      @@sakamotothecat17 "Dankeschön" is actually a great example, very few Germans would say the whole thing in everyday life, it's what you teach children when they first learn formal vocabulary. But Ceci has (at least in one other clip I've seen) a tendency to go into the other extreme of ultra-casualness and just mumble a "dangö", which can even be seen as disrespectful in certain settings

      Please give me more examples! I've been living in Germany for a while and I can speak Hochdeutsch alright, but regionalisms and especially slang are still kinda unknown to me, and I'd love to learn more on the topic.

    • @kappanova1302
      @kappanova1302 Місяць тому +74

      @@Dominator150395 it´s hard to think of something off the top of my head since i´m used to it, but i think I would find the colloquial shortening of "ein / eine / einen" to "n / ne / nen" in written as well as spoken form incredibly confusing. Then again, swallowing entire syllables is probably one of the most common things native speakers in any language do.
      As a sidenote, just today i thought about how "I will *pass* on that advice" and "I will pass *on* that advice" have entirely different meanings, only one is colloquial, and it´s entirely dependent on context in its written form

    One thing i realized with both CC and Kiara, and myself, is that if you, as native german speaker, switch to english for an extended amount of time and suddenly switch to german, you´re kinda stuck because the way a sentence is structured is entirely different in english and german. thats why it sounds a bit as if they forget how to say certain phrases very often xD

    "sie" is how you adress someone formally so everyone that isnt friends or family normally its rude if you would say "du" to strangers or anyone you dont know (actually if you would say "du" to police then talking to some police officer you could even get fined for that lol) well besides the rude aspect if you arent on that basis you could also compare it to what first name basis in japan is if you adress someone with du in german

      It's not that extreme nowadays.

    • @1vader
      @1vader 19 днів тому

      Yeah, while I wouldn't randomly use "Du" with an older stranger, I probably more often than not use "Du" with even complete strangers of the same age. Especially so if there's any kind of connection like say we're on a party together, even if I've never met the other person before. Using "Sie" in that case (as Kiara did here) feels extremely stiff/cold/intentionally distant to me. Same at work, I guess IT is more relaxed in that regard compared to most branches but we all use "Du", generally even when talking with people from customer companies.

      The latter does not have a direct translation, the closest in meaning being something like "thou", and is effectively the formal version of "you".
      In Germany, it is considered unpolite amongst adults to address someone as "Du" (which is generally only done amongst friends and close associates) without giving each other permission, i.e. "proposing the 'du'." There's no equivalent in English, but to give a similar example, it's like the cultural tradition in Japan where it's considered unpolite to address someone using their first name without permission.

    Who in the right mind says "Bussi" for "kiss" probably an Austrian thing but "kiss" not being "Kuss" is criminal

    • @12tanuha21
      @12tanuha21 Місяць тому +6

      Kuss is the general word for kiss, while Bussi is a specific (not erotic) kiss of greeting
      From Wktionary (Google translated):
      Variation of Busserl; originated around 1700 as an Upper German diminutive of Buss 'Kuss', which was still attested in the 17th century
