I had local cable internet; 60mbps down/6mbps up. Paid about $90 a month.
Switched to Frontier; 600mbps down/600mbps up. Paying $65 a month.
So far, service has been flawless; no outages, no problems.
Has there been any problems since?
We just had their "2 Gig" service installed in our area (Tampa) and they were advertising it like crazy and offered it for $79.99 a month for as long as you're a customer. It's $149.99 now. When you run a speedtest on different sites you see anywhere from 2.5 to 3 Gbps and uploads around 1.8 to 2.5 Gbps. The biggest benefit of their fiber network down here is that it never goes down during strong storms or hurricanes, which is nice.
You'll never even use a 3rd of that 2 gig 🤦🏻♂️
@@dhermosillo09 having too much bandwidth is better than being limited
Wym? I got frontier too and its nowhere near reliable, goes off whenever for hours, gets slow out of nowhere and still the bill is way higher than advertised
@@Fernuhdo_e that sucks for you then. In our area it never goes down. Even when the power was out for multiple days due to Hurricane Ian and Nicole, internet was working perfectly fine.
@@dhermosillo09 I pay less for 2 gig internet than I would for 500 meg... So your point is? You easily download games for Xbox and from steam at well over a third of the overall speed, especially when a new game comes out and multiple devices are downloading it. I also use well over it during the day when I am working. Uploading and downloading large files for work gets close to saturating it.
I got fiber from a local provider a few weeks ago, it's been great as expected! I've been loving the low ping and synchronous upload speeds.
They are the absolute worst. Every few weeks my internet just stops working and then they say they will send someone out in a few days. Then when they do get here, there is nothing wrong on my end, it's coming from their end and we should not have had to wait. Then they refuse to reimburse us for all the days down!!!
I'm also in Connecticut and got the gig fiber service. Same ONT, but they gave an Amazon Eero router as part of the deal. I disconnected and plugged the ONT directly to our Dream Machine SE router.
Very impressed with the speeds and stability. Just ran a speed test, while people are on the network streaming, and got 973 Mbps Down /1003 Mbps UP with low ping. Had optimum and the router log was filled daily with high packet loss and frequent disconnect warnings. Haven't had these issues post install from Frontier.
This is a great unbiased review. I was looking for changing things up since cable internet in my area keeps getting more expensive and my pay isn't. I'm going to call them perhaps today. Thank you!
I live in Manchester, Ct and Frontier just upgraded me from cable to fiberoptic. I also got the 500 mbps service like your dad. . I like it a lot. It runs rings around the old cable system. I think I was the last hold out in the neighborhood to sign on for it. Works well with the new tv and my laptop computer. I like sports so I needed a good internet for that. They did it for about 45 bucks per month for the new service. Affordable Connectivity Program for low income will subtract about 30 dollars off per month if one is qualified for that.
I just requested a tech to come out to install Fiber 500 to my new place in Manchester, can't wait to see how fast it is! small world!
We have a regional company, TDS, doing utility work around my area and planning their own larger fiber rollout in Wisconsin throughout the next year, so I'm giddy to see how everything will go around. They're offering 1 gig and 300 mbps symmetrical plans for up to $140 and it'll be nice to see how they compare to Spectrum, though I have to put in a $25 deposit to show my interest. AT&T only offers ancient DSL (I get the feeling they'll piggyback off TDS fiber though) and I'm in one of those places where DirecTV and Dish just won't install.
Thanks for the review, I have been wondering about this, and its nice hear a review from a tech person who knows what they are talking about.
It was great meeting you in person last weekend !
I am getting the 1 GB plan from frontier here in PA. Used to live in CT am saw their HQ in Norwalk CT. Thanks for the update Lon.
Good video. One thing I think you should go back and test is to see if the peering is as garbage as it is here in DFW. Don’t just test to local speed test servers, but try testing to something across the country or the world, and you will see the problem. On frontier on my gig connection, I can only get like 150 mbps across the country or world on multi mode. On att fiber, I can get well over 500-600. So frontiers network is great, but once you leave the frontier network, it’s a disaster.
Congrats on your dad being able to receive fiber to the home.
Eat more cereal. Less sugar.
@@davenz000 Good lord that's funny while munching spinach.
I had Quantum Fiber (aka Q) installed last month here in Utah. Gigabit for $65 a month, including mesh network with 4 units.
Hey Lon. I also live in CT and had Frontier install their Fiber 1G/1G at my house.
I had it for four days before it went down…. It proceeded to stay down for another 5.5.
Every time I called, they said it was an outage and that they are working to fix it yada yada.
Fortunately I was able to hook my Xfinity modem back up and get Internet back up.
Outages should never last that long for any reason.
I called, cancelled citing lack of service. They tried to charge me for ETF and 30 days of service.
Fortunately, they agreed to reverse those charges.
I really can’t say my experience was positive though. I wish it were as I could really use that crazy upload.
I do work from home though and I simply cannot be offline for more than a few hours.
I’ve had Frontier’s 500Mbps service for $40 monthly for the first year, then it will go up to $50. No problems with service. Speeds usually in the high 300Mbps on Wi-Fi. Way more than I need. A lot cheaper than Cox, but I did lose cable TV when I switched, (which is a blessing).
Each individual resident connection has its own fiber connection out to the data node. It connects from the property all the way out to the data hub where it then connects to the fiber backbone. Each dedicated customer has their own connection and bandwidth that isn't shared with any other customer. …
I have frontier in LA. 500. I get like 520 up. and 504 down. Over wifi i'm getting sometimes 400 up and often 400 down. Phenomenal so far. Blazing up and down. Have to make sure your router works with theirs but my understanding is most do. But i got an amazon eeros 6pro router with my sub free. Two actually. Only issue is it lacks usb ports to add a networked router like my old modem but.
NOTE: my discount rate was NO Contract. But maybe that's a result of comp in LA.
Installation. That was an issue cause i was in an apt and they couldn't find the box. I had to argue with my uncooperative property manager who didn't know where the box was and wouldn't stay home to open the door where we thought it was so they had to come out multiple times. I finally got a maintenance person to open the door and after that it was fine. No phone service. But so far i love it.
Note. I'm in LA. Millions and millions and my speed is rarely slowing down. So i think they do keep up with the internet needs.
Is the price as advertised or do they add taxes, surcharges, equipment fees on top of the advertised price?
I'm in CT as well. I left Optimum for Frontier. I was paying over $100/mo for 200mb and voice. Optimum wouldn't drop their price so I signed up with Frontier Fiber, 500mb for $39.99/mo with no contract. They had a DHCP issue one weekend in May that was annoying but other than that its been fine.
Still good??
I am a network tech with frontier. Move the frontier router for your phone behind your own router. It does not need to be the first device. Just needs to be in the network.
Looking forward to getting frontier on my street near Norwich!! one thing to note about your ping test, the ping will stay rock solid even when maxing out the upload on fiber vs COAX.
I just signed up for it in Norwich as well. Install coming on the 31st. Have you gotten yours yet?
Nice review!!! Fiber is so much better than cable or wireless for most cases.
I am unsure when you stated that the neighborhood shares the connection. The only sharing is the backhaul. If the are able to offer 10 gig in the future I would image they have the infrastructure in place.
Great video. The video you are showing the location of the router and stuff is in the attic? How do they install it in the old house, I.E. 1986 built house? Thanks!
Keep up the great work
Thank you for the video. I just ordered the 5 gig its new and $154.99 a month. No commitments. Same price Im paying for 1200/50 with Xfinity
Is there any other hardware installed (particularly outside the house)? I have a UPS in my home office. Ideally, I'd have frontier run the cable to the office so I can power the ONT and router via the UPS. Would be ideal to maintain a connection through shorter power outages.
Some very aggressive marketing we're seeing for sure! I'm very interested to see what happens in a few months!
Yep, I was going to comment this, I've seen so much advertising for it recently!
They called my father two or three times a day
Yikes! They're almost begging him to get on the service!
@@LonSeidman Everyone is scared to try them because of their horrible dsl!
@@Paveynator everyone still thinks it’s DSL when fiber comes in
As an experienced Frontier customer. Frontier will not upgrade your service from 500 to 1Gbit, or from 1gbit to 2gbit without charging you a $75 installation fee and sending out a technician. Additionally, in some markets they will not provide 2gbit unless you use their router which you can then immediately disconnect and plug into your own 2+ gbit capable router.
One last tip, they will only allow you one DHCP lease at a time. If you try to switch routers without releasing the IP on the old router first, you will have to wait for the lease to expire (~2hrs).
p.s. the service is mostly great. It was better under Verizon as they had much better backhaul and peering. Significantly more stable than Spectrum or Comcast
Interestingly, when I upgraded from 500 to gig, they said my hardware supported it and a tech didn’t come out. I have an 8 year old g1100 router and I’m on GPON and can still pull 920/920.
@@alright272 I wonder if it's only in markets where they've upgraded from GPON to NG/XGS-PON. At my place of work and home a technician came out and installed a newer ONT that supported 10gbit ethernet.
The switch from copper to optic is free
Yeah I have some contacts at Frontier that say I’m on the internal map for deployment. I have also gotten emails from the form or whatever that says I will eventually be getting it but I think with the supply chain things have been delayed. I have seen deployment close to me.
I know a few people around the West Haven area that have it. They all say it drops out at least once a week for 20 Minutes at a time
I'm in Berkeley, CA, and I pay $60 for gig fiber with an ISP called Sonic. I live by UC Berkeley, and I have noticed that the speeds slow down when all the students move in after the summer break is over, but the slowdown only lasts a couple of days.
yea most outdated wifi companies that havent switched to fiber yet have the wifi lines on a shared signal which why this happens. i know frontier offers fiber and dedicated signal lines which is a better alternative
Very helpful information, thank you!!,🙏
Thanks for the video as always. I live here in East Hartford Connecticut and I have had the service for 6 months. Went with the one gig down and upload. The price you mention sounds a bit high I'm paying $59.99 and that's locked in for 3 years I did have to sign a contract, And also received a $200 Visa gift card. I love the service so far it's not even close compared to The service I had with Comcast I was paying $79 For a 150MB Download and about 6 to 8 up..... I couldn't agree with you more competition the best thing for Consumers.
Is there an early termination fee?
@@bane2256 if you accept the gift card

I tried to get Frontier 1gig service installed to replace Spectrum (in Connecticut). Frontier was a no-show during the appointment window. No call or text from them. When I called they had no explanation. I'm giving them one more chance but I have serious concerns about their customer service.
I upgraded to gig fiber from a regional isp and I pay about 65 a month. Coming from frontier dsl and I’m at a spot where xfinity wants 1000 dollars to hook me up with coax when the regional fiber guys did it for free! Much more reliable than f tier where it would go out at least once a month.
Summary with regionals: good customer service then eventually get bought by a big company and merged and everyone in the area gets better or it goes CRAPYYY
I'm actually interested in your story. Frontier DSL, didn't know the company offered that. xfinity is trash so you did indeed dodge a bullet there. I am researching telecoms and their footprints around the country. Thanks for the food for thought. Not every story is rosy.
@@ComradePoop You’re probably right, I hope it would be metronet if so haha.
I’m a Fortnite player & I went from spectrum to fiber 500/500 mbs & my ping went from 30-40 to 0-15 , it will change your ping for good so I highly recommend this!
I’m patiently waiting for Frontier to finish installing the underground infrastructure in our neighborhood. It’s already 8 months and counting past when they originally estimated availability. They seem to be having issues with their underground subcontractors. They keep disappearing and we have roughed in orange conduit poking out of the ground everywhere.
I’m hoping that they will offer a SFP+ module so that I can plug it straight into my UDM Pro SE. Sounds like they will at least run it inside.
Same here. Aerial isn’t a problem, but finding UG crews is the problem since they don’t have an in house UG crew
Frontier had to pause underground installations because CT Public Utilities Regulatory Authority called their underground installations reckless after they ran their fiber conduits through an Eversource Electrical conduit. They were fined $5 million.
@@wendelllaidley3407 thank god I’m not in CT
CT just went after Frontier about their marketing and price changes so hopefully that will help us as customers
We have Hawaiiantel Fiber pay about $60. a month for 300 up / down. I just love how they say were not under no contract after 1 year goes up and just have to renegotiate
I didn't realize XFinity offered fiber in CT. Looking to swap to Frontier for 5gig fiber. I want to use a fiber to SFP+ line to an ethernet switch. I wonder if I could do that directly from the ONT and then use the ethernet ports in each room to connect to my wifi mesh, with the eventual plan to get WiFi 7 router.
I've seen the ads and was interested so I called them. They confirmed that it's available in my area but it seems that they would have to dig into my lawn to bury the fiber to my house. You mentioned somebody on a pole and nothing about digging.
If that's the case, I should call them again.
My wife doesn't want the mess of digging the lawn.
Also, the guy told me I had to get the phone service too. Another thing that has a zero WAF.
I think it depends on your neighborhood - my Dads place has no underground utilities. If you have conduit for a copper phone line they should be able to run the cable through that.
@@LonSeidman Thank you. I will call again and see if I get the same answers.
Thanks! Awesome video.
So for Florida they offer this n spectrum Ik trying to decide what better
I have the Frontier supplied router, and want to use my own Ubiquiti Edge router, but have been unable to get it to work. Any advice?
Now that is crazy fast for the upload speed on Frontier fiber
When AT&T installed fiber in my neighborhood My family was one of the first to gigabit fiber and now they are offering 2gigabit and 5gig here in central Texas just a hour north of Austin,Tx
Att fiber is amazing besides the customer service. Much better reliability and peering than frontier.
So it appears Frontier no longer carries TV service? But you can get house phone service with any level speed service you choose?
Is there a fiber optic modem router that I can buy that will work better than the one provided by the service company
I think it's important to note and I think most people know this that unless the terms and conditions specifically say they will provide you with 100% of the advertised speeds then we can never expect to get 500 down or 500 up all the time. It might be close enough to the advertised number. These companies are sneaky after all.
don't care about the speed. I care about paying for something that is not working at all. I don't have money to burn. everything is accounted for right down to TP.
Please remember to test your connection wired. You might be really surprised by how much faster your connection may be when comparing it to your wireless router. These days, you actually need the new protocols in order to get those speeds or something close to them wirelessly. And for the love of all things fiber, never connect via a 2.4 GB net work.
Had problem from the start with mine. Frist the sales person gave me the wrong account info. then there were issues with installation. then a week later They were down in my area for 3 days. On the plus side the tech was on the ball and keep me up today on when they may have it fixed.
Out here in suburban Indiana they’re rolling it out 12 to 16 blocks at a time
I got Comcast and it works but I’ll definitely drop it for this once the fiber passes behind my house
Also a lineman claimed there’s a “hidden” 100 Mbit tier cheaper than 500, I don’t know how much truth there is to that, but it’s apparently something you have to call and ask for
These is a 100 Mbit tier in Los Angeles it's around $30. But for $40 one can get 500 Up/Down. For me I have ACP. So it costs $10 a month + telephone Equals $20,but because of auto pay, they dropped it down to $15.
They are expanding to eastern CT (finally) and speeds go up to 5 gigs
I just updated from 1 gig to 2 gig. I was getting symmetrical 940 up and down with 1 gig. I’m getting about 2.3 gig down and 1.4 up with 2 gig. The tech converted my existing telephone line ends to Ethernet Jack. The telephone line is rated Cat 5e.
The router is probably needed for the phone to work through VoIP, my grandma has frontier for phone and internet (dual DSL) and they have it set up so there is a wire that looks like a AC power wire with the thin part in the middle separating the two wires that comes off the pole outside and goes to a small grey box on the east wall outside of the house and there are three wires that come out of the grey box two of them go to the front of the house to go through the wall of the front room where the router (also from Arris) and a old acer SFF PC with windows 7 home are and the other wire from the grey box comes over to the south east corner of the living room to go through the wall and plug into the back of the base for the phones (they are wireless), it was set up that way with 2 wires (one for the phone and one for internet) for a long time until they put another DSL connection in when they got rid of the modem and replaced the router but it's still slow and gets beaten by my phone's 4G LTE connection, my phone is a unlocked Google Pixel 3a and I have the unlimited plus plan on Google Fi.
How does the connection of your Dad looks like 7 Month later ? Latency still as Low as it was and Speeds still good ? Follow Up Video would be nice also if possible traceroutes thanks :)
Sadly, only Comcast here in Eagan MN. There is CenturyLink here, but only DSL in our neighborhood. Closer to the twin cities part of Eagan, CenturyLink offers 1 gig fiber.
Interesting. I am here in CT and got the same service as your Dad. The intro price is $39/mo for the first year. I got phone which added $10/mo. The service includes one Eero 6 pro - I got a second Eero that was supposed to cost an extra $5/mo, but I think it slipped through the cracks. All totaled, I pay $53/mo with tax. The service has been rock solid (knock on wood). There is no contract. I got $100 gift card that I will have to repay (pro rated) if I cancel. I also got a $200 gift card for referring my neighbor. Such a deal.
No contract? I thought all plans required one. That is all that is holding me back
@@bane2256 I was offered the choice of a 1 year contract with a $100 gift card, or no contract with no gift card. Somebody I know was able to get a $100 gift card and did not have to sign a contract.

@@bane2256 I just signed up with no contract and a $200 gift card. I think it all depends on whom you speak with. I contacted the Frontier rep that was coming door to door.
@@chrischauncey7681 ok thank you
I'm in CT and they knocked on my door yesterday. I signed up for the 1GB plan.
69.99 per month. We'll see...
Any brand/model suggestions for anyone considering buying their own fiber optic modem (and/or router) as opposed to using the one the ISP wants to provider? Using their equipment usually bloats the monthly bill though I'm not sure if that's still standard practice like it is for cable internet...
I think on the fiber stuff (at least for the type of residential service offered here) you need to use their equipment. Even on the Comcast Gigabit Pro service I have to use their switch at the point of entry but connect to my own equipment from there.
@@LonSeidman Thanks for the info, good to know!
Great video. Thanks. I also live in Connecticut and a call this evening from Frontier. I currently have Comcast for internet. Can you tell me if the fiber ONT usually replaces the network interface device on the outside of the home? Also how does Frontiers home phone connect to the Frontier router since I assume all the inside wire is no longer used? Thanks very much.
There's an RJ11 phone jack on the ONT that they'll connect to your home phone wiring for the phone. They'll install a box outside and run the fiber from that box inside to where the ONT will be.
Mines coming very soon. End of year. A lot of action near me
I am just curious if the $54.99 includes the ONT and router or if there is an additional charge for that. I know in my neck of the woods the modem is given free but you have to pay for the router.
ONT has no charge
Loosing the packets per upload/download right? Also didn’t Xfinity just open their networks so the upgraded servers should be pretty great! Also reflection and resistance in the plant has a lot to do with fluctuations, Frontier here in Huntington is pretty great. Xfinity charging 80 per 500 down and 20 upload is atrocious, also frontier is sharing through laser not standard RF (GAME CHANGER) thanks for the video please keep them coming you guys are an information elephant! 👌
That’s originally why I ditched Comcast because I needed to fight to get the drop replaced due to salt corrosion
You don’t have to have that router for voice service, it can be run directly off the ont. Also, you don’t share your connection with anyone, that fiber is dedicated all the way back to the central office.
I was just going to post a reply to somebody else's post about how their connections slows down when all the students are moving in. I am having frontier fiber installed tomorrow and was told that it's a dedicated, unlike the sharing we do with Comcast. I was glad to see your post because this is what Frontier told me, which is why I decided to try them out. My concern is with their 4999 price and no contract. What happens three months, 6 months, a year from now? Is my $49.99 bill going to suddenly become $150? The salesperson says no, but without a contract... Thoughts? Then again without a contract, if that happens, I just quit!
they also provide the eero 6 for free you can get to 2 of them any additional access point they charge 5 bucks. (Internet only plan though)
And those eeros are much better routers than that Arris modem.
I also have the 1Gb frontier service in Connecticut. I've had it over a year now. Great speeds and service so far. Unfortunately when they installed it. It took them 3 triys to get it right.
Frontier 'techs' are CWA hacks.
Chimming in from Shelton! I've seen the frontier guys driving all over the place! How is your father's fiber doing? Have xfinity gig! Works well just have to work on the price! I would be 2 tv's streaming... Would the switch be worth it? Hope all is well stay warm, and get ready for snow! Best S
I know this is an old video but, I’m Also in CT and have the 500 plan. My WiFi speeds are about 450 up and down using 5 GHZ and about 65 up and down using 2.4 GHz. That’s with me sitting right in front of the router. Can someone let me know what they get using WiFi 2.4 ghz please?
I’m seriously considering frontier but I’m worried about gaming and I run like 50 devices on Wi-Fi and work off it … I’m not sure how they work outages etc. but with Cox I’m definitely not getting the 1000mbps I pay for my bill is $150 just the internet to cut that in half would be great if it’s not bootleg
my 1gbps I'm getting isn't contracted? I checked says no contract
I live in Spring Hill FL and finally have a fiber co. Installing in my area. Spectrum has screwed us for years with unreliable internet knowing we the people had no other option. We will in January so watch out spectrum !
Have you made a follow up to this video?
At the end of your current Comcast contract are you going to consider switching to services like Frontier? Would you choose to save some money and change down to say 1 Gig symmetrical? Or have you found a use for the higher speed?
I’m going to seriously consider it. The Comcast connection has been extremely reliable which is just as important as the speed they’re delivering - so that’ll be one of the factors I’ll consider.
The contract is not required to lock in the price but for the add on visa gift card offer
Not sure my ont keeps breaking. their coming out to replace it again for the 3rd time
The address checking tool on the Frontier website has been totally inaccurate for years, so that isn't a surprise.
I also live in CT and am thinking of switching from Spectrum 300mbs service to Frontier 1 Gig fiber. I'm currently paying $85/mo for Spectrum and my recent speed test showed my download speed was 3 mbs. Three!! I tested again today, same results. So it looks like I'm going to get frontier for $60/mo for 300% speed increase. Cheaper, faster, and more reliable. Ok, I think I've made my decision.
Just make sure you're testing speed on a wired connection vs. wifi - many times slow download speeds are due to wifi issues inside the home - not the ISP.
Like to see that level of service at that price point with Fios
My new frontier fiber seems very slow at times. I am having much more time waiting for pages to load.
Neighborhoods aren’t sharing connection.
When we do an install you have a direct line dedicated only to your home
Hi Lon. Where was that cranberry place or festival? Dad didn't want Google voice via Obihai?
It was in Nantucket, MA! I may suggest the Google Voice option to him.
I love my att fiber internet it's very fast.
Lon, do you have an update on the Frontier Fiber Internet service at your dad’s? Speed? Reliability?
I also live in in Connecticut. And I have found this service to be much better than Xfinity or frontier DSL connection. Very reliable. The only issue I've had is loss of power and getting their OMT box back online. I lost power in the morning two weekends ago and was not able to get the internet connection back until 11:30 that evening. After talking with frontier they said a technician needed to come out and it would take 2 weeks before the first technician could come. Other than the support that I got, I have found frontier to be a good service.
This has a static IP?
I had 520/520 for 11 years now. 10.000/10.000 is max you could get at home at my ISP since 2014, but that's too fast even 8 years later.
If you enter your address and try to click go it won't work. You have to enter your address then select your address from the drop-down menu below it before it will allow you to proceed
Hi Lon, long time viewer I have go net speed, and I was told by them that frontier does not own any of the fiber lines that the fiber lines are actually leased from go net speed the ONT that front chair is using is the exact same ONT used by Gonet speed, and this information was told to me by a technician who installs it on a daily basis for Gonet speed
That is not true - Frontier is paying for the fiber they are running although they use contractors to do most of the backbone infrastructure work. But they both are using the same technology that you can see in the tour we took with GoNetSpeed recently: ua-cam.com/video/E8258JtwCUc/v-deo.html
I’m on the verge of calling them for the fiber here in ct. I have read that you can save money by getting the utube tv. Since my new tv is a smart Samsung tv, I am told I can do that. I really am confused though. I still need the fiber from frontier if I want that? What is cutting the cord then? Btw. Thanks for your fine video. ❤
"cutting the cord" is the term used for getting ride of "cable tv". But to have internet, you still have to subscribe to some sort of service. Beyond that, there are many option for streaming TV. I use UA-camTv myself
Had Frontier in the past, and they were horrible! Always internet outages. Fast forward to the present, and I am giving them a second chance. I am giving them a second chance mainly because of Xfinity constantly raising their prices. In the last 5 years my bill just for internet has gone from $50, $60,$70 and now the most recent price $90. Frontier fiber internet with 1 gig service is $48 with autopay. Just recently had the service installed. So far so good. Speed increase is very noticeable. Fingers crossed.
I really hope you revisit this with an update on performance. I recently purchased it for my parents who up until now have only had satellite internet options. Would love to know if the investment seems to be worth it long term.
It’s a no brainer. Any fiber option is worth it for the long term.
In Southern California they don’t have phone service anymore! I had their Fiber phone service! It was a nightmare having it!
Good review, they just launched 5Gbps!
Lon, I have a few questions.
1. Does their modem offer bridge mode or can you hook up your own router directly to the OTI without using their modem? I few years ago I helped a lawyer connect her home in West Hartford to fiber and as I remember, there was no modem. Just the OTI -> Ethernet -> Lawyer's Router.
2. Will Frontier participate in the government ACP program for those who qualify for ACP. T-Mobile Home 5G does not, at least in East Hartford, participate in ACP.
3. The one year price lock, is it tied to a contract longer than one year? A common sleazy trick of both Cox Communications and Comcast Cable is they make the contract for 2 years, but the price lock is only available for the first year. I am wondering if Frontier is using the same playbook Cox and Comcast use.
1. If you use the phone service you have to use their router but you could DMZ it to another one.
2. I think they are participating as they are taking government money for part of their roll out.
3. Not sure on that one they don't put much on their website so I'm not sure what my Dad agreed to over the phone.
Frontier is a participant in the ACP program. I get a discount with them.
@@ryanhuang8498 thanks Ryan.
@@teknerd For $15 for 500 Mbps down and up and with telephone included using fiber optic. That's a bargain with ACP discount.
Just be sure your power in the home can handle 💪 the service because mine went down for 3 day's Yesterday finally fix it 😀 but make sure plug power suply in to wall outlet on the wall
I also had a problem with my ONT box from frontier. I was adding some wise smart switches to my house and turned off the power in the basement where the ONT box was located. At the replacing the light, I noticed that my internet connection has stopped. Our powered off the Nokia ONT device three different times to no avail. After getting no place with frontier and getting a scheduled date for 2 weeks later, I just left the box plugged in. The box. Finally got internet connection after 8 hours of doing a boot cycle. But it finally came back. Now I don't have to wait till 2 weeks for frontier. I suggest getting a small UPS connected to the ONT box and possibly your router so you don't have to worry about loss of service.
As far as your comment about not getting as fast of an upload speed as you probably should, the quality of the router especially when you are wirelessly connected plays a much greater role when it comes to gigabit Internet. Try a wired connection to the router when judging speeds and then, compare it to your router.
Some of you who read this post will suddenly be really surprised by your gigabit speed when you are wired to your router. You can get away with maxing out your old cable modem quite nicely. But, despite even having the best wireless router, you’re going to know it’s wireless when you’re connected to gigabit. that’s just the nature of wireless. And, at those speeds, the farther away you get from the router, the worse it gets.
Don’t hate your wireless router however. Despite the shortcomings at these speeds, wireless routers do an amazing job at maintaining a very solid connection at good distances even with many devices attached. Just understand that in the world of gigabit Internet, wireless will not deliver the speeds that you’ll get if you do connect with an ethernet cable.
This was noted in the video, all tests were done via ethernet. The reality is that peering arrangements make it unlikely you'll ever see peak speed out of any single connection.
Love my GoNetSpeed.
Everybody I know that has it loves it! They couldn't afford to come down my way unfortunately. I interviewed one of their VP's a little while back in my broadband playlist linked in the description
@@LonSeidman yeah I remember that. Mike is no longer with the company. I used to talk to him every few weeks when they were setting up Newington.
But have both GoNetSpeed and Frontier available to me. And I get the gig plan for the price of 500 meg. But sometimes I wonder if Frontier has better peering than GoNetSpeed.
I also wish they would offer more than a gig for speeds. But I don’t use what I have now. So I would be paying more not to use it. :)
They stopped their rollout in West Haven about a mile away from my house due to lack of interest from my neighbors I was told. So I’m stuck with Comcast for now.
Frontier is offering a $24.99 package for Fiber 500 for 12 months with an Amazon Eero router.. Wondering if you or viewer has tried it and if there's a downside?
No downside - Both my Mom and Dad have the 500 service and it has been rock solid. The only issue would be what they make the price a year from now.
They have a deal now for $24.99 a month for 500 speed, Im trying it and doing a video on it
In my area they're offering 59.99 for locked in at 3 years plus a $200 gift card but if you take the gift card then you locked in for a year or if you cancel before then then there's a fee p
I live in Milford. I had to sign an agreement because frontier put a box on a pole that is 40 feet from my house. I have optimum and pay $80 a month for 300 internet service. So the question is, should I dump them and go with frontier? I hear their service is horrible. Bill fluctuations after contract ends. And horrible customer service. But being so close to my house it is tempting to get gigabit service for less than what I pay now. Also, the set up. People tell me the service in your home is all wireless. Currently I have cable running everywhere. I ran a lot myself. So I have concerns about how it hooks up in home. I also have a wifi 6 router with beamforming. I'd like to keep this router. Agh, so many questions and concerns. I work from home and the 300 plan I have now works but like I said id like to tap into my routers abilities with gigabit service. Just not sure about frontier
I've had them here three times. Still not working. The destroyed part of the landscaping in the back yard and left the debris. Totally ridiculous.
