Gruber who fell from the skyscraper was any relation to the Hans Gruber who got offed by Derek Flint in a French john back in the 60s. Food for thought (bouillabaisse, anyone?).
Hahahahahaha! Hey man, if I ever use clickbait to test it, I’m literally writing “this is a clickbait title” right on the title! Hahahaha. I just can’t do bring myself to do it seriously! Thanks so much for the sub!
Yess i would love to see how you record, your levels, distances from the mic, ect. How you get your sound is more than interesting. Thanks for this video and Channel
Hey! I do have a video that shows the behind the scenes of me writing the sE4100 song right from inception to completion. It’s part of my members only videos. Perhaps I’ll do another one with more attention to how I get the sound. Cheers!
Can’t wait for volume 3 of your Field Recording Series!! Hope you pick up a BUNCH of sponsors in 2025, because I don’t want you to have to resort to the clickbait cringe. Your videos are fantastic on so many levels. Happy new year, sir!
You are the single cause of me modding my NT1-A with a k47 capsule and buying an sE T2. These things have been like a prophecy from God, saving me from a perilous realm I couldn't map the entrance to. But really, you're one of my favourite channels on UA-cam for so many reasons, all directly attributed to you as a person. I sincerely appreciate your work for education and entertainment.
A year of great reviews, thank you! You helped me spend lots of money; as I purchased (because of your reviews) the Stam SA87i (fantastic, finally arrived last week, ordered in July!), SE 4100 (amazing), Roswell K87 (remarkable, and in black speckle!), and other stuff before 2024. But there's one item that sends me into spasms of joy that I would sell my soul for: Krotos Studio. Your review was just about a year ago (end of 2023, start of 2024?) Doesn't matter. I told my wife that I love you for introducing me to Krotos, even though she knows that I am not gay. It almost prompted me to suggest to her that we move to Canada, out of honorary respect for you. And of course, the much loved gastrointestinal emissions moments that lifted you far above the UA-cam crowd. Happy New Year!
Hahahahahahaha! Oh man, I wasn’t expecting that last part. Hahaha. Well done! I’m so glad to hear you received your SA-87i! The Krotos stuff is so wicked. I’ll be doing some neat stuff with it soon! Thanks, as always, for being a great dude and watching my little videos! Happy New Year, man! Cheers!
Happy new year my friend (yes I consider you as one). 🎉 Thanks for an amazing salsa of humour, top notch facts and reviews and loads of plugins bought influenced by your advices. I am a time preservation traveller and I measure... let's see, unlimited. My interest for this channel is simply unlimited.
I try to avoid clicking on anything with a stupid surprise face, so thank you for never giving me a reason not to click on a TPS video. On to 100,0000! P.S. Double yes to recording process reveal!
Oh man. I tell you, my friend. It’s so awesome. Like little physical plugins. There are tons of flavors to choose from and by a few companies. You could even go for console flavors like SSL, Neve, or API. Do you do any soldering?
@ then you’re in luck! The Colour Duo was my first build ever. I’ve build a few other preamps since, but this remains the easiest ever. The instructions should seriously win awards. Best I’ve ever seen. I didn’t need to ask for support because I was stuck or anything like that. I DID make an error that was completely my fault. But DIYRE sorted me out extraordinarily fast. I think you’re going to love it!
I'm a new subscriber to your channel and have a question if you have time. I've started doing audiobook narration but I need to move my laptop far away from my mic to reduce the noise floor. What device will let me use my recording software (Audacity) without being able to see it on the computer screen? Thank you!
Well, I don’t know much about Audacity because I tried it once and felt like I was transported back to 1995. I use Logic or Studio one. Both come with free tablet or smart phone controller companion apps. They can control your computer remotely. This is the way I do it. In fact, in my booth, I have an old iPad 4 that controls my computer which is 30 feet away. Beyond that, I’m not sure what to suggest. Sorry about that!
Here is an extremely hard question for you. I have tried the MKH 416, loved the sound, too expensive, would like the same sound in a smaller package. Didn't like the sm7b, too "scratchy" on my voice, there's a higher frequency part that makes my voice sound odd. Did love the sm57 with the presidential Grey Bump. What mic do you recommend for me? I am going for rich, syrupy but not boomy. Male.
Hey there! Yes. That’s a hard question! Haha. Well, is it the top end presence in the 416 that you’re talking about? A lot of times, I would simply use an EQ boost at about 7.2-8kHz to get that sizzle. Bright mics are tricky because most of them sound brittle. Or if they sound good then they’re either similarly priced to the 416 or even more (Neumann TLM-103 etc). To help me guide you better, I need more information. 1. Dynamic or condenser? 2. Price range? 3. Saturated or clean and clear? 4. For what application? Many people enjoy the Lewitt 440 due to its very bright top end. If money was no object I might suggest the Atlantis on forward setting or the TLM-103. The easiest way is to find a mic that takes EQ well and create a preset EQ. It’s seldom that I will use the sound straight out of a mic. I always add some sparkle at 7.2 kHz and 12 or 16 kHz. Anyway, let me know the answers and I’ll help guide you better!
@@TheRecordist Hey! I am mostly interested in a cardioid/supercardioid dynamic (maybe even ribbon) that gives asome nice rich lows and controlled mids/highs. Had something weird going on with the sm7b which you couldn't find a jury to convict on being too bright. Got fabfilter 3 so whatever can be EQd I suppose I have the tool to... Mostly spoken word by the way!
Hey man. I will endeavor to do so! I do have a video where I show how I do a song from conception to completion but it’s for members only. I’ll try and make one for everyone. Thanks and Happy New Year!

That overhead shot of the Colour Duo board with all the Colour modules is so cool. That would make a really neat poster.
You know, you’re right! It looks really cool!

Oh yes, the reason why not just stick with the sm57, I donated it to a school and want to try something new.
