The driver needs to see the camera footage along with all the other drivers no matter the rig they drive at either next safety session or training session to show the incident. And then emphasize the point to all driver's that this could have been any one of them. Situatiional awareness is prudent.
Seen that happen on several occasions. The ground was getting pretty firm here in Western/ upstate NY until the rain on Monday and today. That's just a bad luck situation with soft ground. That's a pretty long tractor and guessing a 48ft trailer with the axles all the way in the back. Sometimes you just can't swing wide enough. Minimal damage and no one was hurt. It's a big win in my book!
You have to be laid back or your gonna go insane . True story. I once had a driver crack a oil filter housing on a 3406E , didn't say anything, ran it away from the yard for 2 months OTR, wrecked it, still didn't tell anyone, burned up a spindle from cracked hub on steer 300 miles later ( he had to call in for that) I personally drove 1100 miles to shop in KY to inspect truck after mechanic called. Truck was 7 gallons low on oil, broken shocks front and rear on right side, busted fuel tank strap on right side. ..... and he blamed Me. Haha. Patched truck, sent it home to Texas where 3 injectors failed. You guessed it, lack of oil toasted a new 3406E Cat cam bearings, and injectors. Total damage, $38k. Had health issues shortly after. Lost everything. Lesson learned, inspect trucks as often as possible, if a driver has a problem with it, JB is hiring steering wheel holders. 😎 Check those welds often, also, right rear inside drives, check for cracks in wheels.
Someone forgot to slide their tandems or forgot they had a trailer all together. Happens to the best of them. Thank God it stayed up and no one got hurt. You're an amazing boss. That's how you handle a bad situation. In "how to make friends and influence people" it says that no one needs to be berated for mistakes. Instead reward those for doing well and others will strive to do better. I have now seen that in action with you. I can guarantee that driver will think so highly of you and work hard for you for years to come.
It’s not if .... it’s just a matter of when ..... it’s a constant job of preparing yourself mentally for this tuff situations ..... then when they do happen it’s not a blowup !!!
Glad to see how you as a boss/owner reacted to the situation. I run a tanker in the L.A. area. I am local but run 50K a year and a ton of tight places. My boss reminded me I have had zero incidents in the 2.5 years I have been with them, I must be good. I said I am lucky and over due. It’s hard to run the miles in tight areas and not have a whoops from time to time.
Measure 10x cut once. I know mistakes happen in the business, however the smaller ones can be prevented. Justin is as cool as they come. Great attitude and understanding of the situations. Cheers Justin
My son and I actually had a similar situation last week. We got the right side trailer down in the ditch kind of like your situation but not as bad. But her belly boxes and landing gear set on the ground. It lifted the left side drives completely off the ground so we had absolutely no traction. Luckily the guy with the Ford F3 50 was driving by and had 2 tow straps in the back of his truck. He hooked to the back of the trailer and was Able to pull us back just enough to get the trailer to roll back up onto the road, that took the weight off of the landing gear and belly boxes and allowed our drive tires to get traction again.
Peerless trailers are like tanks. I pulled one for years and your right there's really no place to pull or lift from. The only spots are were the steel plates come out the back. You can drill holes in it to place hooks. Good luck at this time of the year. Someone said to slide the tandems, but being loaded , most of the time they dont slide.
Justin Good morning What happen ? The driver has enough space to make the turn , the wet Road was the cause ? Good the trailer is not damaged , need to check underneath to see if the crossmembers are not bend. Regards 15 April 2021
Everybody did a very nice job on that trailer recovery. From the boss to the towing company and to the driver of the truck. everybody did an awesome job
Justin, I commend you for your patience and understanding in matters like this. It’s ok for you to be concerned and frustrated but you handle it as a boss and an owner with great care. We as professional drivers never intend to put our equipment or anyone in jeopardy but sometimes things happen. Really impressed with your character and leadership!! Great job and great video reminding all of us to be safe!
Thanks for posting this. After getting the floor info from your Titan posting, I am looking at a used Peerless. Those wrecker guys were making me a little nervous. Take care.
This is awesome to see, being that you guys are running in my old stomping grounds. I recognized that wrecker from Metal Recovery instantly. Glad to see you guys got it recovered!

That was a very good video. I breathed a sigh of relief when the trailer was getting unloaded and it’s not even my trailer… LOL. Thanks for sharing looking forward to the next one.
The way u stay calm is legendary.. I call my boss and tell him ill need a tire by the end of the week and he flipped shit on me in front of my wife... I ain't trynna tell him about the manifold leak lol
The Railroad and Fire Rescue industries use (air jacks) air bags to lift so one can support extremely heavy loads on just 120lbs of compressed air; air jacks can have a large foot print decreasing the likelihood of damage to high tensile and light weight equipment like your trailer - best thing no hooks. Light and easy to use but takes a lot of dunnage for cribbing (sm support truck?) .... just a thought
Great save by the tow operator! Pink and yellow colors on that tow truck , you don’t see that everyday. The flexibility of that trailer is astonishing. Sometimes as a driver, you have a bad day and it makes you feel terrible. Luckily, that driver did not try to maneuver and tip the trailer on its side. Happy ending Justin for everyone concerned. Doug.
Looks like one of my old trucks. I've picked those trailers up at the factory, definitely lucky. If it broke rivets, check the sides inside and out after a couple of loads for cracking near busted rivets. You can count on floor support being damaged ( cracked welds ) put that trailer under a heavy inspection schedule for a few months. Doing power only in the past, I'm kinda like Farmers, I've seen it all. Haha
Sorry this happened....kind of a rookie mistake. Easy for me to say but I haven't driven 18 wheel in 10 years. It's a true testament to the quality of the trailers construction and I agree with you Justin that it's a great marketing video. Its also a testament to what a quality person you are to handle it with your calm demeanor. I would have not gotten high marks for my actions if I had to deal with a situation like this. Thanks for sharing with us. Stay safe.
When that wrecker dropped his steers in the grass I was uh oh bout to be Monday morning feeling for someone else lol glad to see it all worked out Justin things happen that’s just a trucking right!!!
Whats up Justin, I got a 45' peerless same color and had my axles back. Samething happened to me. Just when I turned into nursery forgot I had a trailer and was loaded gross 90k of dyed mulch. Peerless in my book are really forgiving when this happens. Tow company came out, got it out and trailer is fine. Boss is like you, no need to yell or cuss. We talked about it, solution was found and we moved on. He's like "no need to beat a dead horse", lets move on. Love peerless..
We would park the wrecker to the left of the trailer a little forward, with a strap diagonally acros the roof to the right rear corner to a winch, pulling trailer up out of hole and forwards at the same time
The Tow operator in the dark jacket did a great job, that wrecker looks to be a 30 to 35 ton max and that had to be stressing it out. The dude in the dirty yellow jacket did a great job smoking multiple cigarettes in rapid succession. Often when someone makes a bad mistake they learn to think a lot harder about choices and do well there after. You really do not know for sure the rivets popped when he did this or if they had popped before do you? I would think the trailer probably has one pop every so often just from stretching under load. Glad everyone was safe. Stay safe and healthy Sir.
One more question, I noticed in some of your trailers you run a strap down the middle, and I seen it on a hopper trailer. Can you give me more info as to why. Is that for the tarp?? Thx
What's nice about 8 axle walking floor's that ditch would not been a problem if you cut it short, plus you're trailer tracks really nice on the tight turns being able to lift you're last and two front axles, only bad thing is keeping up with tire repair and replacement on 32 tire's 🤔
