I have a few band shirts but I rarely wear them. I generally like band shirts that don't look like band shirts, you know? I'm just not into those.

Respectfully disagree. Honestly feels like nobody has any real convictions with these things anymore. Everybody has the attitude of "whatever man, let people do whatever they want to do" (obviously I'm not in favor of forcefully stopping people but a little criticism can go a long way) if you like the idea that metal music is a tight-knit group of individuals that have things in common, particular interest, a worldview / philosophy. Well you don't get that overtime when all these people come in treating it as a fashion statement. This is what happened with punk music and that's why many people today believe punk music is dead
How to take: gatekeeping is good IMO
I like to think of this as a lifestyle, a philosophy. When bands blow up, it's largely with an audience that's extremely "diverse". More money becomes involved, and more money means more censorship to cater to this larger audience. Oftentimes bands change as a result of this. I know it's good for them in a way but they won't necessarily be the band you had such a personal connection with in the beginning. We've seen this before.
Honestly I think this is a big reason metalcore gets so much hate online today. Everyone complains about the bands sounding the same. IMO if you want a truly diverse music scene, where not everyone is listening to the same band and it doesn't all sound like they're copying each other. Gatekeeping is the answer. Personally, I don't like me and all my friends knowing the same bands. It's fun to exchange bands with each other lol the alternative is one boring conglomerate of bands. Again, metal music kind of just did this the last decade. Not to mention when they're known well enough, we'll start hearing about their politics and they're always one-sided lol

All my shirts are bands ..all black. I have like 100 of them. I think is good for the bands if people that don't listen to them wear it.I get happy when I see someone wear one. I have the mezmerize System Of A Down on now. Posted on my channel 😂

Nobody would ever think that I like and create heavy music from how I dress lol. Most of my clothes have the "pacsun look". When I do get a band shirt though, it's only because I love and listen to them and wanna support them. I just don't like wearing black that much. I feel like if people who don't really listen to your band are wearing your T-shirt, they probably got it at Walmart and for your T-shirt to be there in the first place, you probably have sold out way too much.

I get you. True. I love black and the way it makes me feel. I have shirts of bands I listen to for sure. But if I see one that I like but I don't listen to the band I will still wear it 😂. But we love the genre. It gets hot when wearing black clothes tho but at the same time you can hide the sweat 😁
