Kazakhstani here, I am actually surprised that Kazakhstan made it to the list of 'worst' countries by liberal standards. So this actually means we are doing quite well, no wonder, that I am happy to live here. Still can't understand how Aron is not seeing the obvious bias in these 'bEsT COunTrIEs tO LiVe iN' lists made by Europeans to attract young workforce from 'not-so-good' countries (again by their own carefully designed materialistic capitalistic criteria) because their birth rates are plummeting and there is not enough youth to support the economy and lonely elders filling up their nursing homes.

Reminds me of my past when I used to say little knowledge makes a man athiest, until I realized that argument for Islam and argument for God are two separate things. Daniel should check out this politic activist group called the threeHijabis. They are promoting becoming like the wife of Lut عليه السلام. Why has the western Sunni Muslims community allowed women to represent them? The same pattern of spreading blm and lgbt is found among them. They cannot pass the trials of the disbelievers and should not be allowed to form these political activists groups. They do more harm than good.

I realised just from the opening speeches only - Daniel was focused on getting out the message that atheism pushes this narrative of a bubble where only your happiness matters. However, on the other hand, Aron was focused on insulting religions, religious people (including prominent religious scientists), and God while making his points. It ended up as the insults taking up most of the time so his point was lost in it.
The vast majority of Aron’s statements had nothing insulting in them. In fact, he only "insulted" religion twice in this whole debate, and even that’s debatable, because under certain conditions what he said was just calling it what it would be under certain conditions.
Daniel, you got him especially at the end! I have to say that he is a smart man who knows how to talk (however, he is twisting the questions - you have stayed on the right track very well!). His existential sense is something that he will not get because it is not the eyes that are blind...but the heart!

Okay, as an Atheist, I'll admit that Aron wasn't entirely right about that but I think that he was quite close. I think that the actual law was that if you're a muslim there, you're legally prohibited from leaving the religion. So the point he was trying to make still stands. There really isn't any freedom of religion there. As far as middle eastern countries go, the UAE isn't quite as extreme in it's approach to religious law but in other countries like Saudi Arabia, all citizens ARE required to be muslim.

Aron also had to repeat himself in front of David several times, but that kind of thing is normal when 2 people have completely different worldviews. Large part of it is social cohesion. Qatar and Saudi Arabia both have a common ethnoreligious identity to unite people behind and make them feel more connected. Meanwhile, due to mass immigration, European countries don’t have that same connection anymore, so there is much less of a brotherhood sense between people. It's not really a shock that places that are "better to live" (defined as having wealth, technology, medicine, ect.) have less religion (as well as being more liberal). Atheism and liberalism can only survive in wealthy and better off places. Countries that are more focused on survival have more reliance on tradition and religion. They have way less ability to indulge in destructive behaviors that will get them wiped out. The fact that destructive beliefs and behaviors can survive better in "better off places" doesn't mean these destructive behaviors and beliefs are good, obviously.
Exactly. Even these countries were built on traditional religious foundations. It wasn't until they were secure and actively colonizing other nations that they started turning away from traditional religious values. One example is the Black family unit which was in better shape during segregation. That's not because desegregation ruined Black families. That is because the spread of Liberalism, Secularism and Atheism weren't as widespread back then. Segregation did not do as much harm to Black American values as these ideologies have and the destruction of personal, family and community values is worse for ppl than even being oppressed. One word of advice. Having been doing dawah at the street level for many years, I've learned that humans in a group are not all alike. So even amongst atheists, they're not all the same, even if they agree on the fundamentals of their belief system. This guy converses not at an academic level but at the popular level. Your arguments about morality, the dystopian future under atheism etc. are all arguments that a proper academic and thinker would address in a systematic way. However, for this kind of debate with a popular figure (I mean populistic, not famous), it is more important to study the public writings and presentations of the interlocutor to pick up on the subtle differences in his beliefs compared to the standard set of atheist beliefs. That helps corner the person because their best arguments are then countered rather than subjecting them to the standard set of arguments which they can weasel out of due to these finer points.

It is true. The atheism "arguments" are incredibly low effort and require the least amount of effort. Compiling lists, making ad hominem attacks (which DH never replied in kind btw) and populist statements is not sophisticated at all. I've seen western debaters in my youth at university undergrad level with more cogency than this.

Overall a good debate. I don't know if Daniel will read my comment but I have a few suggestions (which may be beneficial): 1) A like for like comparison between countries with similar GDP or HDI might be useful in showing the flaws with Aron's googled lists. I really liked the part where you mentioned that they're all white European. He was cornered. 2) I think eating bugs and living in pods part distracts from the main point which is atheistism is destroying community. 3) Science is constantly changing and fatally incorrect at times. For example, before the developement of germ theory and hand hygiene, science did not think humans as vectors for diseases. Ignaz seimelweis noted dirty hands were causing deaths of hundreds of women through infection. They made fun of him and drove him to insanity until he was eventually proven to be correct. Whereas, in islam we have regular ablutaions and the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) would wash his hands regularly after defined tasks or coming home. We cannot wait for science to catch up to Islam, it'll lead to a lot of suffering. 4) Scientific truths and enough conviction to follow them are 2 separate things. For example, alcohol is has very few benefits and many harms (both individual and societal harms) proven by science, yet all the liberal countries on Aron's list advocate drinking alcohol. If there are scientific truths which prove somethings evidently, the only choice you have is to either enforce them (and ban alcohol i.e. freedom of choice) or keep them on the side (and just say alcohol is bad but let all the evil consequences of free choice occur). There is a major conflict between science and governance and these points can easily be made to show families should be presevered and marriages are the cornerstone of civilisation. I hope these points help for future debates inshallah.
You are mostly correct in what you say however I'd suggest western countries don't necessarily promote drinking alcohol. They just didn't do enough to dissuade. There has always been age restrictions and in England the minimum age is 18. You are right about science not always being consistent. Look at the tobacco studies showing smoking to be safe then a few years later totally debunked. Also, the vaccines are heavily promoted due to profit potential but compared to unvaccinated people, the vaccinated don't fare better.

I realised just from the opening speeches only -
Daniel was focused on getting out the message that atheism pushes this narrative of a bubble where only your happiness matters.
However, on the other hand, Aron was focused on insulting religions, religious people (including prominent religious scientists), and God while making his points. It ended up as the insults taking up most of the time so his point was lost in it.
The vast majority of Aron’s statements had nothing insulting in them. In fact, he only "insulted" religion twice in this whole debate, and even that’s debatable, because under certain conditions what he said was just calling it what it would be under certain conditions.
Daniel, you got him especially at the end! I have to say that he is a smart man who knows how to talk (however, he is twisting the questions - you have stayed on the right track very well!). I think that the actual law was that if you're a muslim there, you're legally prohibited from leaving the religion. So the point he was trying to make still stands. There really isn't any freedom of religion there. As far as middle eastern countries go, the UAE isn't quite as extreme in it's approach to religious law but in other countries like Saudi Arabia, all citizens ARE required to be muslim.

Large part of it is social cohesion. Qatar and Saudi Arabia both have a common ethnoreligious identity to unite people behind and make them feel more connected. Meanwhile, due to mass immigration, European countries don’t have that same connection anymore, so there is much less of a brotherhood sense between people. That’s why a lot of the mass shootings like at Christchurch and Buffalo have a nationalist twist, because people no longer see their countrymen as friends and instead as competitors and enemies.

It's not really a shock that places that are "better to live" (defined as having wealth, technology, medicine, ect.) have less religion (as well as being more liberal). Atheism and liberalism can only survive in wealthy and better off places. Countries that are more focused on survival have more reliance on tradition and religion. They have way less ability to indulge in destructive behaviors that will get them wiped out. The fact that destructive beliefs and behaviors can survive better in "better off places" doesn't mean these destructive behaviors and beliefs are good, obviously.
Exactly. Even these countries were built on traditional religious foundations. It wasn't until they were secure and actively colonizing other nations that they started turning away from traditional religious values.
One example is the Black family unit which was in better shape during segregation. That's not because desegregation ruined Black families. That is because the spread of Liberalism, Secularism and Atheism weren't as widespread back then. Segregation did not do as much harm to Black American values as these ideologies have and the destruction of personal, family and community values is worse for ppl than even being oppressed.
When you are oppressed the oppressor does bad things to you. When you are Liberal, Secular and Atheist you do bad things to yourself.

One word of advice. Having been doing dawah at the street level for many years, I've learned that humans in a group are not all alike. So even amongst atheists, they're not all the same, even if they agree on the fundamentals of their belief system. This guy converses not at an academic level but at the popular level. Your arguments about morality, the dystopian future under atheism etc. are all arguments that a proper academic and thinker would address in a systematic way. However, for this kind of debate with a popular figure (I mean populistic, not famous), it is more important to study the public writings and presentations of the interlocutor to pick up on the subtle differences in his beliefs compared to the standard set of atheist beliefs. That helps corner the person because their best arguments are then countered rather than subjecting them to the standard set of arguments which they can weasel out of due to these finer points.

It is true. The atheism "arguments" are incredibly low effort and require the least amount of effort. Compiling lists, making ad hominem attacks (which DH never replied in kind btw) and populist statements is not sophisticated at all. I've seen western debaters in my youth at university undergrad level with more cogency than this.

Little did the atheist know, Daniel basically demolished his entire opening with just Daniel’s opening, the foundation of atheism, how it’s being practiced and the effects of the atheism.
Literally everything he wanted to say has been refuted already.
All he did was paint a dystopian picture of his ideal world dominated by a brutal Islamic theocracy. Trust me. That convinces nobody that Islam has any value beyond being an excuse to pursue brutal authoritarian regimes.
Overall a good debate. I don't know if Daniel will read my comment but I have a few suggestions (which may be beneficial):
1) A like for like comparison between countries with similar GDP or HDI might be useful in showing the flaws with Aron's googled lists. I really liked the part where you mentioned that they're all white European. He was cornered.
2) I think eating bugs and living in pods part distracts from the main point which is atheistism is destroying community.
3) Science is constantly changing and fatally incorrect at times. For example, before the developement of germ theory and hand hygiene, science did not think humans as vectors for diseases. Ignaz seimelweis noted dirty hands were causing deaths of hundreds of women through infection. They made fun of him and drove him to insanity until he was eventually proven to be correct. Whereas, in islam we have regular ablutaions and the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) would wash his hands regularly after defined tasks or coming home. We cannot wait for science to catch up to Islam, it'll lead to a lot of suffering.
4) Scientific truths and enough conviction to follow them are 2 separate things. For example, alcohol is has very few benefits and many harms (both individual and societal harms) proven by science, yet all the liberal countries on Aron's list advocate drinking alcohol. If there are scientific truths which prove somethings evidently, the only choice you have is to either enforce them (and ban alcohol i.e. freedom of choice) or keep them on the side (and just say alcohol is bad but let all the evil consequences of free choice occur). There is a major conflict between science and governance and these points can easily be made to show families should be presevered and marriages are the cornerstone of civilisation.

You are mostly correct in what you say however I'd suggest western countries don't necessarily promote drinking alcohol. They just didn't do enough to dissuade. There has always been age restrictions and in England the minimum age is 18.
You are right about science not always being consistent. Look at the tobacco studies showing smoking to be safe then a few years later totally debunked. Also, the vaccines are heavily promoted due to profit potential but compared to unvaccinated people, the vaccinated don't fare better.
