Someone else said home is where family and friends are. To have family/friends in a new city, it takes a lot of time. Some people make friends almost instantly, due to their personality or activities. For myself being an introvert, it has always taken a year or more in a new place. Sometimes I have made friends and then moved to another location and had to start all over again. The Bay Area could be a good fit for you. Get an apartment, it could improve your own health by having a safe place to sleep - and it could be a place where your doggie can feel safe alone while you go do things with other people.
You really need to make new friends Hannah. I hope God leads you to the right people. Don't shut yourself out from building new relationships with people. You don't want to live your life being lonely. Put in effort to reach out to people. Join group activities outside of work, don't wait for people to reach out to you. You need to put in the effort
Hannah, I mean this well. Most of us whom watch your videos do. You may wish to consider joining hobby-clubs where you can engage in group activities (Outside of work) to make friends. Rediscovering yourself is one thing, but you are still lonely inside. Make up your mind if LA or the Bay works best for you and just stick with it, grow in a community wherever you are. If there is still no progress after some time, I suggest you can still consider moving back to Vancouver
I agree. Hannah is being too emotional, making changes based on how she is feeling that day. You cannot establish roots by moving everywhere whenever you are having a bad day. You need to stick to one place, try it out for 6 months to a year. Maybe even several years. It was hard for me to make *true* friends in the Bay Area until several years in. I am sure joining clubs or trying new hobbies could have changed that. Great suggestion on getting more involved in the community to find friends and a partner. Moving around like a nomad is not going to help her.
@@nikkei325i Yes 1000%. I think she is kind of emotionally all over the place. I learnt from past experiences living in Canada & the States after moving back from Japan when I was younger. Huge difference in environment and I had to reconnect with a few old friends and make new ones. We have to help ourselves to be emotionally stable and it usually starts by finding a community of people you can befriend with. I am a christian so it was easier for me as I found a church community both in San Diego and Vancouver, and made my first few friends from there. I wish Hannah can find her own happiness and be less lonely
I'm sure this comment is helpful to many people who might be in her situation now, but remember these videos were filmed many months ago, she's probably already back in Vancouver based on her instagram, and she's probably already discovered a lot of these things people are advising her in the comments. She may not have it all figured out but it seems like that was the whole point of going through this exercise. I wish I had known her when she was here in the Bay though, I love dogs a lot and I feel like we could've connected and been good friends.
"For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to throw away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace." This is a season of change and exploration for her! Another aspect of planting roots is experiencing new so that yiu can decide what to later keep or throw aside!
Home is where my family is. I have a modest house in Arizona with my wife, and I moved my elderly, widow mother to an apartment next to us. She has dementia, and I spend time with her every day. I can feel her slipping away, and I cherish the time I still have with her. That's home to me....
Home transitioned from family and friends in my youth to spouse, her family, coworker friends, then to spouse, kids, neighbors, and coworker friends. After retirement, true friends diminish in number, but the core family and church acquaintances remain. Staying in one place really helps when you have kids.
Would love to see what it's like trying out social groups/clubs in the area... Every city has a different vibe with social gathering groups and it plays a big part for me when deciding where to live next.
Living in a car for too long is not sustainable. Hope you can find a proper & affordable place for you & your dog to live. You will feel a significant difference waking up & going to bed under a roof on a proper bed, with a kitchen & bathroom access
Paying rent is unsustainable. Most apartment buildings and homes have been paid for 100x over. Sure some people can afford it, and they take all the housing. For me, living out of my car allows me to go at my own pace and I don’t have to deal with taxes. They’re underpaying us, overcharging is and triple taxing us. We don’t work for the gov. It works for us. But that’s not what’s happening. Read labels, and vote with your dollar. Don’t support unsustainable business practices.
@@gemini1123 I understand your sentiments. I agree with your points. I still believe it is important to find a proper living space however. It is possible to find an affordable place, although yes it is easier when you have friends/house mates to assist.
I agree. I am totally not for living in a vehicle. We are blessed to be able to live comfortably under a roof. It is important for us to know how to earn money smart. I love living in Asia more so than the West as well
Tried living in LA for 2 days, plenty of problems - restrooms, parking and anxiety of car charge draining. Figured out the better way is to look for nearest State park and look for volunteering activities.
I was watching this thinking this is footage from your current daily life, but it’s from 7-8 months ago lol. I sincerely hope things have begun looking up for you since then.
Hey Hannah, you may want to consider joining something locally to meet new people :) climbing gyms and pickleball communities are great and pretty welcoming.
Japan (and no, I'm not Japanese, I don't even speak or read/write Japanese). lol. every time the plane is approaching HND or NRT (my usual nonstop routes), tears start welling up in my eyes and my heart feels like it's at home. I just love Japan -- everything about it -- that much lol. But the cookiecutter answers are probably like home is where your friends/family are, where your heart is, where your dog is, etc. All of which are true too. But really, Japan is freaking amazing!! 😄
I live in the Bay Area and I find it funny that I have a friend who used to live in L.A. and misses it very much and doesn't like the Bay Area because she finds it boring 😅😅.
I’ve been watching for quite some time now and you are still living in your car?! I hope you can consider comfort and security for your dog as well - have a proper place to rest ie: apartment. Please stay safe! 😢
I have moved a lot in the last 10yrs because of my job. I know for me there is always an adjustment period after moving and I have read that it can take a person psychologically 2-5yrs before a place feels like home. I think California/bay area would be a challenge because of the cost of living and taxes. Thanks for your insightful videos! Take care!❤
I think try to go out during your day offs. There’s a lot of group in the social media that usually organize meet ups. You’re not alone. I myself do not have “friends” like “close friends” here that I hangout everyday since we move here. all of them were in the different state but I am thankful that I have my family with me especially my sister. I think it’s okay to be “alone and happy” it means you’re contented in life. I feel like you’re pushing too much looking for attention and validation (that you don’t realize you’re doing) for other people it’s like you’re looking for happiness not to yourself but with others that’s why you’re indecisive. Take one step at a time. Breathe. Everything will be okay. It’s not even a year yet lol that’s normal when you don’t have friends in an instant. Focus on yourself maybe find a place that’s more cheaper than your budget? If $3k plus is too much maybe find a place where it’s not really on a condominium type apartment or buildings? But, it’s Bay Area not even surprised lol. But, anyways Goodluck! You got this girl!
hi hannah, i haven't watched most of your videos but I appreciate your perspective on trying to get a foothold and figure out where your home base is. Home is where you feel in your element. Growing up in the east bay valley, I feel like growing up in that bubble is not conducive to establishing healthy avenues to community, and virtues. But when I got out a little bit, lived in the city for a little bit, ran a small farmers market business that had me driving from all 4 corners of the Bay area, exploring the little pockets of communities. I didn't follow any traditional routes for my career, hobbies or my personal life, I really relish being in my own lane. Except for one of my coworkers and my significant other, I didn't make any close friends since high school, I do see a lot of people talk about that in our local online forums, so while I don't have any suggestions there I would reckon you arent alone! I know from one of your earlier videos the 3700/mo studio in the south bay was daunting but you can find something that is manageable if you can keep commuting to the SF office like you previously did. I was looking at a lot of mid 2k/mo 2br duplex units in the east bay and settled on one near pinole because it had a big yard, but within the next few years we are hoping to build something in west marin or sonoma, the forest calls.
Wow this video is like 8months old lol I would suggest posting video maybe a week old for your safety but months old wont get you much help from people online tbh. You're probably already in an apartment married and planning a baby by the time we see your next video
I feel Hannah is fine, or more than fine financially. When the interest rates go down in one year or two, you could afford a house here in the Bay. The reason these videos look so depressing is probably due to the lack of social activity in your life. But there are actually lots of young tech nerds in the Bay, and a big first generation Asian immigrant community in Mountain View. So making friends is probably just a matter of time. Anyway good luck!
Girl, you should totally going back to college!!!! With your work experience and achievements, your application is already padded out. Getting another master's or PhD will not only give you new skills, but also new besties and connections that will last a lifetime... but let's be real, it’s NEVER about the degree. You are already pretty much a boss in your own field and can easily snag a job anytime. Think about it, who doesn't have that one bff from grad school? And let's not forget, college has got you covered from food, housing, social life and affordable top-notch healthcares like a cozy little bubble of awesomeness! And honestly, it's never too late to start again, you're still young and somewhat fresh, and I promise the initial shock will wear off soon. So go for it, trust me girl, it well be a blast! 🪄✨
Ummm….as a graduate student you will be receiving an appropriate salary whether it be in research or teaching in academi. From your salary, the private universities add additional income that will be routed to exclusive university insurances and mortgages taken under tenure as an associate, adjunct, and general faculty will be subsidized by the school itself. Of course there’s the retirement benefits packages, but the topic is about food and housing. Generally, the private universities in California pay more than live-able salaries for your position underneath your respective mentor and the UC based public schools have an exclusive but sometimes bothersome dining program with unclear certain benefits but enough said given their salaries are also generous enough given the protests that happened approximately 2 to 3 years prior and should be more than enough to cover your dining and housing needs. However, there's STILL more. Upon being accepted with your information inputted into the university personnel database, the university would automatically apply grants and scholarships into your account based on the info they have on you: race, orientation, religion, position, achievements, age, etc. The funds of which usually come from donations and may or may not affect your chances if being accepted(more funds you receive equals more chance of acceptance because the universities get the ultimate cut from it). Certain rewards might be limited to school supplies or come in packages like additional lab or library hours. You can also apply for additional grants and scholarships, but be careful as some are like obligated contracts that bind you to a certain job or internship and would require you to travel in some instances. Sometimes it may be helpful to work that extra internship or job if it is helpful. Essays and other paperwork are required in many instances, but extra grants don’t hurt if you don’t have a fellowship that covers everything. The universities especially the UCs are trying to find ways to make money and often strong applicants allow them to extract money first thing and potentially earn more grants through their applicants’ later achievements in their academic journey. In the process, applicants are provided comfortable living conditions and a chance to build experience and build important connections for future work and in life. The reason I made my post is because I believe Hannah is more than qualified and competent enough with her achievements, work experience, and resume to enter a graduate school at a prestigious university in California and receive a decent salary and benefits covering everything and more in the process whether it be through a fellowship of individual grants that takes into account one’s financial situation; and that I just wanted to offer genuine support instead of all the ridicule. That’s why I said taking graduate school usually covers housing and food, because generally everything is covered underneath a prestigious university if you have the means to make it there. Many people are and were in a similar situation with friends and work, and I found graduate school to be the solution that allows one to grow as an individual and make genuine connections with people of similar interest and intellect while also solving many of life’s physical issues. The only issue is that the salary may not be as high as certain companies but it’s very livable. Sorry for the long explanation, but you helped pinpoint potentially areas where my earlier post may have been lacking. Anyone in general, do provide more feedback as it’s helpful.😜
@@nopmonhatman4012 sounds exciting. I have background in 20 scientific disciplines and do iterations of working 1 year in private sector just to save enough money to be able to calmly do my research, explore new disciplines and write for another year. This enables me to take it very slow and really go deep in those periods of exploration. But this way of living, while very rewarding, has a downside of extremely limited security.
You can't get an apartment here in Chicago get a job over here in Chicago apartments like Apartments go for about 1200 dollars $1,000 it all depends where you want to live at but not that crazy amount they got over there and you can buy a house over here and with a mortgage of maybe $1,500 $12-1500 a month and your house
There must be a Chinatown near you that you can visit to see if it brings a sense of home, because feeling at home depends on culture, location, and the people around you. As a Vietnamese American, I feel more at home when I am surrounded by other Viets or even Asian people, even though I often have alone days.

May I ask what your power salad meal is? I do see beets, edamame, pasta.. does it have dressing? 😆 Love learning about what people put in their power salad meals!!! It looks so balanced.
Your mind is in fantasy world. You keep looking for something unrealistic. I don't say it's wrong. You are so brave. I wish i have courage to live like you but I choose to live like majority people choose: have a job, home and family. I enjoy your adventure.
Just some feedback and advice. Be more consistent with your content. Is this even before than you previous videos? Jan 2024... I honestly think now that you say these things for the views. You cannot be stuck in an infinite loop of oh where is the best. Nowhere is the best if you don't know what you want, if you are looking for the perfect thing which exists only in your head. The apartment you saw it was fine for a start. Where you choose to live you got to pay. Your half salary will go there. You knew that when you moved there. If you don't like it go to the suburbs and do another job. I also think you are too selective, and you think that everything have to be everywhere exactly how you want them. This is not happening for noone in this world, just like that. Why should it happen to you? Do you really expect within a few months in a new city to find the friends that you want, the boyfriend that you want, and the apartment that you want with less windows? Grow up. Have realistic expectations. What you want does not happen overnight. Regarding to your stories on insta... How do you expect someone who knows you (I don't know for less than a year) to be your guarantee? No responsible person should do that for someone who just met. Especially when you moved in between towns 3-4 times the last year, and say constantly I don't know what j want maybe maybe maybe I will move again. Go to a psychologist. Understand who you are embrace it. You cannot live in a car and your standards to look for an apartment will be only 1000 per month in an area which the lower price is 3000 with extremely good view in a very good area etc etc. Just take a decision. You earn what you want, you dont just have it when you arrive there. You make the life you want.
I lived in my Tesla model Y for like 4 months . I had money but didn’t have a job . So I was like why get apartment again if I don’t have work . I would go to yoga class at 6 am every morning to shower . . also the Tesla was comfortable to sleep in 😂
When I moved to Washington I made friends through my fighting game local, I never really made any from work or school. I would suggest finding a hobby or something you like and see if there are others with the same interest, those friends I made ended up being my best friends and it has been 3 years now and we hang out a lot outside of just playing fighting games. Also is there a way to work your job from a different city that is much less expensive? Good luck to you Hannah!
To me it’s sad that everyone’s lives revolve around working for the man. Gone are the days of simple household chores, growing food, making clothes. The nervous laughter says it all. Find something, anything, that makes you feel sure of yourself. You don’t need anyone else’s validation. In your last video those coworker guys/ one on the phone just seemed kinda judgmental. People who work these tech office jobs have false sense of entitlement. Good grades does not equal intelligence. Street smarts is more important.
CA isn't safe for someone living in a car because of guns and thugs. I would try getting a fully remote job and moving to Europe or Asia, or even to other states like Hawaii.
Don't worry you all. Hannah is smart person. By livings in her cars, free food, soft ware engineer paychecks/ UA-cam extra money. Few months later , she may buy a million dollars house. Hannah sound lonely but don't worry still. With her beauty, she can find any man she wants. Not now, later when time come. Old saying said "Smart and beautiful not go together " it is not true in Hannah case 😃

A plus for bay is the free food at office. That's a huge daily savings.
Thank you for sharing! I actually just moved down from SF to Los Angeles, coming up to 6 months in week’s time. Would enjoy getting to know you and see if we can hit it off as friends. :) wishing you all the best!
hanna should come to portland
I like using the beach as a good reset. I’d recommend running water for the mind.

Can I ask what do you do for the big tech? Are you an engineer or a SW developer?
I must say the content is great but I must point out that your Husky is the chillest Husky I have ever seen. I hope the best for you in your journey
I would go to yoga class at 6 am every morning to shower . . also the Tesla was comfortable to sleep in 😂
have you ever thought that you let your dog sit where humans supposed to sit and not animals? do you clean the seat where the dog sat?
Home is a place where you hardly can wait to return. If it is empty it is just a place to stay.
Hannah Jiayou ✊ Just some advice maybe find some community house?
you should join dragon boat! That's how I made friends outside of work and now I confidently feel like I am home and have a family.
Come to the Bay Hannah!
Try San Diego!! You will love the romance and friends here! I promise!
Thank you for sharing.
lol someone is inside! hahah
Interesting, huh?
if you can work remote why on earth would you wanna live in the city
love your content. resilient strong

Street smarts is more important.
that ws amazing 😊😊
You need to be copped so you can feel what truly home feels like
❤
if i were you, i would invest a van or a mini house bus to save money until i can afford to buy a house.
My dad wants you to marry him
Why not fully embrace this lifestyle and do vanlife?
I love your video keep going!
Microsoft likes to hire pretty girls.
Keep the faith Hannah ❤
CA isn't safe for someone living in a car because of guns and thugs. I would try getting a fully remote job and moving to Europe or Asia, or even to other states like Hawaii.
Are you poor .
👍👍👍...новая серия...
So cute
You are such a beautiful soul ❤. Always waiting for your video. May God bless you. Stay Safe dear. Lots of love from India 🇮🇳
Why is your dog always with you. Read Bible and pray
