- In this video I go back to basics an set out to enjoy the creative process of taking photos in order to overcome a bad case of creator block and imposter syndrome. I go for a Photo Walk by the grand canal in Dublin with my Trusty Fujifilm X-E4 and talk about how you sometimes need to take photos just for yourself and enjoy the process as a form of meditation

Good to see you on here again Thomas. I've always enjoyed your videos as well as your brilliant and well-put-together blog posts. Sod the imposter syndrome. We're all winging it to some degree, but people like you who give us great tips and advice, help the rest of us wing it that bit easier :)
Thanks David! I appreciate the kind comments!
Lovely video, and welcome back. I think, for me, once I stopped thinking of every photowalk as "potential content creation" for social media it removed a lot of the pressure. Most of the photos i take now will never see the light of day. Which is perfectly fine.
Thanks seb!
I use the 16-80 on my Fuji X-S10 plus back button focus. It's very nice lens for me. I'll see if it's even nicer with larger focus size. Thanks!
Brilliant stuff Thomas! I’ve been a photographer here in the States for 40 years, the last 16 as a newspaper photographer, and I still go through similar phases as you describe-creative block and impostor syndrome. I just returned from a 4-day trip to the Smoky Mountains where I shot photos that were meaningful to me and I have to say, I feel recharged and like my photographic eye is back. I think it helps to go somewhere different and get away from the familiar-to give your visual eyes a chance to see something new. Always enjoy your videos! On a side note, I have been fortunate enough to visit Dublin and Ireland three times and absolutely love it there! I’m hoping to make another trip within the next few years or so-fingers crossed!
Thanks Byron! Glad you liked your time in Dublin. You might be surprised when you get back - there's been quite a lot of building work going on so a lot has changed! (and a lot has stayed the same!!!)
welcome back
Good to see you back 😀
Thanks! 😁
I just use Instagram as something I can reference when I need to look back. If I get likes well enough. I just shoot because I enjoy the hobby more than anything. Not much of a market for what I do well at least it's less pressure. Not having to produce. Just enjoy it.
I stopped trying to get likes on instagram a long time ago! I think instagram is now more about lifestyle than photography now anyway. In my opinion.
Don't worry. And don't make it hard for you. Leonardo didn't have to feed the algorithm!
True!!!
