    You are a freakin life saver! I was about to smash several pieces to bits out of rage and your quick clear tips just saved me a lot of cleaning. I saved this video and will watch it a few more times before attempting to cut again!

    Thank you for this video. I learned some new techniques. I will try to draw the cutter towards me now to see if I can get a better cut. I also like the reminder to apply pressure from the shoulder. I never knew about the set screw on the running pliers.

    Really well done tutorial! I can't tell you how much glass I've wasn't doing it wrong - too much pressure, etc. One question: Is that black mat pretty firm, or could I use an old mouse pad I have laying around.

    The black breaking mat is a fairly firm surface that allows just a little bit of “give”. An old mouse pad is likely to be too soft to offer safe, firm support. Breaking mats are available at Delphi (www.delphiglass.com/glass-cutters-tools/glass-cutters/glass-scoring-and-breaking-mat) and can be used over your regular workbench surface. Some glass artists employ the technique of applying pressure to the reverse of the score with their fingertips over other firm surfaces such as a homasote board or grid work surface, and find that this works reasonably well also.

    Hi Delphi Glass: Thanks for the very precise and useful video! What is the thickness of that glass you were cutting? Thanks

    • @DelphiGlass
      @DelphiGlass  9 років тому

      Maila M
      The glass I used in the video is average for stained glass (approximately 1/8” or 3mm thick). The tools we show in the video can generally be used on glass up to ¼” thick without issue. Most glass that is more than ¼” thick is usually used in furniture/shelving production, and often is cut to size then tempered - which means it cannot be cut smaller (it will shatter if you try).

    question, i need to bevel the edges or round them off so they are not sharp, this is because its going to be applied to a fretboard and im going to be running my hand up an down the length rapidly, and again i dont want to slice my fingers off. how would you recommend i accomplish this?

    Can someone tell me what happens if the traditional running pliers don’t come with a middle line? Should I ask for new ones? I’m not new to this kind of crafting, but I’ve received a set that doesn’t and I’ve never used one without before.

    Have you ever or have had any thoughts on cutting wine bottles for hurricane candle lanterns?

    • @jamessonke4411
      @jamessonke4411 7 років тому

      Score the wine bottle as straight as possible and use a thin pencil torch to heat up the score line. heat along the line a minimum of three times around. taking about 30-45 second per rotation. it may take practice, but using this method I am able to get a clean break on wine or liquor bottles 9 out of 10 times in under five minutes each. steady hand is key. feel free to ask me any questions. I've literally spent DAYS maybe Weeks trying to perfect this method. Sorry for the long message lol, also, the thinner the torch flame the better.

    Hello! I notice the table, are those ceiling tiles on top of the table? Or what kind of material is that?

    • @DelphiGlass

      +Jennifer Ries The tiles you see in the video are actually Homasote boards which you can buy from us. They are available in three different sizes:
      12” x 12” squares www.delphiglass.com/soldering-supplies/supplies-accessories/12-x-12-homasote-board
      24” x 24” squares www.delphiglass.com/soldering-supplies/supplies-accessories/24-x-24-x-1-2-homasote-board

      Nathan Pretlow
      With a good score it could work but it's not specifically designed for that. We recommend the Tap Wheel Supercutter to get a good score on thicker glass and the Power Breaker to run the score. You can get the Power Breaker & Tap Wheel Supercutter in a set - www.delphiglass.com/fusing-supplies/fusing-tools/power-breaker-and-tap-wheel-supercutter.

    Oil best or for s no oil. I took a class and they did not use oil. Another place we buy glass they store the cutter in oil.

    • @jamessonke4411
      @jamessonke4411 7 років тому

      it cuts best if you use constant pressure and constant speed. oil makes this easier but is not necessary.

    Overall, this was a good video but it falls far short as far as I am concerned. No discussion was made of pressure, wheel material, or wheel angle. I have cut thousands of miles of glass from single strength to 1 inch thick and only need running pliers when the thickness is 3/8" or greater. Most of the time, grasping the glass between thumb and forefingers of both hands on either side of the score and simply bending the glass will break out the glass cleanly. I suggest always use a carbide wheel and make sure you use the correct angle of wheel. In my humble opinion the best glass cutters are made by MacInnes Tool Corp., Hudson Ave., Rochester, NY.
