Roman emperor Adrian once traveled through all the provinces of Rome, getting learned their ways of life. Now his namesake Adrian gives us a similar experience with all the provinces' ways of music.
Not to burst your bubble or anything (why do I even care this is a 2 year old comment), but I think the emperor you're referring to is Hadrian, as in the namesake of Hadrian's Wall in Britain.
@@nathancarroll4954 His name was written as "Hadrian" or "Hadrianus" but it was pronounced "Adrian" or "Adrianus", the H was silent. The modern "Adrian" in post Latin languages came from the Latin "Hadrian" anyway. Another example is "Julius", it was written as such in Latin but it was pronounced "Iulius". For example, the city of "Hadrianopolis" (modern Edirne), named after the same Emperor Hadrian, is called "Adrianople" in English as its pronunciation evolved over time from hadrianopolis to adrianopolis- which is where its turkic name "Edirne" comes from.

I love this music. It's kind of melancholic and this us my kind of being happy. I lit some candles, looked and listened, shed some tears and was entirely happy.
"von" just means "from" or "of". Adrian from the brick-layer/tiler. Means Adrian's ancestor, when last names were given out, likely worked in construction. So it'd be something more like... Adrianus ex Murario... though I'm worried I've made a mistake there.
Probably a guy from one of the Germanic Tribes, whose name was Latinized. Whose cunning play of the musical instruments was such that the Romans asked him to come to see Rome and work music for her. And oh how he surpassed their expectations!
Imagine being a Saxon child, born in post Roman Britain. Your earliest memories are of exploring and seeing these massive structures, and your imagination is running full throttle on what human or being built such humongous creations.
Arminius was born in what is today known as Germany as the child of a tribe leader. He was brought to Rome as hostage. He grew up in the Roman empire under the house of a noble, he became a member of the Roman military and officer even. However when Arminius returned to Germania he actually switched sides and caused one of the most devastating Roman defeats as he managed to get most of the Tribes to fight the Roman army advancing into enemy teritory. I guess not everyone was so much in to the Romans and their lifestyle I would say a lot of them understood what the Roman architecture meant. Domination. Superiority. Submission of other cultures. This is something thats been probably somewhat common as well. Maybe even more often than any admiration. Many despised the Romans and also their Empire.
@@JJaqn05 Many were glad that the Empire fell as it had long ceased being an effective state and constantly consumed lives, material, and money in civil wars that most of the empire couldn’t care less about. However there was a longing for the other things it had brought such as the architecture, administration, and protection among other things. Most hated what the empire currently was and missed what it had been at its best. A lot was truly lost, but being perfectly honest plenty of what was seen as lost happened before or after the fall of the West, hardly during its very anti-climactic end.

This is excellent, makes me think of the old republic under Caesar. I think we need more Roman music and more Roman culture in the world today. No civilization in history has ever been able to match the glory and prestige of Rome.
The Islamic Empire (and all the empires that make up this) arose and brought progress, probably the reason that accelerated the transition from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance in Europe, but it must be said that Islamic civilization also benefited from Rome and Greece, but after as in a relay, however, it passed the baton to Europe in the Renaissance and now it is not in good shape.
@@AverageAlien You can't even compare them, The english empire was a colonial empire, in Europe the english had nothing. They literally fought against tribes with bows and arrows, while they had guns. And also in the Seven Years war or Napoleonic wars the English, militarily speaking, they did almost nothing. Probably if they weren't on their island Napoleon would have conquered them. And then you can't even say that it was more influential, Rome literally creates Europe. The architecture, alphabet, engineering, they literally create cities like London or Paris!
@@AverageAlien the British empire was "influential" only for the countries that it conquered, the whole western world wasn't particularly influenced by it except for the fact that the English language is considered the lingua franca, the United States had more influence on the modern world than the British empire ever had. Also if by influence you mean scientific discoveries then I could also say that the modern world was heavily influenced by the Germans and the Italians since a lot of important scientists of the '800 and '900 were either Italian or German. The Roman Empire is the basis for basically everything in the western world, except for the legal code used in anglo saxon countries, it left a bigger impact on the cultures and history of the western world, it even lasted more then the British empire
Hey Adrian. I'm writing a fantasy novel and just wanted to say that your music is absolutely perfect as a background for my writing sessions. It's relaxing, yet intense. It's calm, yet it evokes some caution. And the best thing is it does not distract me from my arduous task at hand. I genuinely feel like I'm a worse writer whenever I don't have your music playing in the background, so THANK YOU for this!
Your music always helps inspire my drawings. Mediterranean themed ones all the more. I can already feel the works this song will help me create! Thank you once again.
Amazing place to be in the ancient world. Vibrant and full of technological wonders that had been lost after the collapse of the Empire. Low-class peasants living in vast apartment and shared-housing, while the middle-class and upper-class peasants were living in their own villas or buildings within cities. Had the same issues as any other major population centre; slums, violence, disease. But, even with all that, it was still a sight to behold. Vast wooden structures among the lower-class or servants. Villas of concrete and stone among the middle and upper class. Nothing like the dull colours often portrayed in films and books, but vibrant in various shades of colour for the materials, and the art depicted on and within buildings.
I've been hearing the music of Adrian for many years now. Since college. This is one of my favorite pieces, though. It really transports me to a better dimension, where there's more space, more creativity, more inner peace. You proportion us travels in marvelous ways! Thanks.
So my name is basically an homage to Hadrian and his wall that held back the Picts, which is pretty ironic since I make so much music honouring the ancient Celts. xD
My soul is divided. Quite fitting since I'm from Switzerland, we were right at the border of the Roman empire. Subjugated Celts looking across the Rhine, one eye towards Roman civilization, the other towards the wild northern forests.
I think my personal favorite daydream about Rome is how it was more or less made for durability and resiliency. Concrete we’re still trying to truly mimic that was made stronger with age instead of weaker, holding together buildings made of stone and brick. How many generations walked down a street and it was the exact same way as their great grandparents saw at the same age, with a century between them. We so often call new and different the magical one but I seriously find that to be just as magical. Real, tangible heritage used everyday just beside innovation and change. Makes it that people themselves are the obvious change instead of their surroundings and things.
I heard somewhere that, during the high middle ages (~1300s), people sometimes deconstructed buildings built during the height of the roman empire (~200s) for their easy-to-access stonework. The fascinating thing is that the mortar used to hold these roman buildings together was so slow-setting that even during the high middle ages, the mortar flowed and had the same consistency as newly produced medieval mortar, and so was often reused. I'm not sure if this is actually true, though the idea of the romans using mortar that outlasted their empire seems fascinating.
This song takes me back to the ancient time of Rome...And it makes me wonder how my _Roman ancestors dealt with the Justinian Plague_ from the early AD years...
Adrian, you've really outdone yourself. This is so ancient and soothing. I wondered what 'Roman music' would sound like, and it is this. Excellent work, thank you so much.
Walkin by her side .... feeling nothing else but the air in our bodies.... looking around us... following only one path.... i can see her smiling at me... i reach for her hand..... we keep walking, we gear nothing but the sounds of our steps, of our breaths... and around us nothing else only the sounds of this MASTERPIECE ❤ Now you close your eyes and dream!

Hopefully without the crazy gladiator battles, the daily killings of prisoners through manslaughter and bestial savagery, or the forced political advances into most of the European, Mediterranean, Asia, and African lands and subjugation or killings of their peoples. They were smart about their political leaders, but even that could get messy quickly, especially after the reign of Caesar, Tiberius, and Octavius.

The is proven that musical instruments not only will mesmerised us, but rather we could create or visualising as the musical playing in the background. ♡
Thanks for this great composure. I have listened to it this evening as I was exercising in my garage while reading Edward Gibbon’s classic “The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.” It was a perfect companion.
This resonates with me on a totally different level. We Romanians, descendents of Rome and Dacia, abandoned by our brothers and sisters to fend for ourselves, with only a hint of a memory of how glorious the Eternal City was. The theatres, cities and towns degrading under barbarian assaults, while we fled to the thick forrests, deep gorges and steep peaks of the Carpathians, ready to take back our lands when our enemies were weakest. Our elders told the stories of our great ancestors Trajan and Decebalus, and legends of the shining Constantinople (Țarigrad), our music sad and contemplating, our language being the treasure chest of countless memories...
This would a good ambient theme of Rome if there was an open world game set in the Roman republic or empire. Entering the surrounding areas of the capital city itself would be a good way to introduce this music to the player 🦅 🏙
Rome is generally my least favourite ancient civilisation (don't get me wrong, I like all ancient history, it's just the one I find least interesting), but this is just ethereal beauty embodied. The entire piece just instils this feeling of utter, immense, ancient spectacle. Bravo, Adrian.
That's because of the cultural sock when encountering them because much of Europe and their colonies had got some roman culture+some native one so when we encounter the pure ancient culture they are just so novel, new, different, from Rome you arleady know what to expect.

Their cultures did somewhat differ actually. Calling the Romans a copy of the Greeks is a naive perspective.

Man you gotta love seeing a 20 minute piece from Adrian being uploaded and realising you have a whole journey ahead of you listening to it
"My name is Adrianus Vonimus Zieglerius, Commander of the instruments of the North, General of the Musical Legions."
😂
Father to a murdered symphony, husband to a murdered Philarmonic Orchestra, and I will have my vengeance in this life or the next!
Adrianus, are you the cousin of Biggus Dickus?

The saxons actually believed giants built them truly shows how much history we lost when Rome fell
@@almighty5839 Didn't lose much. Old Rome was nothing like it's old self. I'm sure many were glad Rome fell

Adrian, we need a full album of this. love the Hellenic culture and even more so its mix with the Roman Empire and its history
@ItzSkylerUwU. YT The early Romans were Hellenic
@@thetowerfantasymusic I'm not sure about agreeing with you but for sure Romans did like the Greek culture and saw Greeks as superior beings to them. Therefore they did "imitate" their architecture. This is excellent, makes me think of the old republic under Caesar. I think we need more Roman music and more Roman culture in the world today. No civilization in history has ever been able to match the glory and prestige of Rome.
The british empire was larger and more influential, but to be fair it would of never existed if it wasn't for the Roman empire
@@jacopocrisalli2753 The british empire created the modern world. If it wasn't for us you would be nothing

Thanks.
Hadrian von Ziegler strikes again!
That's so perfect -- "Ziegel" is German for "brick", so it's "Hadrian of Bricker"!
So my name is basically an homage to Hadrian and his wall that held back the Picts, which is pretty ironic since I make so much music honouring the ancient Celts. xD
This just can't be a coincidence.
My soul is divided. Quite fitting since I'm from Switzerland, we were right at the border of the Roman empire. Subjugated Celts looking across the Rhine, one eye towards Roman civilization, the other towards the wild northern forests.
No matter how hard you try to deny your Celtic heart: the wild northern forests will always look back at you.
You get it.
All these are so enjoyable, cant wait for some more
This song takes me back to the ancient time of Rome...And it makes me wonder how my _Roman ancestors dealt with the Justinian Plague_ from the early AD years...
