I recently just got back into mtb. I am 6'5" and 320lbs wear size 16 shoe. Basically identical build. Seeing how you run your gear has been super helpful because this hobby doesn't have much insight for the big boy club. Great vids.

These videos really help me understand that big guys like myself aren't left out on mountain biking, and it's possible to find a bike that supports me correctly. A week and some change ago I took a really hard fall and have been down since, but after thinking about the incident it makes me realize having a good setup for my size isnt only cool but safe as well! Thanks for the video!

We have a lot of trails with the surface mainly chunky gravel littered with sharp golf ball to softball size rocks that end up pinging off of the rims/spokes. They nick and scratch the rims up. Good place for alu. We have plenty of trails that are primarily dirt too where carbon is fine.

I’d say, keep the spoke tension right and you will have no problems! I broke my rear rim (roval carbon) and im like 75kg (maybe 165ish lbs) riding pretty slow in some chunk.. mostly my fault because i skipped to true the wheel after i broke a few spokes.. 🤷‍♂️

I love drops but man I know what you mean about that fear of destroying your bike/parts hitting them. I was terrified to hit a drop on the first set of wheels that I built myself, but it’s been a year and about a hundred drops later my wheels are still going strong 🤘

Maybe I missed it being stated, but I do think there is an aspect of stating there is Cushcore inserts installed also (saw stickers so assuming). That also makes a difference on hard impacts and risk of dinging or cracking a wheel.

Got carbon a little bit ago, I can tell the difference and it immediately helped my times a bit, but it depends on the riding. On longer mileage cross country with flowier terrain, definetely can tell the acceleration difference, and certainly can tell on technical climbs. I don't do intense enduro type riding, so I can't speak to it much, but I definetely feel lighter and quicker, overall faster

tbh, carbon wheels are a god sent. They do not plastically deform, which is great for me, as i ride pretty hard on my rims. The amount of expensive aluminium rims I bent, dented, or broke is ridiculous. The only thing I brake now are my spokes, but they are a quick and cheap fix :)

It's my feeling that Putting Cush Core in the wheels negates the whole durability test. It's pretty hard to bottom out a wheel hard on a sharp edge'd rock with Cush core inside. Don't get me wrong, I'm heavy and would ride the wheels but the test seems a bit unfair.

I am 6'2" 246 and I'm at the limit of both air shock (which I have blown mutliple) and a fox coil with the highest 700lb spring. The Fox DHX2 setup sheet and the fox 36 setup sheet shows 240-250 as being the high limit. After both m local bike shop and DVO warned me that I was at the limit of their shock parameters i went with the dhx2. That was of course after blowing out DVO air rear on my ripmo af 2-3 times (yes I service it at recommend intervals)
. So I'm just trying to make sense of the information and the facts that I see definently not an expert. So far my dhx2 is miles above my dvo

I'm 6'1" @ 285lbs and I got Light Bicycle carbon rims for my eMTB. I do not however ride at the level you do so it was really cool seeing you put the wheels through their paces. :)
I noticed how stiff carbon wheels were on my first ride with them, its most noticeable when you pick a line and it feels as if the bike locks in to that line. I noticed the faster acceleration too, subtle difference and the best way I can explain it is it feels like having super slick bearings on the wheels - they spin up faster when descending and when pedaling.
