Red Wings! Possibly the most famous boot company there is? Maybe rivaled by Timberlands and Doc Martens (I don't honestly know, they may be way bigger). Either way the are some of the most DESIRED boots out there.
So Red Wing Boots have a lot of heavy hitters. They of course have the 8111 Iron Ranger, the 3343 Blacksmith, the 875 Moc Toe, AAAAND THIS BOOT! The best mens boot for 2021 and beyond. This is the Norwegian or Storm Welted 1907. The best Red Wing Moc Toe Boot in the business. In this video we are going to go over sizing your Red Wings, breaking in the leather on these boots (copper rough and tough), where to get Red Wings in NYC (Manhattan), I'll explain what a Goodyear welt is and what a storm welt is, and FINALLY I will do a Red Wing waterproof boot test. I love doing those. Just piles of fun. OH and how could I forget, we do this all with NICK FROM STRIDEWISE!

The reason why it says "Norwegian like" is the stich on the side is just decorative. It's not stitched to the boot on these. But it does look cool. A lot if boots have this like Thorogood. But at least those are a real leather welt. Basically a Goodyear welt with an extra piece of leather that goes up the side with a stich to nowhere. If you don't believe peel it back. Or watch rose anvils episode he did a month ago comparing the 1907 to the 875.
Bingo.
I got my 1907s in April. Happy with them in the extreme. A little tough to break in, but well worth it. They have proven waterproof enough in rain and wet grass here in the UK. They have conformed perfectly to my feet, and are super comfortable. The wider last makes a difference as I have wide, flat feet. I like the look of the storm welt too. I will likely get some 875s in time as I do love the classic colour of the leather on the definitive Red Wing moc toe.
I really missed boot videos!! I have a pair of 875's, personally, it comes down to the leather for me. A moc-toe in Oro Legacy with a storm welt would probably be perfect. Great to see you meeting up with other heritage youtubers.
Ty so much! And yes I agree!
Great video Michael! 👏👏👏
Excellent collab and excellent video! Keep em coming
Ty!
Love the 1907s but I'll probably end up with the 875. That leather just patinas so nicely!
Facts!
Every single video I've got a feeling that moves me to like the video "only" to make him happy. But it isn't true! It's not only because I want to make him happy, it's mostly because the video shows a lot of work, passion, enjoyment, ... He is a star and UA-cam didn't shown it yet.
Well ty!!
Cool seeing you two together. Happy to hear about grown and sewn. Let us know if you have any more NYC gems. I'm currently trying to find some decent spots to get my wife some heritage inspired/ametora/amekaji goods. Was at self edge today and they said they don't have much in the way of women's jeans (much less other clothes)
I’ll keep you updated!!
Got 5 year old 1907’s. Absolutely amazing.
Great review from a RW fan in the UK. Have Blacksmiths and Chukkas so I need a pair of 907s!
I just got a pair of red wing 1907s a few weeks ago. Good timing!
Well BOOM ty!
got these at a discounted price from a local store, about $50 cheaper than retail. living in portland, or, and dealing with wet conditions a lot, i can’t complain. these are by far my favorite boot.
Another great video. Good point about the sizing. My 1907s fit like my RW work boots. True to size. Iron rangers are a half size down, but not the 1907.
Fall videos inbound!!!
can't wait
FINALLY
Glad you joined the redwing gang. My trusty saddle black iron rangers are sooo nice and will probably last years. For moc toes I got a Thursday diplomat and it is holding up well, very comfortable but I wish it had a storm welt.
Glad to be here!
By saddle black is that another term for black harness?
I love my 1907s! I’ve had them for 8 years. They have some big cracks after riding through a rain storm and not caring for them after. Enjoy them!
Also supposed to be in Manhattan next month and hoping to go to grown and sewn when I’m there!
I’m not sure if the 1907s are advertised as waterproof like the blundstones though haha.
Haha they aren’t but I always like to check!
@@TheIronSnail Zappos sells a Moc Toe with Goretex which supposed to be more waterproof.
I have been waiting for this
ME TOO
Awesome vid, Stridewise is one of my favorite channels.
He’s the man!
I got a pair of 1907’s from Red Wing Amsterdam a couple weeks ago. Love them! Also the break in is not that uncomfortable for me as I was expecting, but mine are made on a wider last, so that might help as well
Ahh okay I feel that (you may also just be tough)
Hey I’m also going to get them from Red Wing Amsterdam. What do you mean by “‘made on a wider last”? I have pretty wide feet but I don’t see how I can order the wider versions online.
@@robindejong1240 red wings sells deff size widths. normal width is a D, wider sizes are EE & EEE. They should have options when you click a size on there website with selecting width on the top column above the sizes available. I would suggest to go into a red wing shop if you have one locally to get them to size your feet properly, I had no break in period tbh when I did that for my work boots.
Break in on the 1907s was almost immediate for me. Couldn't believe it considering how heavy duty they are. I own alot of Redwings and these are some of the best imo. Just an amazing design and build
I didn't get wide or anything. I wear 12s in shoes, 11s in any Redwing Moc Toe, including these (without insert for now), and 10.5s in blacksmiths. I know, crazy huh. And I have wider feet at the front. But they all feel perfect and like slippers now.
Honestly none of them were hard to break in. The CRT blacksmiths a little tough. I own a couple different pairs of blacksmiths. Roughnecks maybe took a little time
But these broke in immediately. And fit like someone made them for me. In love with you them. You guys should be wearing some type of wool sock with all your Redwings btw. Once I break these in fully, I'll put the insert back in.
Our boy finally does another boot video
The boy is BACK also @ me not realizing people like boot reviews
I've been a diesel mechanic for 37 years and redwings have been my feet companion ,I resole them once but I have 8 pairs so I keep alternating them
Redwing is very good Bought some weastern bullhides Worked contruction they lasted so freaking long and the bullhide hardly had scratches.
rewatching some of your older videos like this, i am thinking about getting some red wings, but only after my MIE Doc Martens are worn to shit. And a cool addition to Red Wings would be a Selvedge Jeans Combo with Jacket. Love your Videos. A Project or Video with Iron Snail x Rose Anvil would be cool
I just realized that you are Michael from the Theo & Harris..
So happy to find a watch nerd who also love shoes!
Hey small world!
Great review, fantastic collaboration with the King of Australians Red Wing Fan Club…
Bahahaha ty!
Stridewise and The Iron Snail?! Yes! 👏😎
AGREED
3:58 I love the patina on your dog
Bahahahaha
When it comes to moc toe. Thorogood has it in my book. Although redwing iron ranger and black Smith is chef kiss
I've never been first before and to this day I've never found a boot that I'm 100% happy with. Maybe today's the day! Nice video by the way
Ty!!
Stridewise? Must be Nick, or something.
Excellent video. Wish I would’ve seen this a few years back. Alas, time and stuff.
STRIDEWISE! King Nick
Quality!!! As always ;)
Ty!
Great video!!
Ty!
love ur videos! i recently bought a pinqponq fleece jacket. the jacket was just 140€ and ya its decent but not high end jacket. I also got an Acne Studios Beanie and Scarf, which i really like and cant wait to wear in the winter.
Love Acne! They always have pretty sweet designs
Come for the boot review, stay for the Stormzy reference! Another great video man, they get better every week!
Hahahaha finally! A Stormzy fan!
welterweights are between 156 and 170 in the UFC. I'll take my pin now, thank you!
You got denied since you didnt mention Kg or lbs.
Took me WAY too long to understand this comment bahahaha
@@TheIronSnail What blue check flannel are you wearing in this video and where can I get one? I have the 875s. Should I really get the 1907s too?
So is the Norwegian welt kind of a mix between an out stitch with an added welt?
Cool description of the Norwegian welt. Have you ever tried Paraboot? I have a pair, and they are Norwegian welted. Cool shoes.
I have not! I’ll check them out
If you want a moc toe, yeah, you gotta go Red Wing. But I’m Iron Rangers all day. I got size 13 feet so moc toes make me look like I’m wearing Frankenstein shoes.
But shoutout Nick! More collabs please. I like it when UA-cam hangs out together
Glad you liked it my man!
Size 13 feet problems are something I’ll never experience sadly but that makes sense! Also yes we love Nick!
"875 Irish Setter" and "9060 Beckman Flat Box" are popular in Japan 👍️
I’ll look into them!
Where'd you buy yours? I went to go check them out on Red Wings website cuz you actually got me intrigued but they're sold out in my width, also copper or cement color, which one should I get or do you think will break in nicer for that classic broken-in boot look after significant wear??
Nice! Finally upgrading your foot collection. Just a few thoughts, you should listen to Ron Rider on the Stitchdown podcast about sizing, he’s down two episodes about sizing which are great. I think you could change your perspective on how to size boots and shoes. Second, these are leather boots, they’re not waterproof. It’s a little unfair to submerge them and to feel disappointed that they aren’t hydrophobic and completely repellent. Thanks for getting in the GYW game, hope you buy those Yuketans!
Ty for the info!! Like I said though I was comparing them to my Blundstones which are very very resistant and didn’t expect them to live up to that but I will still interested!!
(I think I’ll def get those Yuketans!!)
i do have right now the 8085 for 4mos, so i was wonderin should i buy this boots as my nxt Rwboots?
I tend to like iron rangers more in terms of look. But these are definitely a close 2nd of mine. Awesome video man!
Ty my friend!!
I got the Limited Edition 8876; the best of both worlds.
OoOoo lucky!
Great video! Just a quick one. I have the 875 in us 9 and bought the 1907 in us 9 as well. I fear that they will be too big in a few weeks. Maybe I should get the 1907 in us 8,5?! Any thoughts from your side in terms of sizing these to models?! Thank you and best regards from Germany 🤘
Hey what brand are those bags?
Literally had to choose between the 875 and 1907 this weekend and I ended up going with the 875’s. Might have to go back to get the 1907’s though
Both are great choices! You really can’t lose
Do you wear them with the insert or without?
If you do some conditioning/waterproofing to the leather, that should help the leather and stitching significantly. I use Venetian Shoe Cream, and buff it down with a horse hair brush. It has waxes that help with waterproofing, conditions leather at the same time, and the color is the same after 2 days. However, I don't live in a place that requires my boots to be extremely waterproof, and there are tons of products and methods that you can find online. Some people (me) favor a product that protects the leather and the integrity of its color. But if you don't care about darkening your boots, mink oil is great for waterproofing, and I've heard good things about Sno-seal
I’m actually going to Sno Seal my Blundstones this year I think!
Michael and Nick??? I'm here for all this weirdness.
Bahahahahaha
Hehe... totally agree. I watched this and it was freaky cool weirdness!😎
Are 1907s wider in the midfoot? The outside mid foot is too narrow on 875s and my foot rests off the insole and hurts.
I am glad to see you're finally getting into some half decent boots the Blundstones you have are a very cheaply made boot as far as I'm concerned.
I have owned a pair of Blundstone and when I bought my first Red Wings (Iron Rangers) there was no looking back.
I have 2 pairs of Iron Rangers and a pair of the red wing lineman boots with the Christie sole similar to the Mac toes bought in Amsterdam .
I love these boots and I thought they were the greatest until I bought a pair of Whites Smoke Jumpers and man o man I tell you the difference is like driving a VW and driving a Mercedes
I loved the Whites so much I bought another pair of the Ranchers by White these feel like slippers after I broke them in and are my go to comfort boots
I have not yet tried Nick's but it is on my list.
I love watching you're channel, keep up the great videos about denim boots and all mens fashion...
Cheers
I’ve heard insane things about whites and nicks! One day I’ll check them both out
Ty so much!
I own several pairs of the 1907s. Not because I like to collect boots, but because I bought several pair trying to find a pair that actually fit and didn’t wreck my feet. I wear a size 9 normally and have measured my foot to ensure that is the size I should wear. I also went into the Red Wing store and had my feet measured by that fancy device thingy. So that day I went with the 8.5. Wore them for about a month and they gave me terrible blisters on my heel due to heel slip. So I bought a pair of size 8 on eBay, same shit. So I bought a size 7.5. These don’t slip in my heel but still are very uncomfortable. I’ve owned them for about a year and worn them over 100 times and still feel like they are not even close to broken in. The soles literally don’t bend when I walk so it feels like I’m walking on a brick. I even tried bending them with a ratchet strap and leaving them over night. This helped a little bit but not enough to wear them for over 2 hours and feel good. Idk. I’ve worn lots of tough boots in the past, like the red wing loggers when I was fighting firea and these broke in fine. The 1907 soles are just bricks.
Is there a similar quality boot with the same type of sole that isn’t a moc toe that you’d recommend?
I have the 875's but i do covert the step up, which are the 1907's.. just about to have my 875's re soled. That is definitely their Achilles heal.
Agreed 100% that crepe sole isn’t too tough
I love my 1907's On mt feet right now.
Do these boots have a arch support?
i like the looks of the 1907s but ill probably end up getting the 875s because i usually wear size 13 wide and the 875s have more size options.
Why is the canvas weekender moc boot no longer made???
What kind of jeans are wearing with the boots? They look good 👍
For a Norwegian welt, you could also get a pair of Paraboot 🇫🇷❗️
I love my 875s there beasts
Just got my 1907’s last week. Let the break in begin. But who is Theo and who is Harris and why aren’t you talking watches? Ha! Enjoyed vid !
Hey,am happy with my 8138's...In fact, dont find much difference to 1907's.
But am sure I'll get me a 1907 pair in the near future.
I hear a lot of good things about the 8138’s!
Best way to think of a Norwegian welt is it's a stitch-down construction with a goodyear welt. One stitch connects the upper, midsole, welt, and outsole, while a second horizontal stitch connects the upper, welt, and midsole. The extra protection from water is from the upper not tucking under the insole as in a traditional goodyear welt. A possible disadvantage is in that the second stitch is more exposed and not sandwiched between the welt and upper, which can let more water in. Both are water resistant, but neither is water proof without an additional barrier or coating.
Except the Norwegian stitch on this book is fake. I own a pair and love them, but the top stitch does *not* attach to the upper, it's a fake stitch.
niCe very niCe Red Wings mO toe Boots...I LOve it...watching frOm Cebu City, Philippines....
So moc toe or classic work chelsea for use as a renovations general contractor. Would be worn approx 3 to 4 days per week. We are not framers, or “rough” construction. I like the idea of the convenience of easy on and off with the work chelsea, but would like some input from anyone with experience on these.
Any good articles or guides to get into jeans? Been just wearing like standard levis or REI jeans but wanting to get some jeans that will last years, if not decades to be more sustainable. Thanks and great video!
Can’t recommend Reddit.com/r/rawdenim enough!
@@TheIronSnail thank you!
Definitely the best smelling shoes I own.
Could not agree more!
What’s your Brannock size?
I think the only thing that would make me choose a differed RW moc toe over this is I really like how the 8 inch looks
Idk man. I own a ton of Redwings and these are some of the nicest Moc toes I've ever worn or seen. They are heavy duty af, yet break in immediately. They also feel like I'm walking on clouds even without the insert. And they're gorgeous
The 8in isn't a bad option. They have the same outsole and supposedly they're easier to break in. I personally own the 1907 and I don't think you'll go wrong either way.
new boot goofin'
Boot GOOFIN feet STROLLIN
Are these bulkier compared to other redwings mocs because of the insole?
I own an 8188 and the 1907. Fit wise the 1907 is roomier but still in the same size but visually they aren't different.
What’s the brand of the 20 oz canvas bag? Thanks ✌️
Bradley Mountain!
Thank you! I'm visiting my brother in London this weekend, and going to the Redwing store in London's Soho (the only one in the UK) to buy some 1907s, he got some 875s when he moved down there a couple of months ago. Love your content ✌😁
Woah, enjoy!! And ty so much!
They need to make them in larger sizes... I am missing out on some sweet boots!
hey great video! may i ask what is your size in sneakers, specially on nike's?
Yes! A 9!
@@TheIronSnail what size are you in RW 875?? :)
8!
Was nick pitching or catching?
What’s the song at 6:54?
I still prefer 875, as I m only going for the looks, functional wise, there are so many options else where
This is true!
Nearly 3 years late to the party; thanks, algorithm! Anyway, just wanted to clarify: owning something in camouflage (especially one that hasn't been used in decades) is not stolen valor. Stolen valor is someone pretending they have served in the armed forces or inflating their service (think claims of awards the vet didn't actually earn). People have gotten pretty defensive of the whole "stolen valor" thing without fully understanding what it actually is, which has led to people (civilians and vets) being harassed and threatened. It's totally fine if Nick (or anybody else) doesn't want to wear camouflage patterns, but it's no more stolen valor than wearing a peacoat (which was still standard issue in the Navy in 2012 when I enlisted) (that's not a brag... I hated that job; just pointing out that people wear military stuff all the time and it's largely benign). Idk if Filson still sells that bag, but it's totally fine to get it. Just don't slap a bunch of medals on it and ask to board the plane early. That's a dick move.
What jeans are you wearing at the 11:46 mark?
LSG Brunswick T!
6:30 check out Rose Anvil’s latest video. It is not a real Norwegian welt on the 1907. The stitching on top is cosmetic only, it does not go through into upper.
what a crazy thumbnail! already seen the video but i had to click again
I wore the 875 during monsoon season in Asia and yea it was not fun :-D
Hahahaha you need some gum boots!
Conditioner helps, but I think your own body heat does more to break in the leather to the shape of your feet than anything else.
Agreed!
Technically speaking 1907 is the better boot (due to storm welt). But I have both and like to wear the Moc Toe (in my case 8863 Slate) more. It is a bit lighter and roomier than 1907, It also breathes better. I also like the thick leather insole better than removable insoles in 1907. If I was walking in rain definitely I would rather wear 1907, but for normal wear the regular Moc Toe is more fun to wear.
does the 1907 not have a thick veg tan insole?
@@hunderskunder2596 yes it does, but it has another removable insole with leather/foam on top of it.
The 875 and the 1907 have the exact same veg tan 5mm thick insole. Not sure why you’re saying you like the insole of the 875 better. Remove the inserts in the 1907 and you have exactly the same thing as the 875.
What jeans are you wearing in the thumbnail?
LSG Brunswick T!
A storm welt isn’t meant to make them submergible, it’s meant to make them rain resistant.
This boots looks nice good video Michael :)
Ty my friend!
What is the difference between these and the 875?
It’s made on a different last. It’s a little wider. And it has a fake storm welt, as opposed to the regular flat welt of the 875.
1907s are nice but don’t beat the classic look of the 875. There’s no mistaking the boots with the 875s but the 1907s look like most other moc toes . Both are pretty amazing boots though
Agreed!! I may or may not be getting a certain pair of 875’s soon :)
Gotta make sure ppl know ur wearing redwings. Don’t want ppl to mistake them for anything less. Jesus loll
Yes ❤😊
Which is bests in youyr view?

Hahaha you guys are funny
Man, I want a pair of raw denim jeans so bad but I don’t know what brand to go with. Can you help me decide?
Yup! Naked & Famous is my fav “get into raw denim” brand
@@TheIronSnail Thank you, I was thinking about that brand too. Do you have any videos you can link that will get me started on how to wear and take care of raw denim?
Iron heart 25oz
This red wing is beautiful but is easy to use daily?
Technically every other day so the leather has time to dry but I’m sure you’d be okay! Get boot trees!
@@TheIronSnail I have a leather boot from Levis and when I wear it comes at the end of the day it seems to weigh a lot, do you have that same impression with your boots?
Grant Stone in badalassi leather moc toe is the best.
No, the Nicks moc toe is the best.
Also the 1907s have a second layer of cushion. Between the outsole and the boot, there is that black layer of extra cushion. So they are a great deal. That being said, I’m doing the 875 next or the 8 inch version.
Ah darn, can’t believe I missed that!
LOL, you’re clueless. That’s the rubber midsole Einstein. The 875 has the exact same thing, except it’s white and matches the outsole. And, it’s not for “cushion.”
@@whereRbearsTeeth cool.
The slightly more roomy toe area, comparatively speaking, with an insole that's also removable to accommodate custom orthotics are the key differences for me, thus why I have the 1907's.
What make is that bag i need one! Lol
