  • Benchmade Vector 495 Review: Substantial and determined
    The Benchmade 495 Vector is a larger knife that's new for 2018. With it's contoured G-10 scales, the Benchmade Vector knife has a blade length of about 3.6 inches or 9.1 cm. Although the 495 Benchmade Vector looks like a large knife, it only weighs 4.4 ounces. The Benchmade Vector spring assist deploys reliably thanks to the Benchmade AXIS-assist opening system. The
    bronze bushings also aids with deployment of the Benchmade Vector blade which utilizes CPM-S30V steel.
    Thank you for watching my Benchmade Vector review.

    *The Kershaw Link I reference in this video is modified, the blade steel is not the standard 420HC. Click on the link below to watch me attach the FRN scales to the M390 blade. Thank you Scott G.

    Okay, I now see the appeal of an expensive knife. Sweet design with the lines of the contour of the handle moving into the blade grind... glad you knife collectors occasionally get to share the joys of a fancy knife over the budget EDCs we viewers all want to hear about.

      How many budget edc gear guys do you know who own less than 4 knives? 3-4 "budget" knives cost as much as a high-end knife

    I’ve shied away from spring assistedknives only because when I first started collecting I collected only spring assisted knives because I dreamed of having an an automatic but they are illegal in Washington since then my tastes have changed kvt and washer is the way I go now

      That really stinks no automatics Omar. One of my all time favorite knives is an auto, the Benchmade Casbah. I guess no auto's isn't a huge deal.

    I just picked up a vector today. Got it for 5% off due to a missing box! It's my first benchmade folder (I have 2 fixed blades from them) and I'm really happy with it

    Vector is a nice design.. BM has its quirks but I love a lot of their designs.. I don't own any assisted knives but I think BM does it well..You have some good knives in the collection...
    I'm fine with S30V, 154CM, VG10 etc. I have high end steels but I don't need them for an EDC knife..
    I think too many knife people chase the latest and greatest steels...It drives me nuts.. Blade steel isn't high up on my list of knife priorities.. I avoid non stainless..But, I have to really consider it now due to resale value..

    • @TheKnifeBeater
      @TheKnifeBeater  6 років тому

      Agreed Thomas. BM for the most part is great, every once in a while I'll get one that might be a little off center. Not a huge deal, but still annoying. I won't swear allegiance to any one manufacturer, but Benchmade is definitely in my top 3. Blade steel is not the most important to me either, it's fairly important but definitely not most. I would have to say blade shape is the big factor for me. If I don't like the shape of the blade, then I don't move forward to the next qualifying feature. I'm a big fan of VG10, great stuff. I like it a hair more than 154CM. That's probably why I like Kizer's Vanguard series and why I own four of them. Thanks for the great conversation Thomas.

    That's a rather stabby type blade that. We can't have assisted opening knives in Australia. Nanny State doesn't like us to have nice things. If I was to buy one of these, it would be purely as a collector item. I like the simplicity of it, but I wouldn't have a use for it.

    • @TheKnifeBeater
      @TheKnifeBeater  6 років тому

      Sorry to hear Brad, that would be frustrating. I definitely appreciate the artistic features of this piece more than it's functional value as a knife, but I have to say this is quite the slicer. Thanks for watching Brad, nice to meet you.

    Did this knife ultimately replace the 490? You just can't beat the shape of the older 490, it's a classy knife

    • @TheKnifeBeater
      @TheKnifeBeater  6 років тому

      I don't know if this replaced the 490. The 495 is quite a bit larger and the steel is s30v as opposed to the s90v on the Arcane. Now that you mention it, they both do share a few design characteristics that I didn't notice before. I agree with you John, the 490 is a gorgeous knife and it's been on my list for a while, I've been holding out hoping to find a deal on it. Kubey makes a clone of the 490 that I tried out just to get a feel for it. Thanks for watching and sharing your perspective John, much appreciated.

      The Knife Beater yea, no problem, I gotta say, if you ever get a chance, jump on the 490, I love mine, just bought a 5700 to beat on at work so I van keep my 490 nice and well maintained

      I have 7 deep pocket clips from mxg fast shipping couple days i put on all my spyderco and benchmade . Question i have the benchmade boost and benchmade griptilian g10 gray with the blue trim i paid almost 200 each for both and love them but after 2 weeks stopped carrying them i see this vector idk if i want to spend 200 again but i love spears and flippers and assists and this is all in one . To me 127g actually is heavy . I like the para 2 or bugout or sog aegis . Very light . Cant stop looking at this though my question is should i just go ahead and get it ? Thank u for your post !

    • @TheKnifeBeater
      @TheKnifeBeater  6 років тому

      Yes! If you are into assisted opening knives, then I would say absolutely. The Vector has one of the strongest kicks I've ever felt, more than any automatic I own. It's a solid knife. Another great feature is the accessible pivot screw. The safety lock is well built and it already comes with a deep carry clip. I personally don't like heavy knives either, but with the Vector, I'm willing to overlook the 124 gram weight because of how good everything else is on this knife. I really hope this helps Sal and if you have anymore questions about it, feel free to ask. Thanks for the sub, nice to meet you.

    Do you own or have used a 490 Amicus? I love mine but the aluminum is very slippery and this knife seems to be it's beefier big brother. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    • @TheKnifeBeater
      @TheKnifeBeater  5 років тому +1

      Sorry pd5k, I don't have the Amicus yet. It's been on my list for a while now, back when it was known as the Arcane. I can say the Vector is a fantastic assisted folder and it's a bit larger than the Amicus. Thanks for watching.

      That stinks, I'm sorry to hear jabas. Are you sure you didn't engage the secondary safety? Did you check the pivot screw to make sure it's not completely tightened? I have no idea your level of knife knowledge, so please take no offense to the questions, just trying to help.

    • @2000jabas2000
      @2000jabas2000 6 років тому

      it opens till the flippertab disapear, and then it stopt. Even with force it was not further to open.

    • @TheKnifeBeater
      @TheKnifeBeater  6 років тому +1

      Oh. Well I had a similar prob with mine. The 1st day I was trying to break in the action, after many deployments it wouldn't open any more. I checked the pivot screw and it was completely tightened from the open-close action. So, I just loosened the pivot and now it's fine. If your knife issue is something else, I'm sure Benchmade will take care of it. I know, that doesn't make this any less annoying for you.
