    Thank you. I recommend not to reset adaptions. An engine coming from the factory still has to do some individual learning. It is mostly about good idle and closed loop mixture. That process takes some time and after it has done so you should keep it. It does not interfere with the tuning map at all. The map removes restrictions in all gears. There is some gain all over the rev band. But mostly above 5000 rpm where stock map restrictions are really bad. There it adds about 25 hp.

    • @watchapexmedia
      @watchapexmedia  4 місяці тому +2

      It really does work, as that is what I and others have used. When it tells you to use the "twist grip switch" you realise you have to twist it closed? It has a couple of mm of travel in that direction, which is how you can turn off the cruise without using the brakes while riding. It needs to detect all of the switches in the CC circuit. Also, the Rocket doesn't have a cruise on/off button, so you'd ignore those in the TuneECU list. The instructions for the Rocket should be:
      With the ignition ON and the engine not running:
      - Activate front brake switch
      - Activate Rear brake switch
      - Activate Clutch switch
      - Twist grip switch (in the closed position, i.e., twist it all the way forward)
      - Activate cruise accelerate switch
      - Activate cruise decelerate switch, and if the CC light goes out the CC is reset.

    • @watchapexmedia
      @watchapexmedia  2 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately they all come like that from the factory. Even with Penner’s tune, you still have the top speed limit, rev limit and the throttle bodies start to close at high speed as well. Allegedly the DNK tune removes some of those, and the TuneECU developer can cut you a tune that removes the speed limiter, but I’m happy with the stock Penner. As for max speed runs, who wants to do that on a naked bike anyway? 🤷‍♂️😏

    Hello, does the OBDLink MX+ and TuneEcu Android version work, and can it be used to clear service intervals and error codes.

    For example, China AliExpress, for example this vLinker MC

    • @watchapexmedia
      @watchapexmedia  Рік тому +1

      Yes, the OBDlink LX and MX/MX+ are what the TuneECU author recommends for use with the Android app, which is the only one supported anymore. They can reset the service interval, clear codes, trigger ABS brake bleed etc etc and more as the author adds functions to the app. I picked the MX+ as for the extra dollars you get lifetime access to manufacturer specific modules (mostly cars) so you can plug it into just about anything and not be restricted to standard OBDII codes. Now, there are some more generic devices that have worked (go search the TuneECU forum on Facebook), but it’s hit and miss. I figured I’d spent tens of thousands of $$$ on the bike, I should not try and save $50 on a no name reader. My 2c anyway… Thanks for watching! 😄

    @Apex Media: I am pulling my hair out because of the Cruise Control on my Rocket 3 GT (2022) not engaging. I haven't got the connector for the OBD2 to connect Tune ECU yet, but my regular OBD2 reader doesn't put any error codes out. Yet, I cannot get cruise control to turn on. I've checked all the basic stuff, and I've tried the button press sequence that I have: Front Brake, Back Break, Clutch, Throttle backward, Cruise +, Cruise -. It doesn't seem to do anything. Is that the wrong sequence? I'd be eternally grateful if you can help me out.
    My nearest Triumph dealer is over 4 hours away and can't get me in for 3 weeks.

    • @watchapexmedia
      @watchapexmedia  Рік тому

      Is the cruise control on the dash lit up? That’s what tells you it needs calibrating and you shouldn’t need to pull codes. And it seems (from your list) you’ve missed a button press or two. From the TuneECU manual, I read:
      Ignition key ON engine not running, then:
      Cruise control OFF
      Activate front brake switch
      Activate Rear brake switch
      Activate Clutch switch
      Twist grip switch (throttle in the closed position)
      Activate cruise ON/Off switch
      Activate cruise accelerate switch
      Activate cruise decelerate switch, if the CC light goes out the CC is reset.
      Try that out and see how you go.

    • @watchapexmedia
      @watchapexmedia  Рік тому

      Yes, it’s an auto-adapting engine and resetting the adaptions should be fine. Except it wasn’t, as it threw the crank angle sensor out and it needed it’s own procedure to calibrate, just riding it didn’t fix it. I am not sure it was “just” resetting the adaptions that did it, or whether it was because I interrupted the start when it took a long time cranking without starting. Either way, all good once I worked it out…

    We done adaptations reset on 765rs and with TuneECU and we have same crankshaft error. We followed the same procedure you did but the engine never stops rev up and down sequence. It's going forever. So it's not resetting crankshaft position. I don't know why.

    • @watchapexmedia
      @watchapexmedia  10 місяців тому

      The Rocket manual says it should stop after 10 cycles if it can’t calibrate. From the manual: “The diagnostic tool will allow the test to operate with the throttle held open for a maximum of 10 seconds (approximately 10 cycles). If adaption is not completed in this time, the test will stop and you will be prompted to close the throttle and turn the ignition OFF. Note any on-screen messages and investigate the cause before attempting to restart the test.” So maybe you have a sensor issue you need to diagnose?

    Does remapping void the factory warranty?

    • @watchapexmedia
      @watchapexmedia  2 роки тому +1

      Good question. Consumer law is different country to country. Triumph will have an overarching "no modifications allowed" stick they'd try to wield, but that's like saying you lose your warranty from switching from Avons to Metzelers. :-) So here under our laws they would have to prove the modification directly contributed to the failure. For example, the cracked TFT display issue some folks have had would have to be covered as it's unrelated to an engine tune. Same with the faulty ABS modules that were in a bad batch. Now, powertrain problems like stripped gears, early wear on a clutch, you probably don't have a leg to stand on. And your dealer plays a pretty big part in it, and mine is pretty good - sales guy wanted to find out how much better it was once I tuned it! So I suggest having a chat with your local dealer and feel out their appetite to go to bat for you, and check your local consumer laws. Thanks for watching.

    Does an ecu tune on these void the warranty?

    • @watchapexmedia
      @watchapexmedia  2 роки тому +1

      Technically, yes. But it does depend on where you are and your consumer laws. The burden of proof would be on Triumph to prove that the tune has caused whatever failure you are having them rectify. Fairly straightforward for them if it's drivetrain related, a pretty long bow to try and deny something like the ABS modules they are replacing under warranty being related to a custom tune... :-)
      So where I live, my Triumph dealer is fine with it. Had it's annual service a week or so ago and as I'd discussed the tune with them in the past, they told me they had loaded up new software in the ECU and BT module and to go ride the bike and see if it was responding properly, and if not they said I'd probably have to reload my tune.

In the manual it says to run 95 Ron which is equivalent to 91 octane but it also said it’s designed to run 87 octane on the same page. Some forums say the 95 Ron is for folks in Europe but the American versions are able to run 87 octane. I ran a couple tanks with 87 and a couple tanks with 93. I’m in Texas. With 87 I got noticeably better fuel mileage using the same riding style. Just curious as to what you run before and after the tune

      @@TheTyrone1981 hey Ty, I have always put 98 in it but have been thinking of alternating between 95 and 98 with the price of fuel these days! Didn’t change anything after the tune. The owners manual and all the stickers on the bike all said min 95 here. The only place I could find that said the lower octane was ok was the service manual, but as that was probably updated by Triumph from older manuals rather than written from scratch, I’m guessing that’s maybe not accurate.

      I have an OBDLink MX+, but the LX works as well and is cheaper. They are the ones recommended by TuneECU. Other BT OBD devices work, but are not fully tested by the software author so might be hit and miss. The TuneECU Facebook forum has lots of posts from people who got others working.

      @@comecalle8932 The basic 25 Euro license is all you need, and it allows you to register and tune 5 bikes. The Pro version just allows unlimited bikes, and also allows you remove the speed limiter and raise the redline. Not sure I'd want to do extremely high speeds on a naked bike anyway... 🙂

    "Savage" is the right word for the de-restricted Rocket. Ulf's tune transforms the bike into the beast it should have been from the outset. My only question is: Why did Triumph limit the machine's power in the first place? I would not want to back to 165 ponies after having tasted the full power of the machine.

      Glad you’re McLovin’ it! I suspect they primarily limited it to make it more manageable for more riders, and for drivetrain longevity. Although looking at the drive shaft compared to the old Rocket, not sure that’s an issue! But maybe they did it to leave a little something on the table for the aftermarket to unlock… Thanks for watching!

    I don't understand the risk of messing up your ECU, with such a powerful bike out of the box, not to mention your Warrnty is worthless now I'm picking up a 2023 Rocket-R in two weeks..and leaving it stock, no need to mess with Engine perfection.

    • @watchapexmedia
      @watchapexmedia  5 місяців тому

      Well for starters, I wasn't the first to do it, and made sure others trod the path in advance. Second, out of the hundreds of tables in the ECU, it only alters the throttle mappings, so fairly low risk. Lastly, I spoke to my Triumph dealer and they said that while Triumph would probably push back if there were drivetrain issues, they'd find it difficult to void warranty claims for unrelated issues. Like spongy brakes, leaky forks, cracked dashes etc. They even told me at the first annual service I'd need to reload my tune as they'd flashed the ECU. And It's now 10 months out of warranty and going strong!

      @@watchapexmedia Naturally Fiddling with the ECU is not going to void a brake, lights or, even transmission issue etc. But just messing with the ECU, with no real need to do it, is frankly taking a risk of some China made garbage part from amazon messing with the computer.
      Anyway, since I'm getting a Rocket soon, I subscribed to your channel.

      @@elithegreat6463 I totally agree, I'm not strapping some $45 magic box from Ali Express to what is now a $35k (starting price) bike over here! But the tune is from a reputable tuner that has been tuning bikes in general and Triumphs in particular for years. And it uses software to apply it that is long established as some of the most feature rich available. Like I described in the vid, it even let me do "workshop only" tasks like recalibrating the crank position sensor. Thanks for the sub, I hope you enjoy your new beast. 👌

    Either you're neurotic or just simply disjointed.
    Why anyone would want to "fool" with an already masculine magnet of an elegant power cruiser is beyond me.
    It's like spending $15,000 in a PRS CE24 with mother of pearl fretboard binding and inlay, and the first thing you do is change out the custom engineered PUPS for crap DiMarzio's -- or buying a '22 C8 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 then enquiring about the gas mileage.
