Bob made a mistake. The last number _couldn't_ be the 5 in front of her; she was just on that space. Her choices where the 2 to her right, or the 0 behind her. Bob was standing on the 2, which lit up and probably made the losing sound go off. Also, I love Bob's sense of humor. "She's so excited, I'm afraid to show her the prize!"
This contestant's excitement was so fresh, beautifully refreshing, and so naturally unabashing, she was very beautiful to me and the crowd loved her. And Bob responded in the way Bob we all know and love. I can watch this over and over again.☺
+FlagDUDE08 The first one who won perfectly was back in 1987, but Bob Barker got it wrong where he said 1986. This was when Pathfinder started in 1987 where the contestant steps through the numbers and won perfectly in the very first game without having a mistake. Pathfinder, still the best game of the show.
lol bob barker was the one who made that sound since he was standing on the other number and he didn't even realize it, he basically gave her the answer
Bob made a mistake and it was his fault. She was supposed to pick between 0 or 2, not the five and the reason the buzzer went off was because he was standing on the 2. You see it light up and the buzzer go off.
+SNola70 She still would've won. No regular viewer would pick the 2, cars prices on the show always end in a 9, 0 or 5. I can only think of one time in hundreds of shows I've seen where that wasn't the case.
The correct number was 2. But since Bob was standing on it they changed it to the zero for her to win. Bob is standing on it and it turns green for the win but the lady is standing on 0 and it buzzes incorrect. Then the control board operator switches it real fast to 0 for her to win. I am sure over the stage microphones they were all yelling, "Bob is standing on the winning number" "He gave the wrong information to the lady" "WHAT DO WE DO?" ROFL
How so? She still stepped on the correct number, thus winning. Doesn't matter if he messed up, she still earned it and her spot as the third perfect player of the game.
I always laugh when Bob consults Roger on historic moments. It's like "There's no way he can remember all of that, they must be making it up." But no, they actually remember that stuff..
For those of you who didn't know it, Bob had actually signed an extension to his contract back in 2006 to keep hosting TPIR for another 5 years. Had he not decided, or rather, been "forced" to retire the following year (2007), by the time that 5 year extension would've ran out, he would've been approaching 90-years-old. So as bad as we as childhood fans hate it, maybe it was time for him to put it down. Besides, from watching numerous tapings from his final two or three years (2004-2007), I could see that he was wearing out, not to mention becoming more forgetful.
Oh it was hurtful to hear him retire back when I was in high school but the older you get you make slight mistakes that people forget about when you are younger we knew looking now bob was mistake prone like forgetting the contestants 500 dollars occasionally, or a mistake like that on pathfinder, amongst other things lucky bob leaned us into his life with his biography it’s so hurtful to know one of these days he’s going to pass away when we least expect
@@JWaynejones89 Right you are, and we LFATs (Loyal Friends and True) will never forget him. I'm just hoping he'll make it his 100th birthday in December. That would sure be a blessing. 😇
However, this was one of his best jobs of shepherding a contestant who was losing it through the segment, without making fun of her, without torturing her. There were too many "Now you have a driver's license, do you?" "You could use a new car, is that right?" before revealing the final step to determine whether or not it was a win on other episodes. She was actually quite cool playing the game. I think she was hysterical over being on the stage with THE Bob Barker. If I've been watching him since I was a little kid in the 1950's, she certainly must have always been aware of Bob Barker since she tarted watching TV. I am sorry he is so old and sick now, though I hope he makes it to his 100th birthday, and that he can, in some way, celebrate.
@@gnirolnamlerf593 I certainly hope he makes it December 12th also. Incidentally, both he and my late grandmother shared a birthday. My grandmother was six years older than Bob. She would've been 105 years old today.
I think two mistakes were made, first Bob pointing out the 5 as one of her choices,it wasn't as it had been used already, second they activated the board before Bob got off the 2 so it seemed as though that's the number she stepped on,triggering the lose sound.
She was suppose to choose between the Two and the Zero at the end, but Bob told her Five and Zero while he stepped on the Two himself and triggered the Wrong Sound but in actuality she won because she picked Zero
Also notice that the number 2 under Bob's feet lit up just as Martina stepped back. Perhaps that is why the horn went off. Bob probably set it off by standing on the 2.
If everyone noticed, when that weird noise went off, the number 2 that Bob is standing on lights up when they say she won the car. Now there are two possibilities, 1- she actually did not win, but they gave it to her anyway because they wanted another history breaker for the books. Or number 2- Bob is standing on the number 4 which triggered the sensor in the floor to say it was wrong ,but she was actually standing on the correct number anyway which confused the system. Just though I would point those things out. Love this show!
Another note…he said that she could choose the 5 in front of her or the 0 behind her. He should have said the 2 on her right or the 0 behind her. Perhaps they were lighting it up to remind him that it was 2/0
Good observation, but ... the numbers in the background light up the "0." Don't think they could have changed that number that quickly. Just my observation, though.
I think that since bob was standing on the 2 and since he didn't give her that option is why they gave it to her. That being said, she had another chance and the only way to go was to the 2. either way, be sure to fix your pets
Back in 1977 or so, I had a handheld electronic game called Amaze-A-Tron that was very similar to this. The game had a 5x5 array of squares numbered 1-25, and you would put a green marker on a starting square and a red marker on a finishing square that the computer would randomly select. Then you would have to try to find the correct path between the 2 squares. A corect move would cause a song to play, and an incorrect move would make a "raspberry" sound.
Bob was standing on the 2, which caused it to go off. I have read that the technicians on the show are always really scrambling to make sure Pathfinder goes off without a hitch.
lmfao i love her reaction when she just got on stage with Bob. it was priceless. had me laughing the hardest i ever had since 2012. anyways , Bob said 5 at the end when it was 2 and he himself stepped on the 2 by accident which was why there was that loser sound even though she was right.
Bob Barker accidentally stepped on the wrong square, and that "loser" sound went off accidentally, and "win" for the correct number, for that contestant.
Looking at the font of the numbers, I believe the numbers in the top display, where the correct numbers light up in the upper back, are, basicaly, concrete. Those numbers are set in place, previous to taping, in a concealed manner, and can NOT be changed. So to all who believe she was wrong, YOU are wrong. The sound effects people were wrong, they confused EVERYONE, and that lead up to the inflammatory (and WRONG) comments.
Here is what happened. Bob, being old (he has the right to be), pointed at the five she had been on (which could not be the next number), mentioned the Zero behind her, and stood on the other actual option of the 2. His being on the 2 activated it before she hit the 0, which means he triggered the system to register a wrong step. The sound effects people did nothing, Bob is the one who did it.
TxSonofLiberty NO. I saw the mistake Bob made (3:40). "Being old" has no bearing; it's called an HONEST MISTAKE. No matter what he did, the contestant stepped to the right number. The price of the car was $21,590. The sound effects people were WRONG. Reread my original comment, and you will understand that Bob did NOT trigger anything incorrectly via his own misstep, and that'll explain the whole situation. Any train of thought beyond these simple explanations is egregiously off the track.
If we take this minor error as a sign of Bob Barker "losing it" in his later years, it's only because he was so very, very good at a very, very challenging job for so long.
I don't see a crazy Contestant!? I see a gorgeous, excited Contestant who was sure of her guesses and stepped correctly, without hesitation, each time. I see Bob Barker stepping on the "two" (which was a choice) which set off the "wrong" sound effect and they had to give her the win manually.
Bob seems to have a short term memory. The first time Pathfinder was played perfectly was back in 1987 when it premiered or was played for the first time ever and it has happened a lot since then but not often.
It was actually 1987 on the day the game premiered! The first playing of the game saw the contestant go straight through without having to use a do-over. That contestant won a car worth $7,983. The middle space was the symbolic daisy, and the display had a $ in the first space. You still had to step on four numbers. Ever since the playing in this video, it has been accomplished more times than before Bob retired.
The actual thing about this situation is that Bob Barker gave one of the numbers that was already lit up. I believe that is why you heard the synth trombone sound on the keyboard, signaling the wrong choice in the pricing game. Anyway, whoever was supposed to be the sound producer hit the wrong key and went and corrected it.
I think that's probably why they goofed on the sound, cause they heard Bob screw up the choice. But the number was CLEARLY "0", as you saw it light up in the back. They slide those numbers into place beforehand, and I know they can't adjust them on the fly.
Bob screwed up and gave her the wrong choices. It was supposed to be the 2 or the 0, not the 5 or the 0. When she stepped back onto the 0 they hit the fail button but they lit up the 2 showing he made an error, and then rang the victory bell after, as you can see they took a bit of time to edit the price and enter a 0 on the back screen. Any screw up on Bob's part or the functionality of the games that causes the contestant to choose incorrectly means it is an automatic win for the contestant.
The one million dollar (spectacular) question is... Did Bob's accidental mistake ruin the moment or make it unique by creating suspense? Here's the sweet: Bob did say 5 or 0 even if five was already lit up (he should have said "2 or 0") Bob was standing on the 2 (he should have standed elsewhere like on the 1 or where the transparent CBS logo is) and it probably caused the buzzer to go off as the 2 did mistakenly light up (after the chosen number became the 0 which was the right choice where the contestant was standing on) Bob has taken that as an error until TPiR theme started playing as he seems to not have heard the dings that played immediately after the buzzer (and the full 21590 appeared on the green display which has the font face used in Candy Crush¹) and the correct dings started playing later upon Bob realising that the mistake was not even made Not actually a technical win but actually a Bobnical difficulty. We aren't all perfect, imperfections can happen all the time. In the end she's got a 21590 dollar vehicle so all the excitement paid off. ¹i've played the four Candy Crush incarnations for years and I can also tell that the font for the display in Pathfinder is called Candice
this is correct. the buzzer was for bob's incorrect selection of the 2. when the contestant selects the 0, it lights up on the price board behind, thus indicating that it was the correct selection the whole time.
Bob: Before we go on, I always like to point out historic moments on The Price is Right. Roger, like when I made a complete buffoon of myself while playing Pathfinder.
@@graveyard63 damn, I had forgotten all about this! I’ve met Bob Barker a couple of times and I don’t really remember how much taller he was than I am, but I’m just over 6 ft, so that’s probably true, haha!
+exyi Still, like others said, she would have chosen zero anyways. Assuming she knew he was supposed to say 2 or 0, she would have asked him to step off the 2, if she really believed that was it. So, if Bob had been standing on a zero, and told her the choice was between 5 and 2, then she might have pointed out his error. However, the girl was so excited, I doubt she would have noticed the mistake.
@@litigioussociety4249 - The other crazy note about this is, Bob is standing on the 2 which was the original winning number. It turns green when they hit the button because he is standing on it. LOL The control room quickly switches it to zero and gives her the win so not to make Bob look bad.
Bob messed it up overall. He forgot to mention the 2, which knocked off the whole narration for the Pathfinder tech. When she stepped on 0, the tech was thrown off thinking she stepped on 2. Thanks Bob.

Damn, Martina is hella fine. Whomever she ended up with is lucky.
imagine the car she won was a Nissan Pathfinder?
wow
I'm surprised I haven't seen that joke until now. Goddammit
Bob Barker! The price is WRONG! watch your step next time!
Psycho-dragon The Price is Wrong, bitch.
Holly said Bob was a pervert, always hitting on the girls. Then the other girls came forward and said "yeah he hit on us too."
I won this game on the Price is Right back in 1931. No mistakes.
If I was on the price is right with my favorite host Bob barker was still alive I will do that the same thing just like the other contestant did
What year was this? The backdrop looks like the 35 year Anniversary. Was this close to Bob's retirement?
This is the pricing game where it sounds like a robot is farting when you make the wrong move.
The one million dollar (spectacular) question is... Did Bob's accidental mistake ruin the moment or make it unique by creating suspense?
Here's the sweet:
Bob did say 5 or 0 even if five was already lit up (he should have said "2 or 0")
Bob was standing on the 2 (he should have standed elsewhere like on the 1 or where the transparent CBS logo is) and it probably caused the buzzer to go off as the 2 did mistakenly light up (after the chosen number became the 0 which was the right choice where the contestant was standing on)
Bob has taken that as an error until TPiR theme started playing as he seems to not have heard the dings that played immediately after the buzzer (and the full 21590 appeared on the green display which has the font face used in Candy Crush¹) and the correct dings started playing later upon Bob realising that the mistake was not even made
Not actually a technical win but actually a Bobnical difficulty.
We aren't all perfect, imperfections can happen all the time.
In the end she's got a 21590 dollar vehicle so all the excitement paid off.
¹i've played the four Candy Crush incarnations for years and I can also tell that the font for the display in Pathfinder is called Candice
Someone won without a mistake on an episode in June... I forgot which day, but, has there been more than 4 w/out mistakes?
this is correct. the buzzer was for bob's incorrect selection of the 2. when the contestant selects the 0, it lights up on the price board behind, thus indicating that it was the correct selection the whole time.
BOB MESSED UP THE MOMENT 8(
His confused "what" made it better though.
Bob: Before we go on, I always like to point out historic moments on The Price is Right. Roger, like when I made a complete buffoon of myself while playing Pathfinder.
The strange sound was because you were standing on the incorrect "2", Bob! Haha Drew is good but it's just not the same anymore.
That sound was also used on Trivia Trap when a trap was revealed.
"Despite the loser sound we heard" lmao
I think they let her have it was just 2 of a difference
Wow! She's really tall! Bob Barker is not a short man.
It says Bob Barker is 6 1, so maybe shes like 6 3, wow
@@graveyard63 damn, I had forgotten all about this! I’ve met Bob Barker a couple of times and I don’t really remember how much taller he was than I am, but I’m just over 6 ft, so that’s probably true, haha!
@@smoothALOE Yea shes very tall then shes lucky
@@graveyard63 well, hopefully she has had great success over these past several years.
Bob messed up she choose 5 already so 5 was not a choice the choice was suppose to be 2 or 0 not 5 or 0
+exyi Still, like others said, she would have chosen zero anyways.
That "strange sound" at 3:57 was you stepping on the 2 at 3:43, Bob
Bob messed it up overall. He forgot to mention the 2, which knocked off the whole narration for the Pathfinder tech. When she stepped on 0, the tech was thrown off thinking she stepped on 2. Thanks Bob.
The options were obviously 2 or 0, as you said. He does step on it, and it lights up. I agree that that is why it buzzed.
