    would you say temple is immersed in the city or completely separate? I know you said it's a few subway stops away but does it feel completely different from the city? also- if you can answer this- do you think there is a good mix of students from out of state? I am from minnesota & temple is top on my list of schools.

      Temple has a city vibe but it is outside of central philly. It does feel separate from the city but you still get the city vibe if that makes sense. The mix of people is from all over. There are students from everywhere. Hope that helped!

    Did you know anyone going to temple when you first got there and if not, how hard was it to make friends?

    • @AndreasLair
      @AndreasLair  7 років тому +5

      The only person I knew going into Temple was this other girl in my graduating class who also decided to go to Temple. I didn't start seeing her until the second semester and we weren't really close to begin with, so I was pretty much all on my own. I don't think it was hard at all to make friends, especially since I lived in a dorm and everyone I met was very social and really wanted to get to know everyone. I also think being part of an LLC helped a lot too because the first week we had to do activities together so we kinda had to talk to each other lol. If you aren't in a dorm I think the second easiest way to make friends is by joining clubs because I met so many awesome people from that too.

    Which hall would you think is best for a freshman? Like dorm-wise and access to things? tysm I loved this video you're so cute

    • @AndreasLair
      @AndreasLair  7 років тому +7

      Fluffy Lollipop From what i heard from other dorms that people live in, I think the most social dorms are White and J&H and I also think 1300. Either of the dining halls are pretty close to any of the residence halls. White is on the other side of Broad St so it might take a few minutes longer to get to class. Also, White and J&H are on the opposite side of campus from the gym if you're interested in going there. 1300 and Morgan are closest to the frats so if you wanna party in the winter you don't have to walk far in the cold (and it gets cold). If you live in White then Sammy's (a frat) is right around the corner if you don't want to walk far in the cold. 1940 is right next to a 7/11, subway, and chinese place (also some food trucks). Theres 2 different Rite Aid's by White and then by Morgan. The grocery store is also right next to Morgan. In terms of subway stations, there's one by White and another by Morgan. I think that's it. Hopefully this wasn't too confusing of a comment lol.

    I'm a new subscriber and this video is amazing! Thanks girl for all the advice because Temple is actually one of my top schools! The only thing is my mom wants me to stay instate (since I'm from Boston, MA) because she highly believes that all of the best schools are in the New England area, also that it would be safer for me to stay near her because of all of the stories she has been hearing on the news about what happens on college campuses. I don't want to disappoint her since I'm a first generation student. I'm going to be apply to colleges in the fall since I'm a rising senior and I was wondering do you have any advice on how I can try to convince her to allow me to apply to out of state? Also do you have any advice on how the college application process is like? Thanks! 💗

      hello! I myself am paying my way through school and although I am using the infamous student loans and whatever I can get from FASFA, I suggest maybe applying for a job. I didn't have a job during my Freshman year, but I am highly considering one on or off campus for the coming years. The past few summers I have been working 2 jobs and trying to save whatever I can. Sorry I don't have any other good advice :( I'm still trying to figure it out myself.

    I want to go to temple, but my parents want me to go to Millersville due to distance. How do I convince them to be open-minded about it? Also I'm a junior in highschool.

    • @AndreasLair
      @AndreasLair  7 років тому

      maybe tell them you want to apply to both schools just so you can see where things go. it's always a good idea to at least tour the school so you can get a feel of the atmosphere and to hear about the many opportunities both schools offer. i'm from new jersey, and my parents wanted me to go to an in-state school because it would be cheaper, but i really wanted to go out-of-state and to be near a city. overall, i'm sure your parents would want you to be happy at the school of your choice than miserable. choosing a college is one of those things where you have a good amount of control as to where you'll end up. there's so much to think about (money, distance, opportunities) and since you're a junior you have some time to weigh the pros and cons. hope this helped :)

      Millersville is more "in the middle of nowhere" and temple is a big school in the city. Temple also has SO much to do on campus! I'm transferring there from la salle and there's a big difference between the two. If you really want to go to temple, go to temple! Or else you'll be unhappy like I was and will have to deal with the transfer process

    • @AndreasLair
      @AndreasLair  7 років тому +1

      So far I'm really enjoying it although I'm taking more courses for my major next semester. I also found from what other people have to say that it's super simple to double major in global studies and political science which is totally something I'm interested in. I believe most of the required classes are very similar since global studies is in the same department.

    • @leathejedi2099
      @leathejedi2099 7 років тому

      awesome! I really am stuck with what i wanna do but i know it would be a dream of mine to work for a non profit of some sort and help with international development or work with refugees or anything like that. i figured global studies would be the way to go unless i find something more suited for that.

    • @AndreasLair

      I completely resonate with this because that's something I really want to do. Also in this video I briefly talked about one of the clubs I will be a board member of (She's The First) and this summer some of the members and I are attending a convention in NYC for that because it's a national organization. Also, I was recently informed that this nonprofit org offers internships in NYC which is really cool. Basically, I would suggest getting involved with some clubs that are nonprofts so it would give you a better chance of potentially working for them in the future.

    Is there anything you would do differently if you had the chance to restart freshman year?

    • @AndreasLair
      @AndreasLair  7 років тому +2

      Good question. I think the thing that sticks out in my head the most is putting a little bit more effort in my work to get that A, where in reality I got a B or B+ in a class. Also, I wish I went into the city more and explored my first semester, but at the same time tokens cost money and as a first semester freshmen it makes sense to stay on campus and get used to that first. Another thing is being more wise with how I spent my money. Right now I am B R O K E and during the first semester it was just so easy to sit in class or in bed with your laptop and do some online shopping.

    hi i love your channel and im interested in temple university and i wanted to ask about the party scene especially since im a pretty shy person is it required for you to go to one lol. also, hows the school overall; do you like it?

    • @AndreasLair
      @AndreasLair  5 років тому

      Sabine Thimothee hi Sabine!! thank you so much for watching!! first i would like to say no. going out to parties is not required at all. if it’s not you’re thing, chances are there are also other students who would rather stay in and watch a movie or something. if you do decide to go out, always go with other people and never leave anyone behind as you make your way back to your dorms. don’t feel peer pressured to do anything you don’t want to do! second, as a rising senior and the fact that i made this very video during my freshman year i truly do love temple. sure, like many colleges and institutions it is not perfect, but we are the ones that must hold the institution accountable for what they do/what they are putting their money towards, etc. i love it because i have had so many doors open up for me these past few years, i love my professors, the location being so close to the city and the ability to hop onto a subway whenever i want. the most important thing, i would say, is to make the most out of your time there. opportunities will not be handed to you unless you do the work first!!

    And my son will also be White Hall. 3rd floor!!! His friend is leaving for the marines soon. So he's been spending as much time with his lifelong buddy as possible! So he hasn't been home all wknd!
    But I know he has his roommates he's connected with, and he is stoked!!!! #TUClassof2021 (& of course #TUclassof2020)
    Talk about the parties girl!!! We aren't dumb!!!! We did all the same things that most of our kids will be doing!!! Lol!!!
    The fact I grew up in Philly def has me a little concerned bc of the area, but I know my son pretty well. And I trust in his judgement! Or he would've committed to an in state school!!!! Lol! Or one of the schools in the New England region he was accepted to! (Which is what I was hoping for!) but he's a true Philadelphian! (Philly Born, Jersey raised, Temple Made!) he picked it! He's paying for it!!!

    • @AndreasLair
      @AndreasLair  7 років тому +1

      Haha. It's definitely good to trust your son's judgement in choosing to come here. I just moved out and came home for the summer and looking back, I am so glad I chose Temple. I've learned so much and definitely felt myself grow as an individual. Being in a city school, especially in Philadelphia, has been very rewarding for me and I can't see myself anywhere else.

    • @tr8529
      @tr8529 7 років тому

      Andrea Leoni I'm glad you had a great freshman year!!!! I know it will be a wonderful experience for my son and his friends that are leaving AC NJ, and venturing off to Philly!!!
      My son is used to South Philly and mummers parades every year! And most sundays we are there for Sunday dinner, (Italians never change their ways no matter what! You'd think we are feeding a 3rd world country)
      But I'm also aware that son takes his school work extremely seriously. I figure he may let the freshman year slip a bit, but you have to live and learn, because no matter how much mom tells him!!! He will not really grow and have the life experience unless he does it himself.
      I wish I could hold his hand forever. But that's not realistic! So I'll have to cut the cord in August! (I'll cry when that time comes! For now... I'm using retail therapy! And buying dorm room crap left and right!!! LOL!!! 😂😂😂)
      I will say I've learned this! Girls DEF HAVE IT MADE! when it comes to decorating a dorm room!!! Lmao!!!
      Guys are so limited!!! Ugh and I only have sons!!! I guess my sons girlfriends dorm will have to suffice!
      I do have a question, do you feel it's easy to find a job on campus, or at least very close by the campus. (Not work study, that does NOT pay at all what my sons going to need!)
      But I'd like for him to find something as close as possible.
      He had a summer job here. But I was wondering if maybe getting him up to there earlier to put in applications would be better then waiting until he's in school.
      Unless, that's a bad idea seeing I'm not sure when he finds out his school schedule for the fall.
      But he def needs a job!!!!!
      Well I hope you have a wonderful summer!!! I bet this time last year you couldn't have imagined that your freshman would be coming to a close so quickly!!!
      Congratulations on a wonderful freshman year at TU! And thank you again for being such a patient person and dealing with my million questions!!!!
      Will you be in White Hall next year??? Or will you be moving dorms!?
      If you'll be in White Hall... I'm going to bring you some homemade gravy (sauce) (I say gravy always have!!!) and macaroni!
      And nobody makes it better!!!! At least I've been told! (I'm lying. It is really good!!!!! I guarantee you'll never taste gravy like it!! Sorry I mean sauce like it!!!)
      I can see it now! I'll be supplying the 3rd floor of White Hall with gravy and macaroni!!! But I cook like I'm cooking for an army anyway!!!
      So where ever you are! I may try and find you! With some amazing italiano!!!
      Have a wonderful summer!! Enjoy it! And most of all, enjoy your time with your family.
      Thank you for your help and answering my pain in the butt a billion questions!!!

    • @AndreasLair
      @AndreasLair  7 років тому +1

      Retail therapy is always fun. Also, I'm sure your sons girlfriends will very much enjoy the decor you buy for them lol. As for work, I didn't have a job this first year, but there are many food places on campus that he could potentially apply to. I'm not really sure if waiting until he's on campus or applying before he moves in is better, but I knew a few people who looked for/applied for jobs nearby once they got here. Also, he'll be scheduling for classes during orientation this summer.
      Yes! freshman year went by so fast I can't believe it. I feel like I just moved in. Unfortunately, I will not be in White Hall next year. I'll be moving across campus to Morgan Hall North if you want to find me there so that I can try your gravy and macaroni lol. I'm sure it's amazing! Thanks for your questions. I enjoy answering them :)

      Andrea Leoni I have no clue if you'll see this or not, but I have the chance to live in either Whitehall or 1300 and I'll be going to Fox school of business. Which residence hall is better?

    • @AndreasLair
      @AndreasLair  7 років тому +1

      I know there is a business LLC in Morgan, but since that wasn't one of your options then I don't think it really matters. Obviously, I lived in White so I'm slightly biased towards that because I had a great experience there and thought it was a very welcoming and social atmosphere. It is a further walk to classes whereas if you lived in 1300 it'd be closer. Also, I've never been in 1300 so I don't have much to say about that. I know people who lived there this past year and they all seem to love it too!!

    hi, I have a few questions: would you say temple offers the traditional college experience? are all the buildings really spaced out? and would you say temple is geographically and racially diverse ?

    • @tr8529
      @tr8529 7 років тому +1

      xx I would say being very familiar with the area, that YES... it is VERY racially diverse. It's like a big melting pot, and nobody cares about race, religion, color, creed, etc...
      and based on friends who's kids recently graduated and myself asking Andrea questions in the last few months!!! I would say yes, it absolutely offers the traditional college experience. Because I wanted my son to have that, and he wouldn't be going to a school that did not offer the full college experience!!!

    • @tr8529
      @tr8529 7 років тому +1

      xx but that's of course my opinion. However having grown up there in Philly, and having many friends who's kids will be entering temple in the fall, we all agree that our kids will be getting the complete college experience, along with a great education...
      I wouldn't be going into crazy debt for anything less!!!!! Lol!!! You'll love it!!! (If it's the university you committed to! Or are thinking of)

    • @AndreasLair
      @AndreasLair  7 років тому +2

      I totally agree with what Tina had to say. I think Temple is a great school because you get the traditional college experience plus the city is only a few subway stops away. The buildings aren't super spaced out, but from one end of campus to the other is about a 10 minute walk/ half a mile long. The only reason why I say that I leave my residence hall half a hour before class is because White Hall is at the very edge of campus and probably the furthest res hall from classes. Temple is a huge melting pot. There are so many foreign exchange students, and so many clubs and orgs where people of a particular race/religion/etc. join together and support each other. From personal experience, I'm aware that the Filipino community on campus is very strong which I think is really great. A majority of the students I met are either from NJ or PA, but I also made friends from Arkansas, California, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. Basically, there are people coming from all over with a variety of backgrounds and meeting and befriending all of these different types of people really changes your perspective.

      I don't really any knowledge concerning international students, but doing more research on Temple's website might help. I do know that the graduating class of 2017 came from 86 countries according to a tweet from Temple's official twitter and that seems pretty large to me.

    • @AndreasLair
      @AndreasLair  7 років тому +4

      They are just crazy. Suburban squirrels usually run away from you if you walk towards them, but North Philly squirrels are quite the opposite. They don't bite or anything. They just pop out of nowhere (usually trash cans) and they aren't afraid to get super close to you...which freaks me out.
